  1. Kadasarva - Steamagination 2011, Released by Sun Station Records 01 - Kadasarva - World Of Tomorrow (145 BPM) 02 - Kadasarva - Quaternion (144 BPM) 03 - Kadasarva - Cybermind (145 BPM) 04 - Kadasarva - Trylon And Perisphere (143 BPM) 05 - Submatukana - The Krypt (Kadasarva Remix) (142 BPM) 06 - Kadasarva - Ginger (147 BPM) 07 - Kadasarva - Quakers (144 BPM) 08 - Kadasarva - North Pole (143 BPM) 09 - Kadasarva - Amrita (144 BPM) My favorite sample here is "Rachel, Kids, I'm sorry...", apparently from System Shock 2. I like it not only because it isn't from just another movie (or from one of those movies which are so common in our music), but also because it points to the vision the artist had. The steam punk theme is obvious from the album title of course, but I think it is admirable when there is a theme, or a vision, to be found at all, since most albums, of any genre, appear mostly a collection of good-enough-tracks; although for any competent artist, they will follow a singular individual style, theme or not. The style of "Steamagination" is an interesting fusion of several sounds. Someone called it a throwback to the, so-called, good old days, but frankly I'm not sure that I have ever heard this sound in completeness before. There is a bit of Koxbox here though, I find. There are also plenty of gritty percussions that often sound great, some very tasty snares. The melodies are pleasing, never sublime, but always elegant and are not relied upon to carry the tracks. The second half of the album becomes a bit darker, a bit more chaotic; rhythm and darkpsy-like patterns become more important than melodies, in some of the tracks. My favorite track is "Cybermind"; this thing is a beast, it twists and turns into and out of melodies and funky screaming rhythms. Overall this is one of the most interesting and unique releases of the year for me, and it should appeal to lovers of all up-tempo psychedelia. Here is a score, because scores are fun: 4.5/5 Available for free on Ektoplazm http://www.ektoplazm...-steamagination
  2. Stereofeld – Frequenzwechsel Album: Frequenzwechsel Artist: Stereofeld Genre: Progressive, Trance, Morning Label: Sun Station Records When: May 2013 Size: 183MB License: CC Price: Free and Donations Track List: 01 - Zwirbeldrusenfunk 02 - Frequenzwechsel 03 - Earthbound 04 - Extraterrestrial Technology 05 - Tuning In 06 - Wormhole 07 - Hypnotad 08 - Atmospheres 09 - Cuba Libre (with Bart A.B.E.) Be taken aback a few years on a funky road trip through the Stereofeld cosmos. Celebrating nearly three decades of electronic music, this beautiful and danceable treat uses highly original and addictive techniques. Get ready to be swarmed with euphoric funk lines, melodic craftsmanship, and dreamy sound worlds. Enjoyable, solid grooves blow up every second into a colorful arrangement of echoing euphoria. Loving, warm sounds completely take everything underneath a ceiling of space-like instrumentations and perfectly placed vibrating wonders. It is quite the experience, taking any listener on an intensified and incredible journey. Combine the classic engulfing days of arpeggiating Goa with funkylicious basses and progressive trance elements, and "Frequenzwechsel" is born. It is nothing but quality, as expected from an Sun Station Records release. Spectacular! Every step is an incredible one, different from the last. It is impossible to grow tired from a theme in this album, because new themes are used all the time. Thick layers of sound are always present, going in and out at a wonderful, enjoyable pace. Atmospheric ambience is done so right, especially in "Earthbound". (with audiophile headphones I hear slight crackling in bass at the beginning, hardly noticeable but I recommend the master guy relook that beginning. I am only saying this because I want to hear this album used everywhere. Sometimes you have to be extremely nitpicky) The synths are managed with style. The artist pays close attention to the timing of everything, making sure to bring in what is needed. Nothing is ever overdone. Nothing is ever underdone. Its brilliant. The pads silently but surely build a landscape for me, taking me into a completely different world as mentioned above. Close your eyes and take a trip into a pure, talented, clean experience. This album really speaks to me. I think the best club music out there not only moves but encompasses. The way each gooey, chill vibe sneaks into my brain has a certain feeling that makes me want to get up and smile. I want to move all night long, surrounded by friends. This is something that needs to be played in clubs. It needs to be played at parties. It needs to be played everywhere. This could make a really fantastic live experience, and I will be looking for a performance from the artist. I don't care how long of a road it is to get there, I am going. This music can bring people together! It represents the spirit of every raver, with love in every beat. It isn't just music. It's an art form. It's communication. Feel it. Enjoy it. This album really is something else entirely. Download here on Ektoplazm (MP3, FLAC, WAV) - Review by FatKidWitaJetPak (Nick Sumbles) - Special Thank to Ektoplazm for the download bandwidth. 10/10
  3. Artist: Algae Bloom Title: The Blossom Label: Sun Station Records Date: November, 2013 01 - Stop Thinking (130 BPM) 02 - Nothing Is Static (130 BPM) 03 - Healing Drum (with Stereofeld) (132 BPM) 04 - Cloud Walker (130 BPM) 05 - String Theory (130 BPM) 06 - Everyone Is Invited (128 BPM) 07 - Alga Tinge (130 BPM) 08 - Thank You (130 BPM) 09 - Weirderer (132 BPM) I listen to a lot of stuff, but there is no way I can get to it all. That's why recommendations are so helpful. I would've walked right past this release if a kind soul hadn't asked me to give it a listen. Thank you kind soul. Because this is one release you shouldn't miss. Ukrainian Max Kurushyn has delivered something special here he refers to as daypsy. The progressive trance is very detailed and melodic not unlike something you would find from the major labels. There is no wasted space just sounds in every measure that surround you like a warm blanket. Danceable at times with some tactile layering. I would say it's an album that doesn't have any tracks that are head and shoulders above the rest or ones that you'll never forget, but the overall quality and depth is extremely high. The flow is continuous with well timed breaks that are lush and organic. This is one of those albums that I'll put on with the intention of listening to one or two tracks and the next thing you know I'm sucked into digesting the whole album. Again. Like progressive trance? You need to hear this. Free at Ektoplazm Mdk
  4. Artist: Pan Psychic Title: We Are Not Who We Are Label: Sun Station Records Date: January, 2008 1 We Are Not Who We Are (8:42) 2. Bioware (6:27) 3. Vishnu Avatars (8:57) 4. Night Vision (8:42) 5. In Suspend (7:05) 6. Moscow (6:04) 7. Pan Psychic & Shytan - Picnic On A Roadside (6:34) 8. Pan Psychic & Shytan - Ozone Cloud (6:02) 9. The Last Reality (5:55) 10. Moscow (Remix) (6:57) 11. Zemliane - Trava U Doma (Pan Psychic Remix) (5:20) I love free stuff. Really? Just...right up your dress there? I used to think that you get what you pay for, but Ektoplazm has shattered that myth. That site offers so many gold nuggets for the price of belly button lint that it has become dare I say invaluable. I don't always have the dough I want to spend on CDs so he has become a daily stop along my internet travels. This is the debut of Pan Psychic, but really more of a best of their tracks from 2002 - 2007. Never heard of them except for In Suspend which was on the glorious Human Hyperactivation back in the early days of new school goa trance. They hold the distinction of being the first trance act outta St. Petersburg and I don't mean the one in Florida. The Russian one has standards. Unfortunately this also appears to be their last release. They either decided to pack it in or Putin heard them talking about gay sex. There is something for everyone here from acidic goa trance to the darky darky stuff. Not only that, but they switch styles in the same track. Bioware is soaked with delicious detail and has a little bit of darkpsy and twilight. The title track and In Suspend are quality goa tracks while Ozone Cloud has a drum n bass feel. The Last Reality is a slow churning downtempo piece. Now I'm not gonna piss on your leg and tell you they are all stellar tracks because they're not (please keep your Russian folk music outta my psy thank you). But this project does showcase their versatility. Also it came at a time where goa wasn't released with the frequency that it is today, so the excitement was there 5 years ago. Still it's worth a listen. So what are you waiting for? Scrape all of that belly button lint outta there and head over to Ektoplazm. Free at Ektoplazm Mdk
  5. Artist: Overdream Title: Soundprints EP Label: Sun Station Records Date: June, 2011 01 - Land Of Carnivore Plants (146 BPM) 02 - Coven Of Witches (146 BPM) 03 - Ultramarine (148 BPM) 04 - Zurna (148 BPM) 05 - Kaleidoscope Eyes (feat. DubMyDub) (100 BPM) This is a psychedelic trance couple Makus and Dana from the Ukraine. No, I mean they are actually a couple. Maybe they're married, I dunno I don't have that information. Kids? I have no idea. What are you, writing a book? Land of Carnivore Plants- Carnivore plants? That's all we need. Reminds me of Australia. Never been there but I heard that more things are deadly there than anywhere on Earth. Short ride isn't it Mick? Like the bubbling effects, don't like the lead. It's pretty shrill, but they do a nice job of layering with another one to take the edge off. As you would expect the tone shifts towards goa and it then finds its stride. Not bad. Coven of Witches- "This hasn't been my happiest new year. This one's starting off rather f*cking badly." Coven of b*tches. Who's laughing now stupid sorority? You coulda had allllll of dis. *Spreads arms in wide circles* All of it. What's that now? Oh...witches. Well, that's different. More bubbling and scratchy sounds give this a forest feel where alien creatures tread and effects rule. They rain down as they sparkle and churn the thick soup. I liked this one a lot. Ultramarine- With a plucky bass they dive right back into the forest. The darkpsy metallic lead swarms with aggression as the duo begin to layer. It was shaping up to be just another generic track, but the break was unexpectedly fulfilling. They come out all eerie and mysterious with a squirty lead that flies all over the place. Zurna- Hmmmm...this churning fellow seems mysterious. Then the cat-quick lead erupts and scrawls its message on the bark of ancient trees. Sizzling! But not as sizzling as..hold the f*ck up. Could really go for bacon right about now. Where was I? The final frame is where they take a left turn onto the beaches of goa for some time in the sun. Very powerful stuff. Kaleidoscope Eyes- Can you hear the sounds of the forest? It has an ethnic tribal way about it as the breakbeat kicks in. But it doesn't stay there long. It becomes more of a mid tempo jaunt with a vocoded Beatles lyric. Yeah, those guys were no stranger to LSD. Another plus is the constant change in direction. Like the sitar? There's plenty of it here. Sure I coulda done without the Indian vocal, but you might like it. You're funny that way. This track reminds me of the wild and chaotic presentation that you would find in a Shpongle production. First I love the cover art. Seems to portray the ritualistic with a sense of the spiritual. The EP ain't bad either. You've got some forest and goa as well as the dub from the final track. Impressive. As always it's free so I encourage you to check it out for some variety. Ektoplazm Mdk
  6. Artist: Astropilot Title: Emptiness EP Label: Sun Station Records Date: November, 2011 1. Emptiness 2. Emptiness (Flucturion 2.0 Remix) 3. Emptiness (Dream Stalker Air Mix) Russian label Sun Station Records releases a free EP by Dmitry V. Red'ko who at least for 2010 has been extremely prolific, dropping 4 albums in that year alone. Tells me that he had a lot of material stored up. My favorite was Solar Walk as he crafted some really beautiful ambient. He is known for his downtempo goodness, but this is a progressive track along with two remixes of the same track. Let's see how it goes. Emptiness- It's the type of progressive that is full steam ahead without any changes in it's foundation, but the effects give it depth. The break is really spacey with choirs, cold electronic computer blinking, but it's really short. Makes me feel like I'm alone in outer space and nobody is coming to rescue me. Emptiness (Flucturion 2.0 Remix)- Same style of progressive with different effects. It actually seems a little bit more alive. Sparkles more. It pulsates and shimmers in a more understated tone. Liked it a little better. Emptiness (Dream Stalker Air Mix)- "Our bodies are given life from the mist of nothingness." Ah, but Dmitry saved the best for last. The sample adds a futuristic and mystical air as it chugs along with bass sweeps. The break is reflected sunshine on chrome on a winter's day slowly bringing warmth where there was none. It bubbles and whines with more outer space samples and liquid sounds as it coasts to a conclusion. This is a nice little EP and an example of how remixes are supposed to be different than the original, yet still maintain some of the character of that original track. It's churning progressive that sounds very good loud and is easy to get lost in. Is it the best progressive I've heard? No, of course not. But it ain't bad at all. Couple that with the price (zero. zilch, nada) and you've got nothing to lose. http://www.ektoplazm...pilot-emptiness Mdk
