  1. Middle Mode Rising Shamans Digital Om Productions Tracklist: 1. Rising Shamans 2. Over Reality Middle Mode is the rare progressive project that immediately grabs my full attention. This Serbian duo are imaginative, detailed and extremely engaging music makers. Of my favorites from these guys, "Click & Fly" is vintage psytrance and a clear indication of the early sounds from where they draw their inspirations. Their co-production with Nerso & Zyce on "Full Moon" is exceptional progressive work with very memorable melodies and soundscapes. Often, though, I've wondered how much better those two excellent tracks could be if the BPMs were raised and the works were brought a bit closer to full-on territory. Rising Shamans shows exactly how the duo fare in the full-on realm, and they do fare quite well, meeting that line between progressive and full-on with their usual assured sound production, never dipping into a moment that is dull or repetitive, always exhibiting a very keen insight into how to keep a track moving along at an engaging pace. "Rising Shamans" is great tribal full-on with progressive touches, a very enjoyable groove works throughout the track while the primal, tribal rhythms are very easy to dance around to. The tribal chant samples are also very imaginative and highly effective. "Over Reality" is a bit more on the reckless side of full-on without ever going completely mental - it's a track that is extremely brisk in its pacing while the ridiculously good synth keys growl with fine full-on power. There are also key moments in the track when the synth becomes lithe and airy harkening back to the vintage days of psy and giving the track a lovely bit of morning vibe among its full-powered energy ravings. An excellent track! The weak point of Rising Shamans is it is only two tracks long. The duo already have several EPs out to their credit so it would be nice for these chaps to get a bit more ambitious and unleash a full-length at some point. However, despite how short the EP is, it is also very educational. It shows these dudes are just as adept at making quality full-on as they are at creating quality progressive. Truly gifted these two are and, incidentally, that album art is fantastic. Great work on this one, worth shelling out the $3.98 Beatport is asking for. Beatport

  3. Desert Dwellers The Great Mystery Black Swan Sounds Tracklist: 1. Warm Desert Sands 2. The Great Mystery 3. Crossing Beyond (ReVisioned) 4. View From Laniakea 5. Our Dream World 6. The Elephant's March 7. Walking Between 8. The Sacrament (ReVisioned) 9. I Dropped It 10. Bird Over Sand Dunes 11. Wings Of Waves 12. Give Thanks Now I'm not sure what past Desert Dwellers album I had heard but it was a while back that I had written this duo off as being too chill, too meditative for my tastes. Even a little too New Age, too floaty, too hippie, not enough groove, not enough edge. To be clear, I have no idea if this American duo have another album out there like The Great Mystery but I would be damned eager to hear it. This one floored me because it redefined everything I had opined about the Desert Dwellers and, more importantly, because it is a truly amazing album. In its very best moments The Great Mystery is superb tribal down tempo with intricate detailing, groovy rhythms and ethereal female vocals. Some of those moments also happen to be immersive and transporting psychedelic music. And all of those opinions were formed before learning of the back story where the duo say to have recorded this mostly on the road, in several different countries, in several different studios, over the course of two years. By any rule of standards, this album should sound like anything but the smooth and near-perfect encapsulation of beauty that it is. Also consider the dizzying number of nine vocalists and instrumentalists employed throughout many of these tracks and the legend of this one continues to grow. As far as the music is concerned, immediately I dismissed the opener and conclusion and "The Elephant's March" in between, all falling into that "too floaty" category. It wasn't until the second or third listen that "View From Laniakea" and "Bird Over Sand Dunes" began to become thinner than the rest. Of the best of the rest, which leaves seven tracks in case you weren't keeping count, there is some gorgeous aural magic to be had, accentuated in no small way by that intricate and gorgeous cover art that seems to shimmer and morph with these sounds. The title track, "Walking Between" and "Wings of Waves" are sweeping and majestic, sometimes inducing hypnosis through its elements, sometimes getting a little grimy with just a pinch of glitch, sometimes just being nothing more complex than utter beauty. "The Sacrament (ReVisioned)" and "I Dropped It" become flavorful doses of diversity, adopting a West Coast style of glitch and bass music that is frenetically effective. "Crossing Beyond (ReVisioned)" is energetic, hypnotic, just a little dirty and pretty near flawless, certainly one of the best of this bunch. However, "Our Dream World" gets top honor here, though it is no easy task trying to pick a favorite, it is simply epic with the vocal melodies weaving spells that are difficult to shake and if this one gets deep into you, chances are you won't want to be rid of it so easy anyway. The Great Mystery is one superb journey and for all of the proclaimed trials and tribulations stated by its producers Amani Friend and Treavor Moontribe that back story also makes it a brilliant one. 10. Artist: Shantifax Title: Complete Tranceformation Label: SarnarSchourt Records Date: March, 2013 01 - Awake (120 BPM) 02 - Aum (90 BPM) 03 - Concrete Combination (100 BPM) 04 - Amygdala on diamonds (130 BPM) 05 - Rudra (138 BPM) 06 - Stone Steps (124 BPM) 07 - Karma Never Forgets (102 BPM) 08 - Be Human (120 BPM) 09 - The Same (104 BPM) 10 - Northern Lights (140 BPM) Wow. That's a big f*cking image. This is Klaus Balzarek with his sophomore album. That is all. Awake is a nice spiritual opener that sets the table. Aum has a dirty hip hop groove like I'm about to go put in some work and catch these fools slippin. Damn it feels good to be a gangsta...But it's hard to feel like a gangsta with that damn Buddhist chanting. Can we do another run through? Concrete Combination has a couple of good beats but I found it much less powerful and a little aimless. The percussion was top notch though. Kinda felt like I was high and things were happening around me in which I had zero control. Amygdala On Diamonds is more hallucinating while sh*t happens around me. Minimal and boring. Maybe if I was high. Unless my reads this in which case you guys are a bunch of drug addicts who need help. Stop trying to corrupt me. Love you honey. Rudra has more chanting. Sense a theme? Exotic instruments fire away in a mid tempo groove which I suppose would be good for meditating. Stone Steps is another tribal ambient offering and I wish the album was a lot more of this. It's lush and full of feeling. Karma Never Forgets - Shoulda used your right foot. Karma never forgets, but I will. And this minimalistic progressive stuff makes it easy. Be Human- See every track here with a beat. The Same- Oprah can't believe you described your whole album in a track title. He finally ends this disappointing album with a hopeful and very positive downtempo piece that sounds very relaxing. Northern Lights sounds like the forest bursting with life after a cleansing thunderstorm. Meh, I was hoping for more. A lot more. When I first heard Aum I thought he was going to combine hip-hop beats with tribal elements, but that's not what happened. He does dip his toes in a lot of genres (progressive and tribal mainly), but it didn't really stand out to me. It just kinda went. The scope is large however with huge pads and a deeply spiritual feel and I believe he excels in the ambient stuff. It just seemed to have more gravitas than the minimally boring stuff. Cue sad price is right music. Free at Ektoplazm Mdk
  11. Artist: Elysium Title: Various Works 1994 - 2005 Label: Self Released Date: March, 2011 Discogs I'm too lazy to list them...there's over twenty. F*cking hell, is everyone named Andersen in Denmark? Denmark's own Kristian Thinning Andersen is a polarizing figure that was the subject of several lively threads here on the forum. Like him or not he's responsible for a big part of our scene's music and was quite prolific. This was released by the artist a few years ago on Ektoplazm, but has since been removed. It's a collection of his work over 10 or so years with music that is tough to box in. Is it goa? Tribal? Downtempo? Yes, all of the above. A digital only release there is a 21 track edition from 2011 and a remastered (what the hell?) 15 track version that came out a year later. One was in wav form and the other in mp3, but most were found on his previous albums. Personally I've never been a huge fan of his style as I think it goes on far too long without sufficient evolution. There are great parts on most of his tracks that unfortunately don't fulfill their potential. But that's just me. If you're a fan than you probably already have a lot of this. If you don't then this is certainly a treat. Even though I didn't like all of it he didn't have to give sh*t away so I would just thank him and stop being an ungrateful b*tch. By the way, I'm super keen on hearing his newest album that is on the way. Mdk
  12. Artist: SoulQuark Title: Slow Tachyon EP Label: Neogoa Date: May, 2013 1. Nitrogen Narcosis 2. Soul Bruise 3. Tāne Mahuta 4. Celestine Language 5. Lost In Frozen Dream This was released by Neogoa around the same time as the Goatree EP and while a review thread was started pretty quickly for that EP, Slow Tachyon has been largely ignored. Why? I'm looking at you hippie. Yeah, you. Is it because it's not goa in the sense we are used to? Too ethnic sounding? It's definitely different, full of chopped up vocal chants and beat patterns not usually seen in today's goa trance. So it's not goa. What it is though is melodic and deep with emotional feeling and a tribal essence. Nowhere is that more evident than in Soul Bruise with its battle of the bands like percussion. Celestial Language is a downtempo track that is brimming with electronic wonderment. With plenty of well placed soaring vocal phrases there is a strong spiritual component. Lost in Frozen Moment is another track that slowly ascends the mountain top while also being symphonic. This wouldn't be out of place in a big budget Hollywood soundtrack. Or God willing a Bollywood production. Throw away your preconceived notions of what this is and what box it should go in. Unless you have a box labeled moving electronic music. Yeah it would fit in there. Get on this if you're looking for something outside the norm. Free at Ektoplazm Mdk
  13. Hey guys. Can anyone recommend me any real tribal psybreaks? Most of the psybreaks i found are definitely NOT psy. If for instance you listen to the Broken Robot records (they themselves as psybreaks) - they are in fact just a normal breaks breaks, neurofunk and all that robot slyle music. I'm looking for tribal, ethnic, shamanic psy groove. So hard to find real one... This direction i'm talking about: https://soundcloud.com/ra-djan/ra-maayan https://soundcloud.com/mettakin/vodun
  14. Artist: Rob Vector Title: The Future Songs of Old Label: Self-Released Date: January, 2013 01 - The Triumph Of Saint Lucy (86 BPM) 02 - Bastardized Beat Soup (105 BPM) 03 - Real Church (93 BPM) 04 - Tundra Sunrise (86 BPM) 05 - Nameless Gnosis (90 BPM) 06 - All I Got (101 BPM) 07 - Wizidry (93 BPM) 08 - Tundra Sunrise (DeeperNET's Nomadic Remix) (86 BPM) If you like lots of ethnic instruments with head nodding trip-hop beats and chants then look no further. But instead of weighing heavily on your sinning soul, this is good time music. If I close my eyes it could sound like an outreach by Moby. The tracks are real short giving you a taste without becoming bored. A nice mixture of electronica and real world instruments. The title suits it perfectly. This guy has got funk in his veins and uses choirs better than Enigma ever did. An interesting and solid release. Free at Ektoplazm Mdk

  18. Xnorophis - Eyes Album: Eyes Artist: Xnorophis Genre: Tribal, Progressive Size: 185MB License: CC Price: Free and Donations Track List: 01 - Multi-Coloured Angles 02 - Jungle Paradise 03 - Seeds 04 - Step Inside 05 - Organic Saints 06 - Fabel Keepers 07 - Violet Tower 08 - Ganga Sparkle 09 - Oblong Roads 10 - Torpedo 11 - Cilandra's Test Take a seat inside an intergalactic time machine and get ready to be taken back in time in this percussion driven tribal elemental. Starting with a very minimal tone, the simplistic hand-crafted loops are placed neatly together side by side to form an African-like soundscape. Interesting enough, the composition takes place in Canada, yet nothing in this piece reminds me of Canadian styles. As neat as all this may sound, the minimal style in the beginning is, well, very minimal. The first six songs progress with small percussion and bass loops switching off and on rather than melody, layering synths, or pads carrying layers to create a musical body. The first half of the album should be left out, in my opinion, because each song is more of a backbone to a bigger, broader idea. There is no meat to them, no intricacy, no unexpected visions, and they just are not all that interesting. There is a lot of room left to grow and a lot more expected. Don’t let that fool you from giving this album a try, however. At track 7, Violet Tower gives us that body we have been craving. Vocals are added, pads begin to carry the vision further into broader horizons, and arping melodies similar to the Goa roots of Psytrance are brought forth to put together a final frontier of passion the artist begs to express. A true tribal experience, however, should let me close my eyes and imagine an organic landscape full of sun and open fields. I want to imagine wonderfully painted patterns on the faces of distant cultures, people dancing around large bon fires as the smoke climbs towards the white dotted sky, the moon screaming a blanket of twinkling blue light into the hearts of the earth, and I want it to sound amazing. This album doesn’t do that, but the last few tracks certainly get closer to that accomplishment of pure tribal engulfment. The tracks Violet Tower, Oblong Roads, Ganga Sparkle, and Torpedo are the definitions of this album. They combine the ideas and techniques from every other track and turn a small idea in a better experience. The tippety tappety of the small drums, the Goa bass line, the progressive style, the hint of vocals, and an additional trance melody with more layers of instruments make these tracks great. To the artist, I think if you were to simply take out everything else and leave these in, it would make the album better. Quality over quantity my friend. My advice would be to take a look at these creations and form your future projects based on what you have learned from them. Try to examine different drum lines, instrument programming, and tribal atmospheres to take advantage of our minds and run them through an organic soundscape. Right now, a large portion of the album is generic. Focus on expansiveness, yearning to create a land that only you know into pure sound where we can escape and relax. Keep it up man!! If you want some inspiration, listen to the Steve Roach album “Strata”. The first few tracks are largely tribal ambient, taking your percussion inspirations you love and adding astounding atmospheric explosions of euphoria. I can see you taking a faster pace than this without the ambient style, adding intricacy to your work. 7/10 Download here on Ektoplazm (MP3, FLAC, WAV) - Review by FatKidWitaJetPak (Nick Sumbles) - Special Thank to Ektoplazm for the download bandwidth.

  22. Hello, we are Zombster Recs (https://www.facebook.com/pages/Zombster-Records/218995584853621), a brand new record label (we have founded it less than one week ago) that alongside commercial electronic is mainly intended to focus on the psychedelic side of things, like psytrance and ambient goa; http://soundcloud.com/mothership-loudspeaker/ajayil-perpetuous-traveler Here we go with our first promo, it's a track from the randomnly-named psybient project Ajayil, that focuses on the organic side of things, relying on eastern drum loops and ultra-reverbered melodies and arpeggio, providing an intersesting sonic texture perfect for relaxing and meditational moments. It's in free download, so why don't you give a try and let yourself float?
