  1. Artist: Shehoor Title: Earache Generator EP Label: Terror Lab Industries Date: April, 2012 1. Cryptic Simulacra 2. Malefique 3. Terror Dominion Miss me? I haven't been listening to much music lately as I am working on becoming a better piano player. Since free time is a brief interlude that I may be lucky enough to get I have to fit in during kid naptimes. Ergo, something had to give. But these breaks from the music allow me to come back and listen with an eager appreciation. You can only play Lionel Richie's Easy 30 times before I start sweating like an alcoholic at a wine tasting. By the way, Easy isn't really that easy to play. You gotta have soul. And I gots dat. So here is another twilight artist (no idea who he is) brought to you by the people responsible for such beautiful fairy tales like: Damn, that's just sit by the fire with the grandparents music ain't it? That's just a few. So while they're skullf*cking Mother Goose's rotting corpse, here comes Shehoor with a brief 3 tracker. It's high tech intensity with a futuristic approach. Eerie pads are the backdrop for groovy fast paced bass lines and racing leads. The first track has some cool Matrix-esque cyber sounds in the breaks with plucky acid bursts. Not overwhelming, but entertaining for sure. Malefique is like a nightmarish plunge with lasers and a darkpsy feel to it. Clever effect work gives it some appeal and it gets me thinking of what life in the circuitry of a computer would be like. Sure would make travel easier. I don't think there is a middle finger big enough for the TSA. Wait, hold up.... Mother pus bucket is that real? This is the finger of the doc that just wants to check your prostate. The last track is the least appealing as it is just a straight forward droning track. Still like Meatball said, two out of three...something something.... Beatport Mdk

  3. Artist: Various Title: United Nations of Trance Russia Label: Underground Sound of Tel Aviv Date: October, 2005 1. Dance of the morning sun (Bukara rmx vs G-Light) - G-LIGHT 2. Under Glass - Sulima 3. Story - Biolink 4. Solar System part2 - Zirrex 5. Fullomatic Motions - Hologram 6. Syndrom - Manifold 7. What's Inside Me - Ultratech 8. Neosphere - Neospherix Project 9. Funkadelic - Secret Trick Russia...home of the supreme emperor. And part time balloon animal enthusiast. Defender of the rich he rockets across Russia on a custom built cracker keeping the homeland safe from invasion foreign and domestic. "No commrade...f*ck you." But Russia is more than just Putin's plaything, oh no, it has a lot of good trance to offer. So is this compilation worth your time? Can they put down the vodka long enough to make some good tracks? Dance of the morning sun (Bukara rmx vs G-Light)- We begin with the full-on effort from G-light, who shows a talent for mixing the electronic and acoustic. There's plenty of lasers to go around, so no need to shove. High speed and lots of layers. I liked it, but there was no subtlety...it just kinda all came out at once. Under glass- Alexander used to part of Manifold but now he does his own thing. This was an awesome twilight track with deep rumbling bass and eerie pads. Bubbling and changes of direction are well received. Dare I call this a stormer? Story- This is the guys from Neospherix Project who were boring the crap outta me until around the 4 minute mark when they laid down a nice synth arpeggio. It's a little ravey though. Solar System Part 2- His album Lost In Time is one of the greatest moments in goa trance history. Yeah, I said it. It was recently re-released so I hope you got a chance to check it out. This isn't goa, but twilight. Pretty good too with a bunch of power, acid, and lasers. Another winner. Fullomatic Motions- Never heard of this project but I bet their last names en in ov. More twilight music with metallic leads and a rumbling bass line. It's not bad, but it does this stop thing and then gradually increases the speed. Not for me. Syndrom- "He's got one inside of him...I can smell it." Edward is now running this project solo and he combines horror movie samples with searing leads. He relies heavily on the "what's inside me" sample...maybe too much. Sounds like late 90's industrial EBM at times, but not bad. Dark. What's Inside Me- Shouldn't this have been the name of the last track? This guy hasn't released anything for a while and it's a shame because this is some powerful stuff. Nonstop and unrelenting twilight intensity. Loved it. I did not know you had it like that! Neosphere- What the f*ck are you hanging out on a farm in rural Mississippi? Pigs, chickens, southern black man talking. Then it breaks into a boogie woogie shuffle and I'm thinking this has to be a joke. I like jokes. But this is unlistenable. Funkadelic- Whoever this is could take a dump and record it and it would already be better than the last track. Luckily they didn't have to go that far and just made a track with rampaging synths and layers. Not bad. Some of these tracks are worth checking out. It's definitely in the twilight style. And they seem to hold up pretty well. Saikosounds Beatspace Psyshop P.S. I don't know what's going on with the tracklist at Psyshop. The one I got was from Discogs. Mdk
  4. Artist: Xatrik Title: Badass EP Label: Disasterpeace Records Date: January, 2012 1. Badass 2. Dangerous Conditions 3. Work My Magic 4. In It Holy sh*t. What the f*ck happened here? This the same chick that sang Genie in the Bottle? Apparently there was also a Pizza Hut franchise in there. What the hell was your wish, lifetime supply of cheesy breadsticks? *Puts finger to ear to hear producers* This just in we are going with live video that has just come into us of Ms. Aguilera on a rampage at a New Jersey Nets game. "Oh the humanity! She's insatiable!" Once an incredible talent, Ms. Aguilera now spends countless hours at various drive thrus using the voice to "King Size it" and whining when told she cannot put a frosty on a Wendy's triple. Rumor has it that anyone not making the cut on her team must report immediately to a giant deep fryer where they will be promptly sodomized with a stick so she can snack on you like a corn dog. I have no proof of that, but you know, it sounds perfectly plausible. Xatrik is Greg Hamber from South Africa, the birthplace of the vuvuzela otherwise known as the Christina Aguilera dinner bell. He's back and fatter than ever with his new Fatass EP that promises...I'm sorry? Excuse me, I think I would know...oh sh*t. Badass. Not Fatass. Wow, that uh....that makes a lot more sense. Badass- Typical Xatrik with high speed cyber technology sounds and acid erupting from a sawed off shotgun. The bass line is sprinting like it's on the run from the cops and the groove is intact. It's bombastic and crackling with energy. It truly is badass, but then so Greg's full time job... Dangerous Conditions- "Do you want to live forever?" With a little help from the Qube he continues to shower the listener with acid and heavy beats. It's dark with impending doom as it changes tempo which I wasn't that big a fan of. Minor drawback as this thing gets it's second wind and brings the power with the groove. It rises like a tsunami full of cars, houses, carnival equipment, a couple toilets...you get the idea. Let's just say that it keeps comin'. Work My Magic- "Mr. Fletcher? You don't have to worry about the police...I worked my magic on them" It starts with a slow techno crawl and quickly rounds into form. Bouncing with nod your head goodness he experiments with breakbeats and techno applications. There is a dark melody that hums throughout as bass sounds warble and wobble. But they don't fall down. In it- Man that bass line is like a Godzilla village stomping beast. Or the local ladies at the Golden Corral lunch buffet Ewww....pretty sure the chocolate wonderfall is limited to food. It's a wall of concussive force kicking in the deadbolt and shattering double plated glass. It's a snowball track that gets bigger as it rumbles downhill. Oh yeah, you stepped in it. F*cking punishing. Another quality twilight excursion from the reigning heavyweight champ of the genre. His ability to mix dark vibes with acidic mayhem and groove are unmatched. Work My Magic is interesting as it isn't just a 4 on the floor stomper, but rather a composite of that and some breakbeat manipulation. It sounds great with everything crystal clear and I think he really payed attention to cranking up the funk meter. So there you go. Having a gun doesn't make you badass. Being Xatrik does. 5. Artist: Various Title: Remix-ed Part 01 EP Label: Dropland Recordings Date: December, 2011 1. Damage (Concept Remix) 2. Physical Matters (Sinful Reactions Remix) 3. You Go Banzai (Z3ro Remix) Dropland Recordings is a Spanish label that has been making some noise lately. The two Malfunktion EP's with tracks selected by Mr. Smashed were well worth my time brimming with high energy and powerful twilight music. This EP is comprised of three tracks by him that were given the remix treatment by some heavy hitters in the genre. Damage (Concept Remix)- "Remote controlled creatures. Brains powered by atomic energy." The original was on the Synthetic Alchemy compilation and Arnaud takes an already great track and puts his spin on it. After albums like Paranormal he quickly became one of my favorite artists in the genre. When you stumble upon a good twilight track you can just feel it. The sounds, the bass, the vibe...It's another acid laced beatdown that won't disappoint. Physical Matters (Sinful Reactions Remix)- Sinful Reactions are the Pereira brothers from Portugal and they tackle this awesome track from the Another Dimension compilation. We're really splitting hairs here because this is another acidic firestorm with powerfall beats and a relentless attitude. Just like the original. So I guess some might say, why do we need it? Some might. But they're probably also the ones who ask do we really need more dancing midgets? To which I reply: You bet your f*cking sweet ass we do. You Go Banzai (Z3ro Remix)- "There is no substitute for reading the text of the course and the workbook. Even after you've already done the lesson." Never heard the original but this is Javier Duran from Mexico and his track on Psycho Laboratory slayed all so you know...high hopes. Because I haven't heard the original I can't tell you if this is radically different but what I can tell you is that we've got more of the same bombastic leads and big beats. A little more stopy starty than I would've liked, but worthy of your attention for sure. There have been some good twilight EP's floating around and this is one of them. Are they close to the original? Maybe. Probably. I dunno, but if you like acid firing like shrapnel from a grenade then you cannot go wrong with this. Beatport Mdk
  6. Artist: Overdream Title: Soundprints EP Label: Sun Station Records Date: June, 2011 01 - Land Of Carnivore Plants (146 BPM) 02 - Coven Of Witches (146 BPM) 03 - Ultramarine (148 BPM) 04 - Zurna (148 BPM) 05 - Kaleidoscope Eyes (feat. DubMyDub) (100 BPM) This is a psychedelic trance couple Makus and Dana from the Ukraine. No, I mean they are actually a couple. Maybe they're married, I dunno I don't have that information. Kids? I have no idea. What are you, writing a book? Land of Carnivore Plants- Carnivore plants? That's all we need. Reminds me of Australia. Never been there but I heard that more things are deadly there than anywhere on Earth. Short ride isn't it Mick? Like the bubbling effects, don't like the lead. It's pretty shrill, but they do a nice job of layering with another one to take the edge off. As you would expect the tone shifts towards goa and it then finds its stride. Not bad. Coven of Witches- "This hasn't been my happiest new year. This one's starting off rather f*cking badly." Coven of b*tches. Who's laughing now stupid sorority? You coulda had allllll of dis. *Spreads arms in wide circles* All of it. What's that now? Oh...witches. Well, that's different. More bubbling and scratchy sounds give this a forest feel where alien creatures tread and effects rule. They rain down as they sparkle and churn the thick soup. I liked this one a lot. Ultramarine- With a plucky bass they dive right back into the forest. The darkpsy metallic lead swarms with aggression as the duo begin to layer. It was shaping up to be just another generic track, but the break was unexpectedly fulfilling. They come out all eerie and mysterious with a squirty lead that flies all over the place. Zurna- Hmmmm...this churning fellow seems mysterious. Then the cat-quick lead erupts and scrawls its message on the bark of ancient trees. Sizzling! But not as sizzling as..hold the f*ck up. Could really go for bacon right about now. Where was I? The final frame is where they take a left turn onto the beaches of goa for some time in the sun. Very powerful stuff. Kaleidoscope Eyes- Can you hear the sounds of the forest? It has an ethnic tribal way about it as the breakbeat kicks in. But it doesn't stay there long. It becomes more of a mid tempo jaunt with a vocoded Beatles lyric. Yeah, those guys were no stranger to LSD. Another plus is the constant change in direction. Like the sitar? There's plenty of it here. Sure I coulda done without the Indian vocal, but you might like it. You're funny that way. This track reminds me of the wild and chaotic presentation that you would find in a Shpongle production. First I love the cover art. Seems to portray the ritualistic with a sense of the spiritual. The EP ain't bad either. You've got some forest and goa as well as the dub from the final track. Impressive. As always it's free so I encourage you to check it out for some variety. Ektoplazm Mdk
  7. A lot of people diss psytrance. I don't blame them, especially since the genre "full-on" has tainted the scene with an ocean of watered-down tracks, cookie-cutter basslines, boring melodies, and riffs with no energy. I thought I had divorced full-on, but I found my love again and dug as deep as I could for this mix. I've never played a mix with this much power behind it. When I finished spinning, I felt like my brain had exploded. This is my ultimate full-on mix, at the absolute maximum level of energy possible. I hope some of you are feeling brave.
