  1. Artist: Lauge & Baba Gnohm Title: Daybreak EP Label: Soundmute Recordings Date: March, 2014 01 - Memories (80 BPM) 02 - Southern Hemisphere (80 BPM) 03 - Daybreak (feat. Mikkel Govertz) (80 BPM) I wrote this review back in March so excuse the hell out of me if it's a little dated. Seriously. What. The. F*ck. Where's the motherf*ckin' grass! Freezing my cottontail off! The calendar says Spring, but Mother Nature continues to give us the finger and thinks we need some more winter. Punxsutawney Phil has long been drawn and quartered as the sky dumps another deluge of cold, white powder. My wife hates the stuff, but I love it. It's quiet. Peaceful. Pure. This just came up on Ektoplazm and I'm sure glad it did. The Danish downtempo super duo is known for dreamy atmospheres and slow beats. The first release from them is no exception. Originally out in 2009 this can be warm or cold, but it is always pensive and guides you donw melancholy memory lane. Memories is like a fresh rain for a new starting point. Southern Hemisphere's slow groove puts the listener on a journey across space where a lonely astronaut strums an acoustic guitar. The final track Daybreak is a prog rock dreamscape with delicate piano twinkling amidst analog synths. What a great ep. Smooth, beautiful, dreamy downtempo with character. Thumbs way up gentlemen! 2. Artist: Chronos Title: Space Sweets & Logical Beats EP Label: Soundmute Recordings Date: December, 2011 1. Free Falling 2. Space Cake Nikita Klimenko is back with a short 2 track EP. Those of you well versed in the downtempo arena are no doubt already familiar with the work of this project. I thought it was just Nick, but Discogs tells me that he now has a partner. Of course whoever entered this EP gave credit to three guys that sound like they head up a Mexican law firm. Steps to the Great Knowledge from 2007 was quite good and their collaboration with C.J. Catalizer on Quid Est Veritas was even better. Their new album Ispirational Power is out now so it's on my list. What? He just released a two part album this year? Prolific somebody isn't he? One thing I noticed is that the cover is the same as Inspirational Power, just a different color. So I guess these are two that didn't make the cut. If they were on the album, I would've felt pretty stupid paying for tracks that are on an album I plan to buy anyway. Free Falling- Is a high speed outer space track with synth arpeggios flying over fast percussive tappings. When the kick arrives things seem to slow down as we land in a green lush forest that is wet with dew. Melodic and relaxing even with the rapid tempo. Space Cake- When you distort a vocal sample in that manner, you cannot help but feel that we are in a futuristic cyber world. Love it. A world where new technology meets old world spiritualism. Effects all find their place behind the melody lines and fit together seamlessly as the dubby bass pounds away. There's a lot to listen to in a Shpongle type of way. Enjoyable, but almost all of his music is. Layers and melody with oodles of atmosphere. Really can't wait to listen to more tunes by him. Beatport Mdk
  3. SMR037 - Paul Harbor - Insert Yourself LP/Album Hello Dear friends, After short break we continue with series of Soundmute digital releases. The next one is something special for us and something that our label didn't taste it so far in this form. Actually, with this one we have decide to take a challenge, ether way it's not 100% what we release, we made an exception cause this is the music we like a lot. Hope you will enjoy too. This is one of the two soloproject of Andreas Lingbrand. The idea of the Paul Harbor project started in 2005 and was a fusion between Chillout/BreakBeat and Jazz. The debut album ”Insert Yourself” took some years to do and there was many things that interruptded the producing (most of them was good things). At a very eary age Andreas got hooked on drums, beats and rythms. He started to play drums himself in school at the age of ten but since he had no chans to have his own set, the time for practice shrunk as the time went by. The music of Paul Harbor is the way for him to live out the hibernating drummer inside. Also it´s telling a story about the variation of the music that reflects the very life itself. It is about Paul Harbor, very talented young musician who is already known to chillout and techno nation with his releases based on two of his projects, Paul harbor as chill artist and Palida as techno artist. The second solo project of this guy is called Pallida and has just been started to release music at Horns and Hoofs Entertainment. This is the techno/trance project that has been lurking for 15 years. Hopefully there is other out there who might enjoy this psychedelic techno. For some of the fans of chillout music, Andreas might be known already. He is one half of the duo called Yggdrasil and the first album Prose Edda, got a very good respond from the friends in the chillout scene. Together with his fellow companion Mathias Eriksson the second album are about to be finalized so stay tuned.... New chill, jazz, lounge and ambient album on market!!! Stay tuned for Palida new EP on Soundmute later this spring. Title: Insert Yourself LP Artists: Paul Harbor Label: Soundmute Recordings Style: Ambient, chill, jazz, dub...
