  1. Artist: Flict Title: Explorers EP Label: Self-Released Date: April, 2012 01 - Explorers (55 BPM) 02 - Against The Wind (75 BPM) 03 - To-And-Fro (80 BPM) 04 - Starlight (80 BPM) I had been meaning to get to this one a while ago, but it just kept getting pushed back. This is Dan Flict who released his debut Explorers back in 2009 so I guess this was just a refresher so more people could give it a listen. The first track is a deep journey to the bottom of the sea interacting with creatures in their native environment. Slow like bubbles rising from your scuba gear. Against the Wind is more slow motion turtle movements and dreamy views below a hazy ocean. To-And-Fro sees the first steady beat appear and Buddhist like monk chants echo deeply beneath the sea. Didn't connect as well with this one. The final track Starlight puts a picture of light on a nighttime sea as dubby bass hums against weird human noises. Odd. He's good at creating textures and deep feeling ambient with a liquid and bubbly quality. At least with this release. Hope he is still producing music. Free At Ektoplazm Mdk
  2. Artist: Metaphorical Cloud Title: Morphing Label: Flying Woofer Records Date: July, 2011 1 - Imagination Bay (120 BPM) 2 - Cenosis (120 BPM) 3 - Gardens (70 BPM) 4 - Morphing (101 BPM) 5 - Sphere (103 BPM) 6 - Substance (99 BPM) 7 - Quartz (120 BPM) 8 - Psyche (70 BPM) 9 - Backward (68 BPM) 10 - Aerobios (107 BPM) 11 - Thenaria (62 BPM) Flying Woofer Records? Never heard of them, but I might start paying attention now. This is Eduard Sionov from that huge landmass known as Russia with his debut. I don't know what's in the water over there (yes I do, it's Chernobyl goodness...where do you think zombies come from?) but there seem to be a lot of quality artists from that region. Which is great for the listening public. Eduard lavishes us with floating pads and electronic textures as the beat marches slowly on. Hard day at work? Put this on. Kids being a pain in the ass? Stick 'em in front of some Team Umizoomi and put this on. Utterly relaxing stuff that allows you to float amongst the puffy clouds. Sometimes those clouds smile back at you letting the sunshine through, and sometimes it's a bit overcast, so it's a good mix of brooding darkness and light. Recommended. Free at Ektoplazm Mdk

    Om - Altona

Artist: Om Title: Altona Label: Ovnimoon Records Date: November, 2011 1. Te Extrano 2. Lost Look 3. La Esperanza 4. Desesperacion 5. Revivir 6. Earthquake Feelings 7. Enjoy the meditation 8. La Duda 9. Hijos 10. Viene Ovnimoon must be a label with deep pockets because they seem to churn out an album every week. Hector Stuardo is the jefe there and his psy-gressive style usually yields positive results. But here he adopts a personality that moves in an entirely different direction. Slowly. Very slowly. Seems Hector decided to try his hand at the drone/ambient style of things. Now drone, at least for me, has a negative connotation. As in "My wife continued to drone on and on about nothing in particular." Words that you never say to your wife chapter 7. Anyways, the main thing this will do is relax you. Long and I do mean long pads float slowly by like cotton candy clouds and before you know it 5 minutes went by. Because a lot isn't happening with the music it allows your mind becomes the storyteller to weave a tale to which even you don't know the ending. Or at least think of all the sh*t you need to do today. Desesperacion was more dark ambient with a creepy feel, but even that one had him just turning the volume down in the middle and then turning it back up. I might not be the best person to review drone music. But because I don't normally travel in that genre maybe I am precisely what you need. There's music that is relaxing and engaging. Altona was a lot of the former and not enough of the latter. You know what this is...background noise. Meditation music. Hell, he even names one of his tracks Enjoy the meditation. If the mind is not challenged or stimulated then it shall wander. I expect to hear this music when I'm getting a hot stone massage by a nude Salma Hayek. A guy can dream can't he? "OMG Hector tried to kill the vice president!!!" Psyshop Beatspace Goastore Mdk
  5. So lately I have heart impressive electronic amibent and chillout on tv as background music which I don#t know which artists it is from. it is better than most goa trance and is also very deep and moving. It is beat ambient music with 80 to 120 bpm and has goa like melodies but not as heavy as goa but lighter and sometimes more sad than goa trance. It is impressive music that I really don#tknow why it is so difficult to find since so many documentaries use it for background and i have heart it on some cds aswelll. It is music with some kind of piano, most tracks contain some kind of electronical piano, that does not really sound like real piano but a bit more electronica, it adds a very fresh atmosphere and is really some of the best music I know, I hope you know such music and can recommend it. I am sorry to use this old game as an example, but this shows exactly the kind of music I mean and such music is used a lot in documentaries on tv and it is much deeper than most ambient recommended here, it is much more alive, has much more charmonie and mch more emotion than most ambient crap recommended here, I want such msuic, I don't want simple crap ambient with one melody for 12 minutes, but I want fresh and very alive, EMOTIONAL ambient music, such music even ca impress girls. However it should be a bit longer, not only 2 minutes for one track.
  6. PIRATE RADIO'S ONEIRONYZE : ELVEN CHEMISTRY V.S. SILVER MOON : DROPS THE LOTUS BLOSSOM Fresh organic beats with pounding melodic baselines in an orchestra of wisdom and brain tickling frequencies. A mind fuck at every level, best heard in full surround so one might perceive every angle of the dynamic panning programmed. Hypnotic rhythms will capture your senses and leave you dancing uncontrollably to the contagious groove as familiar voices make you giggle and reminisce. Let me know what you like/ don't like/ recomendations.... ALways open to improvenents PLUR

  8. Artist: Prometheus / Hallucinogen Title: Clarity From Deep Fog / Spiritual Antiseptic EP Label: Twisted Records Date: February, 1997 1. Clarity From Deep Fog - Prometheus Process 2. Spiritual Antiseptic - Hallucinogen We know Benji Vaughn was part of Prometheus Process and Simon Posford needs no introduction. They later teamed up for some Younger Brother action. Ewww. Back in 97 they released this ep which consisted of the beautifully entrancing ambient piece Clarity from Deep Fog as well as the more well known Spiritual Antiseptic. In this case I liked the ambient one better my only gripe being that it was too short. The first time I heard it was on Tantrance 6 and it was 7 minutes or so long, so maybe they shortened it for the EP. Simon's track is typical Simon, with a thumping vibe, the smearing of sound manipulation, and loud. He certainly packs a lot in there. Good as always, but if we're being honest he's done better. Right? Mdk

Suitable surrounds and subtle sounds are as equally uplifting by reaching for rhythms that are in tune with the most peaceful elements of the soul. Psy-ambient duo Land Switcher are substantial examples of this finest of artistic abilities by taking listeners/participants on a round tour of the expanses of the cosmos of human experience in their newly released EP, Tribe Scenario. As individuals Freddy Chauvin (Producer, DJ) and Antoine Martineau (Drummer, Percussionist) are proven talented musicians with formative dub roots but in co-joining in 2010 they have taken on new capabilities as the collaborative components of Land Switcher. With joyfully received live show taking them across the continents and an ever-expanding back-catalogue they are now beginning to mine the full potential of their greater whole. Tribe Scenario is four tracks of intelligent blissfulness with raw percussions and far reaching psy-sensibilities engendering the audience with the possibilities of expanded consciousness. Tribal elements pervading but such is their underplayed interweaving the perception of we are one as universal beings, with origins from beyond the horizon, is the only discernible emphasis. CD-ROM track with a DJ mixing program - (yeah I'm not a DJ so this means nothing to me.) 2. Waterdrums - Union Jack 3. Orange - Quarter 1: La Couleur 4. Humate & Rabbit - South 5. Schizophrenia - Schizophrenia 6. Glum - Giallieni I know, you look at the track listing and say that's pretty good. Allow me to pee all over your brand new Air Force Ones. My urination begins with the fact that this is far from essential. Why? Firstly, the vast majority of us already have the most potent tracks numerous times over. Second, it's partially mixed in places thereby shortening the best ones. Gotta be able to fit 12 tracks on a disc somehow right? I think Javelin was well aware of this. Still it is a nice trip down the old school hallway, much the same way it's nice being interrupted by your girlfriends parents when you've almost sealed the deal. What the hell, they were supposed to be gone all weekend, but typical Bill, thought he left the coffee pot on. The great stuff you already know. Tipnotic is written by Infinity Project and it's not bad, short though it may be. Chinese Whispers might be the best Synchro track I've ever heard, but it's also rather short. For my money (didn't pay for this) the good stuff is on the ambient disc. Aside from Waterdrums, I've never heard any of these tracks. Orange is Didier (well didier or didn'tier, sorry old joke) and his track is a lovely mellow thing that I would like to hear while resting in a hammock on the beach. But don't swing me, I'll throw up. South is a floaty ambient composition ideal for dreaming. Schizophrenia was a drone piece that didn't do anything for me and Glum was some oscillating nonsense. Like I said, not essential by any stretch, but I felt worth it for never before heard ambient. Would I pay for it? Uhh, no. Do you know how much music I have on the drives? Gotta downsize, so retreads...they gotta go. Mdk

  22. Graviton is proud to present MECHANICAL LIFEFORM, deep ambient EP made by talented producer Tore Mortensen from Denmark. Tore production skills varies to several ranges, creating mostly positive music with warm feelings, with great groovy and optimistic sounds, he manages to create music with a unique touch, with uplifting moods. But his range follows also more downside paths with reflective and contemplative music. Since the early releases Tore has been faithfull to his unique style, but always pushing new boundaries and experimentations, and the result is the wide spectrum of styles since pure chillout, to more ambient tunes, from psychill passing through chillgressive to even progressive music. 24. Artist: Various Title: Special Places Label: Sentimony Records Date: February, 2012 1. Alpae-3717 - K.D. Expression 2. Camaras De Lamento - CYGNA 3. Dandelions As Memory - CHRONOS 4. Out From Little Box (Astropilot Edit) - IRUKANJI 5. Via Lactea (Astropilot Edit) - AMBIENT INTELLIGENT APPLICATION 6. Port - RABITZA 7. Svoboda - ASTROPILOT 8. Aug - ACCESS TO ARASAKA 9. Disappear - FIELD ROTATION 10. Jewel (Astropilot Edit) - NEXAR 11. A Final Thought - 36 12. A Moment Of Madness - EGUANA What is that....a hockey skate? Or a bunny ridding a sled? Sentimony Records is a label that specializes in psy-ambient and downtempo music that is very relaxing. Based in the Ukraine, they are run by Irukanji and NeiRula. This was compiled by Astropilot and he offers 3 remixes and a track of his own. It's a mix of known artists and newbies, but if it's anything like the dreamy cover I'm all in. Alpae-3717- Lock up your daughters cause here come the Russians! Sergey Yakimov opens things up with a massive soundscape as seen through a huge starship window. The solar atmosphere is well in place as he adds some metallic clanking, but make no mistake, the pads are the star here. With a smooth string and echoing melody we are arriving at our destination. Cameras De Lamento- Been meaning to check out homie's debut in detail, but life has only allowed me to give it cursory listens. It is right in his wheelhouse with a medieval folk vibe complete with big drums and sad melodies big as the Scottish mountains. If you cannot picture Braveheart in this, you haven't seen enough movies. It never gets dull as it switches direction frequently enough to keep you glued. He's even got some guitar that he somehow manages to make it belong. Super. Dandelions as Memory- If you follow downtempo music this man needs no introduction. It's the longest track here and quite easy to get lost in. Smooth for sure and would be perfect for a rainy day as the faraway synth undulates over tumbling water and birdsong. Another one that undergoes several changes so take your time and drink it all in. Out From Little Box (AstroPilot Edit)- Like Dmitry? Well not only did he compile this album, but as I mentioned he delivers a track and three remixes. This is the first remix. Having never heard the original the thing that stands out is the flute which gives it a very Buddhist quality as if I were in Nepal staring at the Himalayas. Goes by quickly even if there ain't much to it. Via Lactea (AstroPilot Edit)- Remix number two please report for duty. It does a great job bringing smooth, floating pads over a chugging percussive set as if the engine of an old tractor was growling to life. Picture time lapse video of a farmer plowing his fields under an overcast sky. Probably has zero to do with the track, but that's what I'm gettin. Who cares, as long as I enjoy it. Port- This duo craft a slowly oscillating track that comes in like waves on the shore as thunder crackles and the rain begins to fall. It hums and droplets fall and create ripples in the sea. Where the f*ck is my hammock when I need it. Svoboda- Glad he decided to add a track of his own. Melancholy piano is just made for a thunderstorm. Not a lot to say about this one. AUG- Rob Lioy (sole American on this compilation) offers up drifting pads along with great effects. All of this = a track that is delicious to the ears. Short though it may be, it is the perfect bridge to Field Rotation's track. Disappear- What did I walk into a funeral? Is this where I lean on the casket for a closer look and it falls to the floor, dislodging the body into a compromising position? Cause that would totally happen to me. This is easily the most mellow track on the compilation. Slow beatless ambient that is suited for looking up at the clouds while so incredibly stoned that they couldn't make enough Funions. "Excuse me young man can you blow me where the pampers is?" Yeah, that high. Jewel (AstroPilot Edit)- This is Nazar Nikolaev and as far as I know this is the only track he released under this project. Never heard the original, but Astropilot gives it his third remix. BTW, he also has a project called Crackle Creations which makes IDM according to Discogs. Very soft and sad piano and strings that conjure up images of Rena Jones. The female vocal is nice, but I'm so fixated on the music I have no idea what she said. It picks up a slow beat and then floats away. Soothing. A Final Thought- Dennis Huddleston from the UK and he has made a short drone track. On it's own I think it would bore me, but in this compilation it fits the pensive mood perfectly. A Moment of Madness- This is Sergey Severin from Russia, but according to his FB page he spent some time in Kentucky. Ah....I come for the education, but I stay...for the Colonel's secret recipe. I have never heard of this individual, but he has composed a track so full of melancholy and sadness that one cannot help but find time for reflection. Was a loved one lost? Beautiful piano piece that would fit right in as the soundtrack to The Ring. Truly special and my favorite one on here. I'm going to have to pay closer attention to this label if they keep releasing stuff this good. It is a drifting and floating parade of sorrowful melodies sad atmosphere. Each track would hold up on its own, but together it creates a aural tapestry. Highly recommended. Beatspace Psyshop Saiko Sounds Goa Store Juno Download Mdk

Such is the lushness of his down-tempo ambience that all arguments, and not just the chillaxing one, wilt to a state of nothingness. For Moka Mafia is another upstanding citizen of the island nation that is Free-Spirit Records, which sits proudly in the middle of the ocean of all things psychedelic, and the EP, Prologue, a fine example of the (other)worldliness he brings to the check-in counter when choosing to transverse our universality. Consisting of three tracks of which there is a consistency in mood and encompassing the diversity of influences that the modern psy-trancer has access to. From dub-reggae to asiatic spiritualism, soothing flute melodies - performed by Alberto "Negro" Ramon - and even some foot stomping havin-it, these and other elements float in the nearness without ever fully taking over so that the listener can be taken to a destination of their own construction. Each one differing according to what they are endeavouring to achieve. But hey isn’t that whole point of chillaxing, to strive for a certain state of being in which an individual can then lose themself? Works for me, how about you try it for yourself! **************************************************************************************************** :: Moka Mafia Bio :: Moka Mafia is the downtempo production project of Sardinian born DJ, Mononegro. He is a self trained pianist and played keyboards in several bands with a varied range of styles including experimental, psychedelic, folk, hip-hop, rock, metal and punk in his native Sardinia from the age of 17. After buying his first Atari computer running Cubase he started writing electronic ambient music on his own and collaborating with other likeminded musicians alongside playing with bands. In 1997 he moved to London and discovered the psychedelic party scene through Pendragon at the Brixton Academy and was inspired by the chill out rooms at parties such as Chichime, Astral Phoenix, Return To The Source and Fairy Tales to name a few. He began DJing in 2003 with his first set at Chichime and he has since DJ'd regularly in the London club and squat scene. He later started collaborating with Alberto, a conservatory trained flutist from Bogota (Colombia), who he met in London while playing at a jam session in a pub with some common friends and began to set up his own studio, once again immersing himself into the writing process. He describes his music style as psychedelic ambient, dub and downtempo. ***************************************************************************************************** :: Booking Opportunities :: We are always looking for quality promoters and production crews worldwide to host Free Spirit CD Release Parties and also Free Spirit Records Label parties.
