  1. Artist: Pan Psychic Title: We Are Not Who We Are Label: Sun Station Records Date: January, 2008 1 We Are Not Who We Are (8:42) 2. Bioware (6:27) 3. Vishnu Avatars (8:57) 4. Night Vision (8:42) 5. In Suspend (7:05) 6. Moscow (6:04) 7. Pan Psychic & Shytan - Picnic On A Roadside (6:34) 8. Pan Psychic & Shytan - Ozone Cloud (6:02) 9. The Last Reality (5:55) 10. Moscow (Remix) (6:57) 11. Zemliane - Trava U Doma (Pan Psychic Remix) (5:20) I love free stuff. Really? Just...right up your dress there? I used to think that you get what you pay for, but Ektoplazm has shattered that myth. That site offers so many gold nuggets for the price of belly button lint that it has become dare I say invaluable. I don't always have the dough I want to spend on CDs so he has become a daily stop along my internet travels. This is the debut of Pan Psychic, but really more of a best of their tracks from 2002 - 2007. Never heard of them except for In Suspend which was on the glorious Human Hyperactivation back in the early days of new school goa trance. They hold the distinction of being the first trance act outta St. Petersburg and I don't mean the one in Florida. The Russian one has standards. Unfortunately this also appears to be their last release. They either decided to pack it in or Putin heard them talking about gay sex. There is something for everyone here from acidic goa trance to the darky darky stuff. Not only that, but they switch styles in the same track. Bioware is soaked with delicious detail and has a little bit of darkpsy and twilight. The title track and In Suspend are quality goa tracks while Ozone Cloud has a drum n bass feel. The Last Reality is a slow churning downtempo piece. Now I'm not gonna piss on your leg and tell you they are all stellar tracks because they're not (please keep your Russian folk music outta my psy thank you). But this project does showcase their versatility. Also it came at a time where goa wasn't released with the frequency that it is today, so the excitement was there 5 years ago. Still it's worth a listen. So what are you waiting for? Scrape all of that belly button lint outta there and head over to Ektoplazm. Free at Ektoplazm Mdk
  2. Artist: Various Title: Gaia 10 Label: Gaia Tontrager Date: 1996 1. Evolution - Warriors of Light 2. X-Dream - Psychoactivity 3. Neuwerk - Psylo 31 4. Morphem - My Plan 5. Electirc Universe - Orange Night 6. Hara Gobi - 303 Gold 7. Star Sound Orchestra - I.C.P. 8. The Pollinator - Parent Plant III 9. Planet B.E.N. - Screw Driver 10. After Sunset - Oriental Fantasy This label was started by Andreas Roll (half of Evolution), but went belly up in 2001. Somehow I came across this and noticed right away how putrid the cover was. Like a suspicious girl searching your browser history...I had to find out what was in there. "Aw, hell no! Now who da f*k is dat b*tch?" Boston strong? Try hood rat skrong. Warriors of Light- Good layers and sharp leads. Great way to open. Psychoactivity- Quintessential goa that doesn't overpower, but delivers a kill shot right to the ears. Psylo 31- The name just screams German techno, but it's a wicked little surprise that brings the two genres together. My Plan- If his plan was to create a track with more bite than an Australian shark then he succeeded. Orange Night- Remember when Boris made awesome goa trance? Wait...the same guy that unleashed Higher Modes? Of course I don't remember I was in my twenties and who the f*ck remembers that? 303 Gold- This compilation is sweet! Wonder where the speed bumps are? Ah, there it is. More like...303 pewter. I.C.P.- Never been a big fan of this project and this does nothing to change that. Parent Plant III- This had some nice bounce to it, but I would've liked it a lot more without all the annoying whispering. Wanna whisper? Go to the library. Screw Driver- Even without stacks of melody this is head nodding goa trance. Oriental Fantasies- Go nuts Asian business man. I don't get it. Flying under the radar, there are some good goa tracks here and the flow is very nice. Recommended. Mdk
  3. Artist: Various Title: MDM 23 Label: Energy StaR Records Date: May, 1997 1. Total Eclipse - Le Lotus Bleu (remix) 2. Koxbox - Stratosfearless 3. Transwave - Robostyx 4. Indoor - Camel 5. Aeternum - Ensanity 6. Miranda - Labyrinth 7. Koxbox - Fuel On 8. Astral Projection - Maian Dream 9. Orion - Liquid MASSIVE. DANCE. MUSIC. *MUSIC...MUSIC...* You have to say it like you're at a monster truck show to appreciate that joke. Another compilation loaded with some of the best names in old school goa trance. But unless you shit hundred dollar bills you probably ain't picking this one up. What's remarkable about this release (besides the price) is that for some of the artists it isn't the same tracks copy pasted from other compilations. Not Free Lemonade from Total Eclipse, not Rezwalker or Cycles of Life from Transwave, and not Vertigo from Indoor. Nothing wrong with those classics except perhaps overexposure. The tracks that are here aren't weak tea by any stretch. Fuel On and Stratosfearless (which I have only recently come to appreciate) are monster combinations of goa and psy that constantly evolve. Camel was always interesting to me because as the end approaches the melody turns into something uplifting. Astral delivers a track that isn't Mahadeva or Let There Be Light and Liquid closes things out. I come from modest beginnings having been taught the value of money so sh*tting hundred dollar bills ain't gonna happen. And if it happens to you first you should sit next to me and have Taco Bell and then you need to get checked out cause that ain't healthy. It's a sold compilation that I would love to have, but I ain't sifting through your lunch to get it. Mdk
  4. Artist: Omneon Title: Magic Forest EP Label: Timewarp Records Date: November, 2013 1. Magic Forest 2. Psytrance "OH GOD Raoul, magic hands. You've got magic hands. I'm gonna cough up the biggest f*cking hairball just for you big guy." My break from posting reviews was probably as much of a vacation for you as it was for me. But I'm back and all these releases ain't gonna review themselves. Timewarp is at it again with yet another new EP. They are an EP machine! Omneon is Denis Paholkov from Estonia (now you're just making up country names) and he combines full-on and goa with pretty good results. I liked the 1st track the best as the one called psytrance might be a little too full-on for some. Sounds like he's got talent and I look forward to seeing what he can do on future Ep's that I'm sure Timewarp will release. Beatport Mdk
  5. Artist: Somnesia Title: Mystic Moon Label: Gliese 581C Date: April, 2012 01 - Mystic Sun 02 - Encounter 03 - Goa Spirit 04 - Cosmic Gate 05 - Halluminium 06 - Nomad's Land (Original Version) 07 - Beyond The Sky (Extended Version) 08 - Space Liquid 09 - Dusk Till Dawn "I believe that these extra terrestrial vehicles and their crews are visiting this planet from other planets, which are obviously a little more technically advanced than we are here on Earth." Not possible. Christophe Grossel is no stranger to goa trance. As Somnesia, you've heard his tracks like When Kali Meditates (Goa Overdose), Eternal Life (The Omega Point), and Sunlight (Future Architecture). Awesome stuff. Did I mention he is also a member of our little corner of the web? But in a world of what have you done for me lately there hasn't been an album. Until now. Released on Gliese 581C he presents you with his debut. For free. Apparently he used to work for them. Forgive me I'm old, when I worked for someone, I actually had to fight traffic and drive there, fight it out with a grossly overweight co-worker as to who would get the last half eaten creme filled donut (C'mon fatty cut me a break isn't this your third one?), and try to look busy for most of the day. Working for a net label, he probably did all his sh*t with his fuzzy bunny slippers on. Gotta take a sh*t? F*ck it, do it with the door open that chick from marketing with the wonky eye can't see you. Sign of the times I guess. First thing that jumps out is the beautiful cover. A dark blue night with a nebulous cloud drifting across the full moon. Nice looking and it basically tells you what you're gonna get. Mystic Sun- Holy crap if the intro was any longer it would be an ambient track. You don't hear a kick until past the 3 minute mark. Fine by me, because this is storytelling by the light of a campfire. Ominous pads and running synths have me looking skyward. The track has a give and take quality...not giving you everything at once, but parsing it out in measured amounts. If you're not thinking about space when you hear this, then you must already be there. Encounter- Undulating is the perfect word to describe how the opening synth behaves. It twists around you like an anaconda and when it's ready applies the force to crush the life out of you. At almost 10 minutes long it continues to build to an powerful climax that...that could be the most unintentionally erotic thing I have ever written. (I say written, but who the f*ck writes anymore? I wrote a check the other day and it looked like my 3 year old penned it. Shoulda used a crayon.) That lead is constant, never vanishing throughout the whole track. Pretty impressive. Felt like I was riding that...whatever the f*ck it is in the neverending story. Blistering track. Goa Spirit- I don't know why but I thought this said goa spice. Hmmm....goa spice.... She had to have seen her time with the Spice Girls was short. You think Posh is going to put up with sunshine's shower optional policy? And how long will the label tolerate her blowing the budget on weed, hackey-sacks and patchouli? You know who I feel sorry for? C*cksucker spice. Would've broadened the bands appeal and she never gets a shot. Well, other than a money shot. Cheesy. Too much. Made my stomach hurt. Oh, not the track. This was the bagel with cheese I had for breakfast. The track is awesome. Mysterious vibe with leads bundled together like fiber optic cables. Dances as one would if you were walking on hot coals, never lingering in one spot for too long. It builds to a point and then halfway through begins to reorganize. Ever seen a skier tumble down a hill? F*cking garage sale with skis flying this way and that? No matter how hard you try to stop it only makes it worse? Well, it's like that, but in a great way. Intensity increases, layers multiply and at the end you're looking around wondering where the f*ck that came from? Cosmic Gate- Rapid fire dark vibes with shimmering synths bring the feel of space into the living room. Melodies tumble like the particles of a recently exploded star and this would make great driving music. He throws different melodies at you in enticing layers that make this one a delight. Halluminium- Triplets are creepy. Why are we spending so much money trying to find extra-terrestrial life from up above when those freakshows are walking among us? Let me show you how I got there. It's really very simple. Track name sounds like aluminum of course and that makes me think of the foil. After being sidetracked for twenty minutes on how I could make another bagel with cheese, I refocused and thought that putting on the foil is a hockey term for fighting. Which I got from the classic movie Slap Shot. Well, there is a group of triplets in that movie that are a few croutons short of a salad. Total elapsed time...less than a second. I. Need. Help. More of a grower that gathers ammunition as it goes on. It flies on the dark side of the skies with an entertaining style. Nomad's Land (Original Version)- 10 and a half minutes? I used to love the sight of that, but you know I got kids right? Gotta take a sh*t just to get a few minutes to myself. "Lemme alone! Go watch Dora or something!" Whew, dude is working pretty hard to squeeze that one off isn't he? Burger King really needs to clean their restrooms. Running through space with the utmost quickness. Melodies move with jellyfish like quirkiness and then dance like Gregory Hines isn't really dead. Cristophe really puts a track together well balancing out the highs with the bubbling undercurrent of basses. So you take a driving rhythm, layer it with eerie melodies and you've got my daughter crying because she thinks daddy is possessed by the devil. Top notch! Beyond The Sky (Extended Version)- Hmmm....extended. Like c*ck enlargement. Surely I'm not the only one annoyed by the incessant advertising on the side of the page telling me that with this "one weird trick" I can make my dick look like a f*cking python. Why the hell would you want that? Do you know how hard (get it) it would be to buy pants? And I think we are all aware of the danger of the pee hard on. Pitching a tent is no way to go through life, son. As you could've probably guessed this one takes a while to get going. 13 minutes? Minus commercials that's almost an entire episode of How I Met Your Mother. Speaking of your mother, like a frenzied sexual encounter in the backseat of your mom's minivan, the ahem, "magic" happens at the end. But don't miss out on the atmosphere he creates because it's quite good. While not unleashing his inner Ron Jeremy to test your gag reflex he does provide a good show with bubbling basses and smooth melodies for a look at the softer side of goa trance without making gay porn. What? Space Liquid- Never thought I would say we are down to a manageable 9 minutes. A cold and mysterious intro has me thinking about a deserted space ship a la Event Horizon. Analog pads stream across sensors and I think I saw Gary Numan's ghost. As the title says, he makes a very liquid sound and then promptly hops on his Jean Michel Jarre horse before introducing some goa licks. What you thought was a spooky ambient piece drops a beat near 6 minutes. Nice. Dusk Till Dawn- That is all. He recently celebrated a birthday and wound up giving us a present. This would've been presented to him closer to the date if Photobucket wasn't full of b*tches. But like Ivan said, at least I'm popular. Well happy motherf*ckin' birthday Christophe and thank you for this gift. It's a superb release with everything that makes me love goa trance. Twisting melodies, awesome power, and music I can get lost in. He hits you with the power in the beginning and then slowly begins to turn the lights out culminating in a slow, eerie end of the world downtempo outro. Like De La said, you did it big like white boys wallets (obviously they never peeked at my wallet.) And you gave it away? Thank you from a guy with a small wallet. Ektoplazm Mdk
  6. Artist: Siam Title: Sunset In Jupiter EP Label: Timewarp Records Date: October, 2013 1. Endless Sea 2. Amanita Dream 3. Sunset In Jupiter This was released on my wife's birthday, but sorry I didn't buy enough cupcakes. What? Ummm...no. Geez, are there no boundaries with you Greeks? Don't feel bad, I didn't get any either. Siam (John Pitsakis) is like the underground hot property these days. His style is quite intricate with layers that just seem to seep into place. The promo describes it as music with "deep emotional melodies." Yeah, I would go along with that. And melody is fully represented here. It's not unlike the recent offering Voyage In The Universe EP from Cosmic Dimension. There are plenty of outerspace themes with cosmic sounds that fully engage the brain. It flows from delicate sequences to long and trance inducing melodies. Amanita Dream is more trancey in a harmless sort of way, bookended by some quality goa trance tracks with some storming phrases. The title track has a juicy and sneaky goa melody that particularly sticks in the melon. Congratulations to John and to Timewarp for delivering yet another quality arrow in the quiver of goa trance. Beatport Mdk

  10. Artist: Various Title: Goa Trance 5 Label: Tetsuo Date: 1999 1. Astral Projection - Andromeda 2. MFG - Intelligent Machine 3. Domestic - Metal Sense 4. Xerox - Kayazulu 5. Children of the Doc - Bionic Bong 6. Pigs In Space - Visitors (Part 1) 7. Cosmic Navigators feat. Xerox - Electric Energy 8. Boris Blenn - Rain (California Sunshine Remix) 9. Oforia - Big Bang (Ambient Mix) Tetsuo is a German trance label that unfortunately to my ears too closely resembles the word testicle. However in the vein of turning a negative into a positive it reminds me that I do have testicles and that I should keep my appointment with my doctor for yearly check ups. So a defunct trance label keeping an eye out for my health care is a pleasant if unintended consequence. Now turn your head and cough. And yest I realize the label was relaunched in 2008, but as far as goa goes, it may as well still be dead. Know why I like this compilation? It's not the same song and dance. Not the same classics copy and pasted to a disc with a different cover. And while the tracks my not be as brilliant as the usual classics, they're damn good in their own right. From the shimmering Andromeda to the not-quite-ambient-but-still-slowed-down version of Big Bang that sounds juicy and alien. And there isn't any filler to be found. Even the California Sunshine remix is fairly dreamy and mellow and believe me those two have made a career out of filler. Bionic Bong is a little abstract and perhaps more famous for its samples, but it was still entertaining during its almost 10 minute length. And as far as the MFG track goes I'm thrilled it's not Magnetic Activity or Exit Eternity. Biggest surprise? The Domestic track was a blistering ass kicking. Bottom line this compilation has 9 tracks that weren't played to death to the point of annoyance. It is nice to hear something different that is still high quality. Not as great as the well knowns, but eventually even chocolate becomes less delicious if you eat it every day. Mdk
  11. Artist: Ancient Alien Title: Tribute To The Elders EP Label: Timewarp Records Date: September, 2013 1. Identified Races 2. Inexplicable Feeling 3. Prophets of Orion 4. Tribute To The Elders Timewarp Records (managed by Renato Brnic, aka Nova Fractal) has been unloading digital EP's so fast you'd think they came with a side of cancer. Usually at least a couple would be weak, but surprisingly that has not been the case. This is Luiz Fernando Wilhelm with a short 4 track EP for our listening pleasure. While I wasn't impressed with the rambling opener the power and the complexity pick up after that. Inexplicable Feeling thumps with a strong bass presence and dark feeling as synth leads meander from the shadows. It's...eerie even if it also goes on a little long. Prophets of Orion suffers from the same affliction as the first track. Just kinda meh. Tribute to the Elders is the reason I'll keep watching this project. Even though it wasn't that detailed the power and old school flow were there. I think there is potential there if he lets the tracks evolve and takes them to the shadowy corners where a lot of artists are won't to go. Cutting a few minutes off wouldn't hurt. You've got my attention sir. Beatport Mdk
  12. Hi to all . I thought I'd post the link to my latest mix from the Goat Ranch. This was the first of the new monthly GR radio shows being aired on di.fm, every 3rd Friday. Details are on the Goat Ranch website. This mix is Goa trance but really leans more towards the sci-fi melodic that was being released at the time. Hope you enjoy :-) http://goatranch.com/2013/09/28/jim-appleton-celestial-transmission/ Celestial Transmission 01 The Antidote – Walk On The Moon 02 Motor Mouse – Indeli 03 Moog – Lazer Point 04 Children Of Paradise – Alien Nation pt2 05 Noosphere – 23rd Chromozone 06 Total Eclipse – Pulsar Glitch 07 The Pollinator – Parent Plant 08 Psychopod – Dreampod 09 Children Of Paradise – Alien Nation 10 X Dream – The Offender 11 E-Rection – Out Here We Are Stoned (The True School Heart Trance Mastermix) 12 Total Eclipse – Partycles 13 Xtra Terrestrial – Isra Alien 14 Organic Noise – Labyrinth 15 Noosphere – Carpe Diem 16 Total Eclipse – Collapsar 17 Hallucinogen – Soothsayer
  13. Artist: Ketoret Title: Missionary & Conceived EP Label: Square Root Productions Date: August, 2012 1. Missionary 2. Conceived Miranda Silvergren is back with an absolute beast of an EP that is absolutely saturated with the aromatic scent of old school... ..is what I would be saying if this was her. Truth is I don't know who it is. Imagine my surprise when this showed up on my doorstep. And by doorstep I mean inbox. Doesn't matter though, cause I'm always happy to get fresh goa trance for my listening pleasure. And it was a pleasure. Plenty of rising and falling leads soaked with the flavor of 1996. I hear missionary and I'm thinking awkward blind date with a librarian. Yeah...if the librarian was a stripper trying to pay her way through med school (I've heard that many times). This is like speed dating, but instead of the getting to know you crap we delve right into the melodic orgy. Acidic tastes along with percussive leads and 303 growls make me believe Astral actually released the new classic. Conceived starts slower but retains it's chameleon like ability and melodic flight. The 303 bite is welcome and if your searching for a rest stop on this journey...well, I hope you brought a change of underwear. Short and impressive (like me) I'd like to thank the goa stork that delivered this shiny bundle. Come and get it...it's FREE!!! Mdk

  15. A couple of moods in one track, heavy acid as the leading thread. =) Dragon Twins - True Nature (link to soundcloud)
  16. Artist: Various Title: Escape From Samsara Label: Secret Records Date: 1996 1. The Secret - Gorgeous (Orgasm Mix) 2. Cosmosis - Psychofunk 3. Pendragon feat. T'African - Maen Cetti 4. K-90 - Genesis (Terraform Mix) 5. Blokka - Exploration (First Time Mix) 6. Beamish - Fanfare 7. Audio Pancake - Central Heating For Kids 8. Future AKA - Flying High 9. Cybernaut - Califrae 10. Lab 4 - Transformation The Big Book of British Smiles? What the f*ck is this doing on the coffee table? Yes, yes peek a boo. Never gets old. Look, I don't want skin cancer either, but one does want a hint of color. Waitaminute...I'm detecting a pattern. I knew it! It's a British party up in here! So bring your bad teeth, pasty skin, and football hooligans because this CD is meant for reminiscing. Sh*tty weather be damned this is about capturing the past magic of the London trance scene from the days of yore. Afterwards it's up the apples and pears to the paki and some tasteless food. I don't care how much vinegar you put on it. Ooh hello, bird...what's up wit yo boat? Gorgerous- Very uplifting. This does not make me want to orgasm. Needs more tits. Psychofunk- Obviously a great goa trance blaster from Cosmosis that begs the question how the f*ck did these first two tracks end up on the same disc? Talk about things that don't go together. Say hello to Astral Projection's new hardware. No wonder it's taking forever. Korg is really running low on ideas. Maen City- Wow. Steel drum arpeggios and crowd noise. Guess you had to be there. Very trancey and cheesy. I see the anti-psychedelic serpent has raised it's ugly head yet again. Genesis- All they're doing here is messing with the cut-off filter on a 303. You had me at hello. Exploration- Fanfare- Picture if you will, dancing drag queens under a relentless strobelight. Now punch yourself in the tomatoes. That's not here, but if I'm thinking about it so should you. Good God this is horrible. Central Heating- Is this acid trance? I think this is acid trance. Not bad, but you could put a 303 over some polka and I'd probably listen to it. Flying High- You had me at the goa growl, but why did you sh*t all over it with the uplifting nonsense? Califrae- You're just like the rest of them! Reformation- Perhaps the highest bpm's on the disc? Maybe. This hyper trance will get all the suburban white kids in a frenzy let me tell you. It's so fast it almost seems as if it's not in rhythm. Before society taught me to fear black people and Muslims I was afraid of English punks. Man they were scary to a white kid from the burbs! Never met one and it was a totally irrational fear, but their Doc Martens, leather jackets, and multi colored mohawks made me think that's how all the British were. Ah, so young and impressionable. Like that fear this sounds old and dated and utterly ridiculous. It's a bunch of cheesy crap that would only appeal to those that attended this gathering. I'm guessing the Cosmosis track was in there for the goa freaks (I assume he played this venue). Thing is when you try to please everyone you end up pleasing no one. Mdk
  17. Artist: Enertopia Title: Face Adaptor Label: Krembo Records Date: July, 1998 1. Oh Nurse Over Ring 2. If When What We See 3. Torn Between 4. Brain Spiders 5. Open Up (The Elevator) 6. The Guardian 7. A Little Tiny Pause 8. The Forehead Stories 9. The Treatment (A-La Family Way) 10. A Man of God? "The war between heaven and hell depends on the choices you make. And those choices require sacrifice." Enertopia is Emiliano Solazzi Griminger and this was his 2nd album. It's a combination of psy, goa, techno, and darkpsy. I'm still deciding on whether I like it or not, but one thing remains very clear... This is some evil and twisted stuff. First, I'll say there is a lot to get through. It is densely packed with so many thought strands it can be difficult to follow. As I mentioned it is a mixture of the styles above written in conjunction with the artist B.L. T. Loud and always dark this has more in common with Chaos Laboratory from GMS than Transdimensional. There are quite a few layers to enjoy with lots of thought provoking and moody samples sometimes to its detriment. It's a fine line between using a sample to enhance a track and beating you over the head with it like in If When What We See. That was oftentimes the style back then so it's not a dealbreaker for me. Because each track is so thick and similar in structure sitting through an entire album of music like this can be challenging. But like an octopus on LSD because it flails in so many directions I never find it boring. Lots of effects help to maintain the dark and atmospheric conditions as well as several instances where he pulls of some searing goa riffs. Torn Between and Brain Spiders are a psychedelic wet dream, but Forehead Stories and The Treatment loses me with its noisy repetition. Not your everyday goa, but if you devote some time to it I believe it will surprise you. Mdk

  19. Artist: Various Title: Goa Spirit - Hard Psychedelic Trance Label: Cyber Production Date: 1996 1. Encens - Infinite Image 2. Eat Static - Bony Incus (Man With No Name Mix) 3. Subcouds - Greenflow 4. Etnica - Fractal Gates 5. Miranda - Steps To The Stars 6. Har-El - Tower of Babylon 7. Moonweed - Telepath 8. Encens - Spiritual Transgression 9. OOOD - Silence "More than 25 millenia ago, man began his first tentative steps to the stars." Taking this CD with you would definitely pass the time. Every single track has appeared elsewhere, but if you are looking for maximum bang for your goa buck then look no further. How many times have we seen an attractive track listing only to be let down by the music? Not here my friend. Each one is gold, guaranteed to get the blood pumping. Spiraling melodies that capture the essence of a time gone by. Shimmering and spiritual this should come with a warning. Repeated listens will cause the non-stop urge to build a time machine and return to the glory days of goa trance. You son of a b*tch! Mdk
  20. Hi everyone! After a year i managed to finish a track and sharing with you now: This is something different with better quaility than last year. Enjoy
  21. Artist: Lumen Title: Toffee In My Teeth / Vegetable Frequency Modulator EP Label: Transient Records Date: October, 1997 1. Toffee In My Teeth 2. Vegetable Frequency Modulator Getting toffee in your teeth is a pain in the ass. You'll be picking at that sh*t for an hour and consider yourself lucky if you don't lose a tooth while chewing it. But it's so good I can't help myself. This is Chris Conklin with a nice EP. The title track has an acidic lead that makes me think of the gooey stuff as he gets down to some serious knob twisting. Lots of energy to be found here. The vegetable track is a gritty piece of dirty bass lead manipulation and pure old school sound. There are moments when it roars like a lion and times when it can be a low growl. One thing I noticed is you can barely hear the hi-hats. Maybe he didn't even use any. Doesn't really bother me, just was aware of it. Mdk
  22. Artist: Lunar Asylum Title: Bubble & Tickle EP Label: Sirius Records Date: 1996 1. Bubble 2. Tickle "Until 2 days ago that sound had never been heard on this Earth." Have you had your funk today? You have if you listened to this EP. Well, the bubble side anyway. With a funky bass line and screeching leads bubble is old school goa with supreme danceability. Tickle seems like more of a throw in without much to offer. Heard the first minute? Yeah, save yourself some time and go do something constructive. I'm making BBQ Chicken in the crockpot. Mdk
  23. Artist: Various Title: Galactic Discovery Label: Goa Galaxy Date: July, 2013 01. Astralunka - Oniric Wild (8:15) 02. GoaAngel - Fallen Star (7:37) 03. Carbon - Enlightenment (9:08) 04. Structural Mind Engine - The Source (5:30) 05. GalaxyUnit - Dominators (7:39) 06. Shtrom - Electro Magnetic (7:54) 07. Somnus Inc. - In-Somnia (8:01) 08. Hybrid FX - Spirit Magic (8:13) 09. Cactus Arising - Our Destination (7:42) 10. OGO - Mystical Forest (6:17) Ahhh...Bulgaria. When not marveling at the pristine condition of their many excellent highways and majestic mountains this nation goes largely unnoticed. Why? Well, according to WikiHow: "It's famous for extremely beautiful girls who mostly act and dress like hookers." Clearly the minister of tourism's ad campaign savy outside the box thinking is meant to target the horny male demographic. Which means all men. Obviously being this close to Romania you'd think they could cash in on some of that Dracula money. But keep on walking with that bullsh*t says Romania. It ain't happening and I don't want to start a turf war. Well one third of the country is in the woods, they are big into wine (and yogurt for that matter) and you can get cheap property. What's not to like? Couple that with all the hookers and I can't help but think opportunity is passing us by. New Bulgarian netlabel Goa Galaxy is out with its first compilation (for free as well) bringing goa trance to the bagpipe playing masses. "Grease me up woman! These Bulgarians think they know how to play the pipes!" Like one would expect several styles are represented with varying degrees of quality. Got to crawl before you can walk. Ask DAT Records. No, don't ask Suntrip, those motherf*ckers came running out of the womb. While parts of it can sound less professional than the established labels, there is value to be found here. It sounds like a free compilation and some of the tracks sound amateurish, but don't let that deter you. Enlightenment is futuristic with great melodies and presence. It undergoes a change near the end that incorporates a folkish melody that works. Dominators is a solid old school goa trance track that captures the eerie quality of space (a theme the album is built around). And Spirit Magic is a churning descent into a black hole. So all in all it's not all bad. I just used all 3 times in a short sentence so mark the date and remember where you were. Anytime a label wants to release some goa trance I'm interested in hearing it if only to see where they try and take it. The fact that it was free was icing on the cake. There are some good moments here and I hope they keep at it. But don't do it for me. Do it for the hookers who travel those pristine roads. Goa Galaxy Mdk
  24. Artist: Bell Size Park Title: Shroom Hunt Label: Timewarp Records Date: July, 2013 1. The Shroom Hunt 2. Interceptor 2013 3. Shambala 4. Goa Child (Into The Matrix mix) Bell Size Park used to be a trio that released an album called the Truth is There back in 96. I've never heard it so I can't comment on it. But these days it's a one man outfit. In 2011 he released Escape From Planet X EP on Dimensional Records which was psytrance and it didn't thrill me. Now here he is with his latest on ridiculously prolific Timewarp Records and this one I like. Most of it is a psy/techno hybrid with some goa elements. Evolving and constantly changing he shows his skill and it's pretty good. It sounds cold and very metallic with the exception of the title track. The Shroom Hunt is a page right out of the old school playbook with a very active and nimble 303. Easily my favorite of the EP. Nice work. Beatport Juno Download Mdk
