  1. Artist: Aes Dana Title: Inks Label: Ultimae Date: December, 2019 1. Inks 2. Untold 3. Nuphar Log 4. Peace Corrosion 5. Otherness (Album Edit) 6. Transparency Syndrome 7. Akacie 8. Ashen 9. The Gradual District 10. Alep Offset 11. Juniper Vincent Villuis whose name sounds more like a cartoon villain than a master of the downtempo genre has released his first album under the Aes Dana name in 7 years. He did a collaborative effort with Miktek (Far & Off which was brilliant by the way) in 2016, but he's back to producing music. And we are all the better for it. This is some cold and oftentimes dark stuff most suitable for a rainy day (surprise, surprise). The sound is off the charts amazing and moves deftly between minimal, glitch, techno, dub, and downtempo, oftentimes within the same track. It's very emotional with stratospheric pads and audible clicks and pops that will welcome your grey mood. The basses though...thunderous and encompassing. This is the kind of album where you sift through the layers to hear new sounds no matter how loud or soft they may be. Like a lot of his music there isn't one track that stands out above the rest, but as a whole package it really is an excellent listen. And I'll agree with the Discogs reviewer that it is one of his best albums to date. Ultimae Bandcamp
  2. Artist: Xenofish Title: Decoder Label: Self-Released Date: October, 2013 01 - Rise Against Myself (90 BPM) 02 - Broken Interface (120 BPM) 03 - Spectral Edges (180 BPM) 04 - Forward (180 BPM) 05 - Sanctus (176 BPM) 06 - Rea (176 BPM) 07 - Arashi (176 BPM) This is the sophomore effort of Christian Becker and I like to think it's the companion album to his debut the same year Encoder. Rise Against Myself brings rich electronic hums and a hard beat. What a great downtempo intro that is clearly not taking it easy. Broken Interface is the sound of artificial intelligence coming online and becoming aware. If this wasn't part of the cyber-futuristic theme this would come off as just noise. It still might, but it fits and it helps illuminate the type of world he wants to place you in. The machines are back, and...they don't seem happy. 3rd track BOOM! Drum n Bass. The bpm's are very high, but the breaks still rule! And out of this one comes a nice, groovy rhythm and then almost imperceptibly it became a dnb track again. Well done. Forward and Rea are a brutal assault that will pin you back with their rapid fire arpeggiated leads and thundering percussion. The break in Rea is so welcome, I can almost hear myself panting with the faded drums in the background. Where as Encoder ended with a soft ambient closer Arashi is more in your face carnage, but softened slightly by the ethereal vocals of Hatsune Miku. I love futuristic music and if your thing is electronic mayhem with a science fiction theme then this is your guy, The production is out of this world and I applaud him for not just making an empty drum n bass album with little variety. It is an intense, almost too much voyage, but the skill he employs is amazing. It's like...electronic surgery. Free at Ektoplazm
  3. Artist: Xenofish Title: Encoder Label: Self Released Date: May, 2013 01 - Xenofish - Sigma (146 BPM) 02 - Xenofish - Leviathan (145 BPM) 03 - Xenofish - Discharge (176 BPM) 04 - Xenofish - Ziggurat (146 BPM) 05 - Xenofish - Mashiro's Dream (155 BPM) 06 - Xenofish - Logfile (97 BPM) 07 - Cybernetika - Pulsar (feat. Xenofish) (141 BPM) 08 - Xenofish - Blurred Matrix (83 BPM) This is the debut album from Christian Becker and it is an offering of different styles while running with a sci-fi/technology theme. It sounds very clear and I will tell you it is fairly intense. He eases us into things with the benign Sigma, a track with a nice breakbeat, but pretty forgettable. Leviathan is a somewhat harder full-on track with a very nice break that becomes more lush the longer it goes on. Discharge brings us our first taste of drum n bass and it is massive. Walls of electronic sound puncture the atmosphere with the high tempo calling card of this style. Again, Christian's break work is a highlight of the track with the dynamic give and take of all the elements. The track is constantly evolving, even slowing down to a mid tempo swagger briefly before erupting. Easily my favorite. Ziggurat is a lush, cosmic journey feeling warm and cold at the same time. The electronics vibrate as if alive and it instantly draws me in. Same with the beginning of Mashiro's Dream as he has fun with the cut-off knob. Decent, but not as cool as the previous two. Logfile is interesting because it's glitchy, noisy, nonsense sound is how I believe a computer would create music without instruction. Even though it is itself amusical, it fits right in with the theme. The team-up with Cybernetika is a treat and his influence is readily visible with a more melodic flair. Perhaps the machines last gasp, their final attempt to subvert the humans. The final track is an atmospheric ambient aftermath as docile as the previous tracks were unyielding. The battle is over and all that remains is to rebuild. It's a wonderful debut album. Full of varied styles with electronic fire and storytelling breaks. Very futuristic with excellent production. Highly recommended! Free at Ektoplazm
  4. Artist: Various Title: Into This Wired Abyss Vol. 3 Label: Self Released Date: March, 2014 01 - EurythmY - Liquid Wonderment (90 BPM) 02 - Sixis - Mycolinguistic (Sigil Remix) (154 BPM) 03 - Atman Construct - Coming Up In The Elevator (100 BPM) 04 - False Identity - Crystalline Refinement (106 BPM) 05 - Soulular - Apparition (88 BPM) 06 - Master Minded - Trio Break Space Zone (128 BPM) 07 - 3lines - Hipstrap (72 BPM) 08 - JP Illusion vs Waveform - Tilt (90 BPM) 09 - Mindex - Inner Flame (86 BPM) 10 - Cactus Bath - Exobiology (100 BPM) 11 - Wolfen Technologies - External Encounters (90 BPM) 12 - Xenomma - Nootropic Stack (143 BPM) 13 - Arcturian Soul & Dash - Konduit (101 BPM) 14 - Zar - Serpantine (72 BPM) Sometimes I like to go back to the free well for releases I might not have come across otherwise. One of the reasons Ekto has always been such a great resource. This compilation was compiled by Atman Construct (that name seems familiar...ah here's why) and is the third installment of the series. Sometimes one needs to take a break from 4/4 trance and delve into something a little different. This is full of big, downtempo beats and glitch tsunamis. Plenty of liquid basses and thumping kicks with somewhat smaller track times to keep things from getting stale. Some of it was weird (Trio Break Space Zone, Hipstrap), sometimes a dark, evil slog (Inner Flame- Loved it) but I enjoyed listening to the many electronic effects. Nice work. Free at Ektoplazm
  5. Reflections of memories and dreams, all those stories and good hopes... Close your eyes and recall some of those mystical moments that are left in the distant past ... Everything has changed, except the silent, still witness within us. Experience of change is only possible on the canvas of the stillness, as well as the light is only real on the canvas of the dark. The change itself, with all the fractal worlds of all possible, always changing forms, is like a tiny little invisible dot on the surface of the vast omnipresent land of stillness. When you realize this, you're free. There's nothing to fear, nothing to lose, nothing to get, and a lot to give. You're free to give. You give, you live.... Do you remember? This album is dedicated to those mystical moments when we're not looking from the mind, when we are what we really are, like if there's no time. If it takes time, it's the mind. If it takes no time, it's Nirvana... Peace. Released March 6, 2019 Album art by Daniel Spacek. Bandcamp - https://ambientium.com/album/city-of-memories

  7. Artist: Kalya Scintilla Title: Dance The Spiral Never Ending Label: Merkaba Music Date: January, 2012 01 - Rises In The East (80 BPM) 02 - Whomp Shanti (85 BPM) 03 - Bone & Stone (70 BPM) 04 - The Sands Of Grime (90 BPM) 05 - Break Belief Bounce (feat. Alice Spacedoll) (100 BPM) 06 - Listen With Your Heart (70 BPM) 07 - Caravan Planet (100 BPM) 08 - Swaggered (104 BPM) 09 - Way Of The Tarot (95 BPM) 10 - The Velvet Squish (70 BPM) 11 - Dance The Spiral Never Ending (feat. Alice Spacedoll) (105 BPM) "I'm all about that bass, bout that bass, no treble!" Get it big guy. Smooches! "Sure I could get up at dawn..." "Go to a job I hate that does not inspire me creatively, for the rest of my life..." "Or I could wake up at noon and learn how to play the sitar." F*ck you Daisy you can have that little mouse d*ck motherf*cker. Take Asian melodies, some oh so juicy bass, and throw in random glitchy electronic swagger and you've got this album. Originally released in 2012 it is now being offered freely by your favorite free music site. I think this guy loves him some weed based on sample usage and track titles. The album itself is a great mix of ethnic acoustic instruments and the ever present wobbly bass. But it's not just bloops and bleeps around a bass line. I mean that's in there, but there are melodies and intricate layers as well. Some of the coolest things I found in here were drum loops from songs you've heard on the radio. The track lengths are also kept fairly short (none reach 6 minutes) to keep the listener from burn out. Pun intended. Free at Ektoplazm Mdk

    ZEE - Id.Entity

Artist: Zebbler Encanti Experience Title: Id.Entity Label: Gravitas Reecordings Release: June 5th, 2018 1. Id.Entity 2. ZEE & Woulg - Flesh Out 3. ZEE & Of The Trees - Let Me In 4. Trance Humanism 5. ZEE & Prismatic - Caverns 6. Journey To The Centre Of The Artichoke 7. ZEE & Hlafred - Immanent Flow 8. Id.Entity (Mr. Bill Remix) 9. Exit Stance From their website: Zebbler Encanti Experience (aka “ZEE”) is an audio/visual collaboration between video artist Zebbler and electronic music producer Encanti, based out of Boston, USA and Valencia, Spain. Remember the first time you got lost listening to Psytrance? Finding yourself in a state of complete bewilderment, unable to predict what was going to happen next, looking around for someone to share your confusion with, desperately trying to figure out if it would be ok to pick your laundry up a few days late? Or do they give it away after 2 days? No it couldn't be two days. They can't hold onto it forever though can they? whats the time limit then? And will they tell me off when I arrive or is it normal? whats normal though? Wait a minute is this the same DJ? Well thats pretty much what you get with duo ZEE. It’s a beautiful thing to find an album as completely messed up, crazy and unique as what ZEE produces. Whether you like the style or not their ability to dance between 4 different genres in one song so seamlessly is a worthy of a mention. From the entire Gravitas crew ZEE gets me moving in the most directions at once. The album cover accurately portrays their style, one look and you know you're in for some psychedelic madness. Psychedelic madness that will help you push 104 when you’re in a 100 zone, any track from a ZEE album will get you there. While the last albums I listened to from them Inner G and Freakquency were all about the drop with elements of trap and trance throughout most songs, here we get an even amount of glitch, bass, trance and trap, all heavily psychedelic of course. If your not a fan of the style I wouldn’t recommend listening the entire way through. But I’m sure the style or craziness of a few songs here might make you say ‘huh, what the heck just happened? Lets do that again'. Zebbler Encanti Experience has a way of making sure that you have no idea what's going to happen next and almost always pulls it off. Favourite tracks 4, 6, 9. https://music.gravitasrecordings.com/album/id-entity
  9. Artist: Various Artists Title: Phonophilia compiled by Gayle Adams Label: Phonix Records Cat no.: PHODIGI022 Format: Digital download Artwork by Paulo Etnarama Phonophilia is defined as the love of sounds. For Phonix Records and our extended family, 8 years into our journey, this love for sounds stays true. It is the north star that helps us stay the course. With that in mind, our very own Gayle Adams, partner and co-manager at Phonix Records, started her own journey to compile this release - a testament to the sounds we love. Over a year a later and Phonophilia was born - a journey built to stand the test of time. The release starts off with Infektion's 'Rage' (Bruno Lopes/Portugal). Deep and deliberate, it is an ode to the classic twilight sound only the way Infektion knows how to - intense and engaging without compromise. Glitch (Dash Hawkins/ South Africa) steps in to dispel any 'Misconceptions'. More energy, more groove and a robot communicating through melodies a single message - something wicked, this way comes. We then go into the depths of the inner self. Through the practice of deep meditation, and fundamental vibrations, L.E.O.F and Ionkhe (Mario Funes and Ivan Lugo/Mexico) show listeners how each one of us can be a 'Nuclear Army' unto ourselves. Reborn with a new sense of understanding - we encounter a message from the other side. FinalFlash (Robert Dalton/South Africa) share the otherworldly tail of 'Dhampyre'. A beautiful story with bone chilling atmospheres - a story as ancient as time itself. coRupt (Andre Rossouw/ South Africa) furthers this new found sense of focus through 'Strange Fiction'. He helps transition the release to the next level with an effortlessly woven story of epic proportions. The next chapter gets the adrenal glands working in overtime - Domination (Ricardo Barreto/Mexico) remixes Locked Locker's 'Alpha' (Marcelo Espindola/Brazil and Josue Guzman/Mexico). Carefully honed to a razor's edge - this is truly a diamond in the rough. Killer Buds (Marcelo Espindola and Tarcisio Mainardi/ Brazil) and Dirty Devils (Felipe Vidigal and Emilio Renault / Brazil) take this energy one step further with their outrageously over-powered tale of 'The Lumberjack'. Among all the chaos and mayhem, 'The Descent' into a melodic dimension starts with Earworm (Max Meshiv/Israel). The master does it again - with this slick psychedelic BOMB. Not to be outdone are Contrast and ReFractor's 'Hyper Drive' (Conor James Steed and Luan Boes/South Africa) - a deeper exploration further into the melodic dimension. With the final leg of this release, Epitaph (Andres Romero and Jose Novelo/Mexico) featuring Orc'N'Roll (Alejandro Olvera/Mexico) take listeners into a burst of energy, guitar riffs and shadowy melodies. Singularity (Andre Muller/South Africa) further explores this realm with his epic remix of Iron Lotus's 'Lotus of Sorrow' (Daniel Honor/South Africa). A well-executed story that effortlessly balances both power and beauty. Not to be outdone, Phonix scientist Omega Flight (Derren Nuttall/UK) teams with Twisted Reality (Ben Edge/UK) to present a deranged re-telling of Deliriant's 'Truth be Told' (Shane Renew/South Africa). A wormhole of an experience, their remix transforms this classic into something truly unique. Beware, the acid is indeed in the music. The final chapter of our journey is 'Anechoic Chamber' by FrontRunner (Marc Le Roux/South Africa) featuring Rubix Qube (Kieron Grieves/South Africa). It is a fitting end to our exploration of Phonophilia. Beware - the 'Anechoic Chamber' will completely absorb any residual waves and whatever is left of listeners with its measured manic chaos. The Phonix team would like to thank everyone involved with this release for helping us realize our vision. Now, let's follow the north star like we have done so in the past, and will do for many cycles more... Take us to your speakers! It is time to explore Phonophilia! TRACKLIST: 1. Collecting tracks from three Ep's (Alkaline, Cut., and The Unexpected Hours) it's dark and very introspective, perfect for overcast and rainy days. Glitchy sounds and percussion abound; vehicles for daydreaming and listening to time dissolve away. Futuristic and cold with a firm grasp of the melancholy. The sound is rich throughout and rarely have I felt such a feeling of isolation. To me all the tracks flow together into one fluid production which prevent me from discerning whether one was better than another. Nicely done. 16. Intergalactic Journey was a sold out event that I hosted, arranged and performed at in Tallinn on October 22nd 2016, featuring the most epic chillout lineup we could find from the underground scene of Estonia, including my good friend Fuluf well known in this forum. It was also the biggest chillout party we have ever had here. It was a night of magic and transformation. Starting with an intro and piano solo, I quickly go to deliver some of the finest psychedelic glich vibes this planet has to offer. I am also writing an album and all of my work so far is available on my page. hope you enjoy! 19. Artist: Psilocybian Title: Unfold Oneself Into Endlessness Label: BMSS Records Date: November, 2014 01: Wonderfantabulous 02: Dreamability 03: A thing about inconsequent Reverberation 04: Pathways 05: Science Friction 06: Strawberry Fields 07: Unfold Oneself into Endlessness 08: PsiloCybian & Deimos - Waveform with a mind of its own 09: Yield 10: NLO 11: Let me tell you about a weird Dream So we all know Sasa Dukic (Psilocybian) from his fine work in the full-on arena with albums like Dreamtime and Godhead. Both great stuff from a guy who likes to put a pinch of goa in all that he does. For his latest he delivers something that has been on his mind for quite a while. A chill-out album. It took me a long time to review this because I had the hardest time getting into it. And I'm lazy. Well, mostly because I'm lazy. This isn't the dreamy soundscape stuff you would expect from Ultimae or the crazy psychedelic madness from the likes of Shpongle. I suppose you would classify it as psychill (if you must), but it's really all over the map. In speaking with Sasa he basically said he wanted to make a chill out album that people could dance to. Say what now? The name chill out means to, well...chill out. Relax. Not dance. That's what the other stuff is for. So I had to wrap my brain around that mindf*ck. And let me tell you this isn't music that will help you escape, or drift off into memory. That's not what he wanted. A lot of the tracks are big beated. Don't think that's a word, but you know what I mean. Head nodding beats. He's not here to put you to sleep, but to wake your punk ass up and keep you grooving. He mentioned that this album was made without any inspiration from other artists so he took the music wherever it wanted to go without any distractions. Good for him. My favorite was Science Friction with its big beat and Shpongley vocal tacet. And he kept the goa special sauce in there, don't worry. It's really a very different type of chill album than I'm used to, but I think it hits some psychedelic notes. It has some really good melodies and as I mentioned he wanted you to dance with this so that's in here. He floats among all the styles, breakbeat, downtempo, ambient, even a little drum n bass. So there's probably something for everyone here. Not my favorite chill album, but an interesting foray into chill from a guy who knows how to craft a psytrance track. BMSS Psyshop

  21. Artist: Infected Mushroom Title: Army of Mushrooms Label: Dim Mak Records Date: May, 2012 1. Never Mind 2. Nothing to say 3. Send me an angel 4. U R so fucked 5. The Rat 6. Nation of wusses 7. Wanted To 8. Serve my thirst 9. I Shine 10. Drum N' Bassa 11. The Pretender 12. The Messenger 2012 13. Swingish (Bonus Track) Elder statesmen Infected Mushroom are the Def Leppard of the psytrance genre. Minus the big 80's hair. And probably mother/daughter threesomes, alcoholic binges, and Behind the Music special. For hard rockers Def Leppard it was Pyromania and Hysteria that put them on the map and they've been riding that pony for 3 decades. After those two albums it was pretty much downhill in terms of quality as many a soccer mom could be heard rocking their latest ballad in the Honda Odyssey on the way to little Timmy's qudditch tournament. IM's claim to fame was The Gathering and Classical Mushroom and after that depending on your point of view things may or may not have gone seriously wrong. While still clinging to their roots they seemed to veer off into commercial territory. I defy you to label their music other than what the haters would undeniably call crap. Their last album Legend of the Black Shawarma had it's moments and mixed results so do we have to put up with more singing or have they changed course yet again? One thing you can say is that this project has a knack for pissing people off. As I mentioned with the last album it was the singing. Here it is the equally polarizing field of dubstep. You either love it or hate it. On this effort they combine the carnal robotic knowledge of dubstep with some of the Riddler's funky groove. This is evident from the 1st track Nevermind which will keep the toe tapping and head spinning when it morphs into the wobbly speaker shredding dubstep. Nothing to Say has plenty to say with a nice bouncy beat and melody. Which is then utterly destroyed by one of the worst buildups I have ever heard. Ever. But I love the smashing dubstep that comes immediately after, but why did they have to ruin it with that buildup? Because that's what they f*cking do. Send Me an Angel- Is that Hebrew? Call me an anti-semite if you must, but it's not a very pretty language to sing. I bet he spit all over the microphone. Oh, and this track also has the second (it was very close) worst buildup of all time. U R So Fucked.... yeeeeeeaaaaaaah....... Even if you ignore the title the Trent Reznor-like screaming his nobody loves me angst is absolutely horrible. Luckily The Rat follows and that is some toe tapping fun and a thumping you're only likely to receive if you ask a fat lady when her baby is due. Nation of Wusses continues the funk party forcing Soul Train lines to spontaneously erupt wherever you look. And an uplifting melody? Get the f*ck outta here. Must. Get Down. To Dubstep. And the dubstep is never far behind. As the wobbly and squelchy short track Wanted To proves. The female vocal ain't bad and all I can say is at least it isn't Dudev singing. Serve My Thirst unfortunately sees a return to the singing and it, uh...it ain't pretty. There is more singing on I Shine, but truthfully it's not that bad. The beat is ultra catchy and when that happens you can overlook a lot. At this point I'm still kinda numb but even I can recognize the harsh guitar leads and vocal manipulations that has been the calling card of IM for a while. But because dubstep is their shiny new toy they cram it into the Drum n Baasa track as well. Of course for me it was the most memorable part of that track. Oh, and the painful buildups. Please make it stop. The Messanger is their epic track that shows how musical and theatrical they can be. Symphonic, classical, and very dramatic. Goes from downtempo to very uptempo and back and reminds me of Dancing with Quadaffi. Oh and you didn't think they would leave the dubstep out of this track did you? C'mon, they had almost 11 minutes to fill. The end reminds of some 1980's Jan Hammer soundtrack stuff. Pretty cool. The final "bonus track" is Swingish and I'll be honest at this point my mind is overloaded and it sounded like all the rest of the tracks. Can I decline a bonus track? Look this is what they do and who they are. Let go of the past because it doesn't seem like they have any interest in returning to it. Their style is un boxworthy and all over the place, but their sound production is still flawless. So take it for what it is. A good time. Sometimes I think they manipulate sounds and just make noise because they can. They still bring the beats and let's not forget this is still dance music. It's a lot to take in for one listening, but I enjoyed it. Most of it. Beatport Goa Store Saiko Sounds Beatspace Psyshop Mdk

  24. Artist: Human Error Title: The DNA is DOA Label: CRL Studios Date: April, 2012 1. Population 0 2. The DNA is DOA 3. Overrun 4. Inevitable 5. Hopeless Utopia (c0ma Remix) 6. Satcom 410-NE (Tokee Remix) 7. Hopeless Utopia (Dyskhord Remix) 8. Satcom 410-NE (Lucidstatic Remix) 9. Finite (Pandora's Black Book Remix) "Once you actually start to look around...you start to wonder if you'd be doing society a favor by getting rid of all these people." Ok the Donald Trump hordes are getting out of control. Please know that this is a very vocal minority of people that follow this douche pickle. Imagine a not so distant future where the basic normalcy of life has been disrupted. Where democracy has ceased to exist and man has reverted to his more tribal instincts. Technology has evolved, but not all are privy to it and everywhere are faded and crumbling monoliths to our past greatness. Not prospering. Just surviving. Pretty much every post apocalyptic movie ever made. May I introduce you to its very bleak soundtrack. Human Error is Tom Box from the UK and he has created quite the atmosphere full of futuristic melancholy. He explores all areas of downtempo with breakbeats, dark ambient, and industrial glitch. It flows from still quiet to aggressive menace all while carrying its sense of dread like a scar. Worth a listen surely and it's one of those name your price digital albums. But I'll warn you the latter part leans heavily towards the industrial side of things. Human Error Bandcamp
