  1. Artist: Various Title: Ex-Gen - The Bankai Remixes EP Label: Dropland Recordings Date: March, 2013 1. Bankai (Mesmerizer Remix) 2. Bankai (Geko Remix) 3. Bankai (A-Mush Remix) 4. Bankai (Brain Driver Remix) Usually when you see a beatdown of this quality it ends with news cameras, a jury trial, and Jesse Jackson mumbling something about civil rights. "Get those people back now!! NOW!!!" We are all Trayvon Martin. "What kind of sadistic f*ck..." The lifeless husk filling the chalk outline is your inhibitions and self conscious feelings about people watching you dance. Forensics tells us that the murder weapon was a combination of lethal amounts of acid and pummeling bass lines. Witnesses say they saw 4 perpetrators beating the victims mercilessly with repeated blows crippling the fears in the wee hours of the morning. "I haven't seen mayhem like this since the Xatrik Baddass mutilations." These criminals are known to the authorities with all four having been involved in serious crimes previously. "Aw christ...the vic sh*t his pants." Put out an APB for the suspects who should be considered armed and dangerous. Under no circumstances should you approach them if spotted. We believe A-Mush to be the leader who is known for excessive violence and psychotic behavior. If anyone asks if you want to see his Bankai please alert the authorities immediately. We've already seen one dance floor massacre. "I said get back, now!!" Beatport Mdk
  2. Artist: Various Title: Consequences Remixes Label: Nexus Media Date: February, 2013 1. EMP Remix 2. Infektion Remix 3. Tryon Remix 4. Zezia Remix 5. Kill Theory Remix 6. Ecstarsis Remix 7. Phsiris Remix 8. Overthrone Remix Chris Hoy (Nexus Media head and acidic psytrance veteran) has been laying down the good twilight madness for over a decade with several albums to his credit. Lately he released the OMG EP (where this track originates) and it was the slamming style he is known for. I must admit that I'm a sucker for that aggressively melodic South African sound that seems to always take the music in a new direction. When I review a remix album or EP it helps to hear the original so I can hear how the remixes differ. I have the original, but I think it would be helpful to include it on the remix EP because some might not. Guess if you're a fan you already have it, and if you aren't yet...well seems like a good way to get you to buy 2 EP's. Touche Mr. Hoy. Unlike the OMG EP he invites other artists to have their way with his track. How dirty yet alluring. Actually there was a competition to remix Consequences and the winner was EMP. The original is short by psytrance standards, but it's laden with chunky acid and those eerie melodies. The first three are wonderful body movers in the typical SA style. Pumping, rhythmic, and layered with clever sample manipulation. I don't know who Infektion is, but his use of acid and the Fifth Element samples had me at D-Man! The Zezia remix is a bit less edgy and I'll be honest I'm looking for something a little different in a remix at this point. Kill Theory slows things down breaking it into its elements, but at almost 10 minutes it's a rambling mess that never seems to end. The Ecstarsis mix seems to play a little more with the dubstep sounds, but the Pulp Fiction sample comes off as a little cheesy. Not bad though. Phsiris...hold up. Is this the bacon fellateurs? It's not bad with a dreamy feel braced by a breakbeat. The final mix is the shortest, but also the most dubstep heavy of them all. If you like that style you'll love this as it did a good job of melding the eerie melody with the abrasive robotic metal dry hump that is dubstep. All in all pretty good. The strongest tracks are in the beginning, but I believe that if there had been more variety in the remixes I wouldn't have been burnt out on the track as I was. Even Bill Murray had a breaking point before he cold cocked Ned Ryerson in the face. Beatport Mdk

  5. Artist: Terrafractyl Title: A Speck of Dust Label: Kinematic Records Date: March, 2013 1. Thoughts of Mind 2. Retribalization 3. Care to Join Us (Vs Launchpad) 4. A Speck of Dust 5. Machinery of Nature http://kinematicrecords.bandcamp.com/album/a-speck-of-dust Terrafractyl is a name synonymous with the Aussie morning psy scene, and one that every self respecting doofer knows well by now. Over the last decade or so he has been pushing forward his own unique blend of melodic morning psytrance with hints of jazz and extreme doses of psychedelia, all tied together in a funky musical and uplifting way. Following up from the success of last years Electronic Evolution, Felix Greenlees brings us this five track EP - A Speck of Dust.. At once evoking images of the vast expanse of space in an all too distant universe, A Speck of Dust continues right where last years Electronic Evolution left off, perhaps taking things in a slightly different direction for those with discerning ears. From the opening notes you are instantly transported into the familiar Terrafractyl world filled to the brim with psychedelic intricacies just waiting to be explored by the intrepid traveller... A Speck of Dust is a journey in and of itself. The first track Thoughts of Mind is a true to form Terrafractyl masterpiece that will send any listener on a trip through inner space.. Wasting no time it kicks off with a funky bassline and intricately reverberating psychedelic leads that weave their way through the audio spectrum. Some perfectly placed samples reignite the track halfway through as some deft percussions work keeps things flowing nicely until the climax. 7/10 Retribalization is an absolutely stellar track that captures the imagination and sends the mind reeling and the feet stomping. Some of the most psychedelic sounds of the album flow throughout as Felix’ audio wizardry shines through. Perfectly pitched leads guide the listener gently through the vast landscape while a funky beat underlays the whole thing throughout. 8/10 Care to Join Us is a slightly darker track starting with a beautiful sample and growing to a crescendo at its peak that has a break and vocal samples that will send any dancefloor into a frenzy. 8/10 The title track, A Speck of Dust is a prototypical Terrafractyl track, continuing with the theme of human evolution and our not too distant future. Big basslines and funked out sounds all the way through, with lush piano lead melodies spiralling and swirling throughout. 8/10 The last track The Machinery of Nature is more progressive in style, with a gentle and building flow, reminiscent of some of Felix’s other projects almost, but with the distinct Terrafractyl style. 7.5/10 Overall this EP flows gradually and precisely through an almost dark vaccuum of humanity, possibly some of his “darkest” tracks yet, in the context of Terrafractyl at least. It takes a peek at our coming future, the hopes, possibilities and dreams as we truly enter the electronic age. From classic style morning tracks to more progressive, almost Hypnagog like sounds. A Speck of Dust is a beautiful aural journey and one of my favourite Terrafractyl releases yet, and thats saying a lot. Overall: 8/10
  6. My first Psytrance music festival was one of the greatest experiences of my life!! There was a huge and diversified culture, tons of intricate glowing artwork, and some of the best music I have ever listened to. I met a lot of incredible people, camped for two nights in the middle of the forest, and discovered new horizons. I will DEFINITELY be going to more! Thank you so much Atrium Obscurum, you guys are incredible. Here in Arkansas, it is VERY rare to come across such delicacies. I have never heard this kind of stuff in person... It was so amazing. Check out the video I made about the event here: If you are anywhere near Texas, they throw one at least once a year and I highly recommend it. I also bought some psytrance gear for decorating my walls.
  7. Artist: Main Sequence Star Title: Archaea EP Label: Ovnimoon Records Date: April, 2013 1. Archaea 2. Archaea (Nova Fractal Beat Mix) The busiest man in psytrance (other than Zyce) is stretching his creative muscles yet again with another side project. Renato Brnic is the mind behind Nova Fractal who most recently released Fractal Landscape and his compilation The Call of Goa to superb results. It's a two track wav download that is more outer space psytrance than goa. The first track is very atmospheric and deep with lots of layers above a breakbeat rhythm. He then remixes himself and makes a good track...gooder by making it more hypnotic. It's only 3 bucks at Beatport and I would say if you like his previous work, money well spent. Beatport Mdk
  8. Artist: Enichkin Title: "The Ride" Artwork & Design: Ayalien (http://ayalien.deviantart.com) Genre: Mental Trance Format: Audio CD / Jewel Case Length: 71:51 min. Enichkin and Mind-Expansion Music share this knowledge with you, because they consider it as the ultimate expression of their gratitude to people and forces involved into the spiritual evolution of humankind. 9. Artist: Various Title: Transitions In Trance Label: Ovnimoon Records Date: November, 2011 1. Minimal Session - HAGGEN 2. Floating in the space - PROTOACTIVE 3. Aftermath 11 - MAN MACHINE 4. Crystal - NERSO 5. Energy of life - OVNIMOON 6. Orbiting - WIZACK TWIZACK 7. Organic Interface - PSILOCYBIAN 8. Dark Tale - SPIRIT ARCHITECT 9. DNP2 - HYDROGENERATOR 10. Why can you control time - BODHI TREE I know quality when I see it. Awe.some. Whether Hector Ovnimoon is performing or running a label his work is of very high quality. What's not to love? The music emanating from this guy is layered and melodic, thick with atmosphere and psychedelia. And now he's got a sub label for goa trance? I might just have to give him my credit card to keep on file. I almost missed this release, but eventually it got the attention it deserves. Minimal Session- "Leading medical researchers on youngsters have shown that marijuana is the most dangerous drug." Said every old white man who wished he had tried it in his youth. Ever. The opening track is minimal in structure, but that's where the similarities end. Gooey and bubbling sounds come to a frothy head making it seem fuller than your dad's minimal. Nothing spectacular, but a good opener. Floating in the Space- Protoactive is Allen Feytor and he's come up with some great tunes. Leaving the minimal landscape behind we are now hiking in wide open melodic progressive country. Bass sweeps and synth layers are the order of the day. Changes in time happen smoothly with this one. Aftermath 11- There is a definite robotic feel to this track and I mean that in a good way. Crystal- One of the leaders in the progressive scene Nerso needs no introduction. His distinctive echoing style is on full display as sounds bounce off each other. There is a darkness here as chunky leads tumble over each other like water molecules. Super. Energy of Life- El jefe delivers a track that now climbs into psy-gressive territory. Aggressive along with juicy sounds and goa tendencies. He's got his foot on the reverb pedal and it ain't coming off anytime soon. Deep pads and a sh*tload of atmosphere. This is the soundtrack to outer space. Outstanding. Orbiting- "Tell us how to get back to Earth, I beg you!" No, no really...the key, th-the key is right there! It's already in the ignition. You don't have to...that's not how you jump start... *sigh* If you see Wizack on the track list you know things are gonna get psychedelic. Known primarily for his dark side this is perhaps the leas dark track I've heard from him. Crazy leads though, and I hear some 303's in there which makes me smile. Organic Interface- "I know this is gonna sound crazy, in fact this is kinda crazy, but what if the object was symbiotic in nature. Just say that it wasn't entirely mechanical, that it needed some type of organic interface." Sasa Dukic is one of the best psytrance producers out there not to mention a helluva nice guy. His albums Dreamtime and Brain Dissolver are exactly what psytrance should be. That opening sample and what he does to it sets the tone. Cyber juicy leads are everywhere with a sinister backdrop. The short break brings in a new lead all the while keeping in pumping. Dark Tale- More psy-gressive that takes you in. Not as deep as the other tracks, but not bad. DNP2- I wasn't aware that this project was still active. Surprise surprise. It's full on psytrance now with the darkest track yet. And boy are they giving the business to Tokyo Electric. Why Can't You Control Time- They end this ride with a psychedelic downtempo track that is anything but relaxing. High speed percussion and a thumping kick hammer the point home. Great compilation and in a time when a lot of labels struggle to do one thing very well, this one does it all very well. Anyone who has read my reviews knows my dislike for minimal, but they even made that seem interesting. With strong and melodic progressive trance the ride is a good one full to the brim with effects and psychedelia. Highly recommended. Psyshop Beatspace Goastore Mdk

  16. Hey there, wanted to share how I mix psytrance. My approach is different than the traditional way of mixing one track into another linearly. It's more like a mashup, where I try to layer two or more tracks at the same time and also I get to decide when to create a build-up, when to throw a break, etc. Hope you like it and I'd like to see more psy djs going crazy in the mix, instead of the same old boring intro/outro transition. Thank you, Namaste!

  19. Mmm so we are more than halfway through the year and there has been a heap of great releases so far. I'm sure I've missed out on some so share your top five so far and we might all discover something we have missed or that has slipped through the cracks! Mine: 5. Texas Faggot – Tranz toilette / Rytmimystiikka - If you like their style you probably already have this 4. U recken - Light At the End of The World - Full on/Prog in the typical U-recken wonderfully polished style. If you like his other stuff well..u know. 3. Trold - Time for Solution - An album I have been waiting a long time for, full on style but not typically. Trold has a certain charm for me 2. Dimension 5 - Transstellar - Of course. The best goa release so far for me this year. 1. Terrafractyl - A Speck of Dust - My favourite release so far this year, only five tracks but a really nice journey through them.
  20. Artist: PharaOm Title: Shelter 10 Label: Future Disorder Recordings Date: April, 2013 1. Welcome To Shelter 10 2. Inside the Core 3. Meeting Roy and Chip (Interlude) 4. Laser Highways 5. Anti-Gravity Module 6. Biomechanical Civilization 7. The Bucky Biospheres (Interlude) 8. Back To Titan 9. Nanosurgery I love science fiction and fantasy. Movies, books, comics...if that makes me a nerd then so be it. I've made an active effort to stay away from video games because that's a black hole of time into which I would surely plummet. Today things are different. It's not like it was when I was a kid. Now it's cool to be into "graphic" comics and as long as Hollywood keeps making millions on superhero movies you'll still see men running around in tight underwear. As well as the nerds who love them. PharaOm is Oswald Pfeiffer who recently released the remixes to his track Cellar Door as well as the very good Tesseract album for free. He's right back at it with more free music. Shelter 10 is a digital maxi EP that attempts to redefine what goa trance can be. Seemingly never satisfied with the status quo this album rides the space theme to a human (and extra terrestrial) colony that is filled with futuristic sounds, industrial machinery, as well as storming goa riffs. Jam packed I tell ya. There are even two interludes, one including two bickering robots. Corny yes, but it's all a rich tapestry. This is a great mixture of psytrance with goa elements that include experiments in dubstep that work very well. He closes things out with a competent downtempo track that attempts to put Humpty Dumpty back together again after some limb loss in the robot conflict. Story time. My favorite track has to be the blistering Biomechanical Civilization that just shreds anything unlucky enough to cross its path. The biggest step outside of the box has to be Back on Titan with its brief singing and out front guitars. But he balances it out with symphonic strings and more space goa. To try to expand ones mental capabilities is a right and, possibly, almost a must, in order for personal, spiritual and societal evolution to occur. Psychedelic = Mind expansion, altered consciousness or a type of Mind "delirium" If anybody tries to mess with your mind through whatever means they are violating the basic right to Psychedelic Freedom. This can be done in several ways like: TV brainwash, subliminal advertising, dis-information, artificially induced post-traumatic stress, deliberately induced stress of any kind, non consented intake of mind inhibiting psycho pharmaceuticals (like the chlorine in the drinking water), or any other activity that willfully induces a delusive inner (or outer) world view on a fellow sentient living entity. We are all perfectly entitled to remain loving, content and peaceful within. ABOUT THE ARTIST Qubenzis Psy Audio aka Ricky Mard, originally from Sweden is the human power behind the Qubenzis Project ! 22. Information : Artist : Phobia Title : Adaptation Label : Tactic Records Date : 24 June 2008 Genre : Psy-trance Tracklist : 1. Misconduct 2. Third Stream 3. Mix Shake 4. Grind (Phobia Remix) 5. Plant Yourself 6. Adaptation 7. Night Parade 8. Culture Hall 9. The Rite of Spring 10. Counter Point Review : Phobia, the psychedelic trance project (Don't confuse it with the drum n bass artist), made one, and only one Album, called Adaptation. It has not reach a high succes, however it does not remove anything to the great quality and to the amazing tracks of this album. The most known track made by Phobia is surely Turbulence, which one isn't include in this album. Let's have a further look in this album ! Miscondust : The first track of this album is just A-M-A-Z-I-N-G ! It start with some Piano notes and finish in a whole symphony ! On 1:08, Phobia give the song it's kick and bassline. Fast come background sounds and melodies. The song grow up, than come a break, and so on. All that is greatly done, but the best is coming later. At 3:08, you can clearly hear the main melodies coming up, and on 3:25 the whole stuff is just released. Waouv ! Amazing melodies, never heard such thing in any other Psychedelic trance song. It seriously sound like a Mozart melody, in a modern way, under a psychedelic form. At 4:24 come a break, but fast the main melody come back, this time it sound differently than before, and I've to say this second part of the song is a little bit disappointing. I mean, it's still good, going with build up and break, it kept the great melody, but it isn't as good as the first part of the song. Well anyway, how could Phobia throw it better than he did in the first part ? Anyway, a great song, for sure the best of the album, and one of the best Psychedelic Trance song I ever heard ! Third Stream : The song start with some strange sound, but then come the great bassline with nice kick. Everything is building up and on 1:27, Phobia just release all that to give the song a nice dynamic. Later you can hear a sample and some background sounds. I personnaly like it, it give this song a nice atmosphere, not as deep as an Atma song, but still phobia is doing it well. However, the melodies are less present than it was in the previous song. You have to wait until 5:27 to be able to hear the main melody. But then, it come, and ooh boy, it come very nicely, growning up slowly but surely ! And on 6:00 the whole stuff is just droped. Pretty good song, however the main melody could have been more worked. Mix shake : This time Phobia starts it with a melody, and than the song is growing up. In this track, voice samples are used a lot. I like how Phobia edited the voice samples and played with it during the whole song. Sur, it's not as good as how Infected Mushroom does it, but it's still nicely done. On 2:17 come the bassline and kick, and for sure everyone aren't going to like it, however I do. With the voice sample that come then, it just give this track a nice rythmic. On 3:59, you can hear some acid sounds, which actualy fits well with the song. And at 5:17, you can clearly hear the main melody. Very nice, sounding like if Mozart made it, seriously ! And than Phobia add the bassline, and everything is greatly growing up, with another melody in background. At 6:10, the song is clearly taking another dimension, playing with the melodies, giving the whole track a great dynamic and power. The basslines aren't exceptionnal, it's quite basic bassline, but the melody are greatly done, you can feel that Phobia worked a lot on them. Another great song ! Grind (Phobia remix) : This is a remix of the song "Grind", made by Tactic Mind and Loud. This track sound differently from the other one of the album. It has a darker Atmosphere, with a heavier kick. The song isn't very interesting until 3:23 . Until there, except nice edited voice samples, there's nothing extraordinary. But on 3:23, the song is growing up, and on 3:35 it's just amazing ! Very nice bassline and kick. Another big break, and the whole thing is going on again on 5:15. Nice background melody and nice growing up stuff ! It's on 5:44 that the entire thing is just droped. That's nice, but not as good as in the other track of the album. Overall, a correct track but far away from the first one ! Plant yourself : Again, some voice sample, growing up stuff, and at 0:55 come kick and the nice bassline. As in the other song, background melodies and some acid sounds are used to build the track up. I don't like much the background sound on 2:31, that doesn't sound very well, but except that, there's not much things to say : the track is nicely builded up, but it miss of something big, with a great melody, at the middle of the song. But it's at 5:00 that the song is being great. a voice sample come with a background melody - which is slowly growing up, until reaching it's higher point. And on 5:42, you can hear an amazing symphony, a great combinaison realized with kick, bassline, snare, hat, melodies and spacy sounds...Something that, again, I've never heard in any other Psychedelic Trance song, except in the other track of this album. A good track, but why do we have to wait so long to realize that the track is so amazing ? Could be better if the first part of the song included more melodies ! Adaptation : Another song with some good melodies ! However, in this one, except the good melodies, there's nothing that stand out of the track ! It's still nicely going on, with good ascents and break, but the track isn't amazing. Not a bad song, but the worse one of the album. Night Parade : The song start with a strange sound, I don't really like it. Then, as for the other track, come the kick and bassline. It's not bad, but it's a bit getting repetitiv. I means, the bassline isn't amazing, backgrouds effects sound are still made of good quality, but there's nothing exceptionnal. But the "second" part of the song (I means after the big break at the middle of the song), at 4:20, changes everything. It's slowly but surely growing up, using a voice sample from the famous film "8 Miles" (I was watching this film the other day, when suddenly I heard someone speaking in the film, and my brain was like "Oooh I already heard that in a psychedelic trance song !"). And on 4:59, Phobia is giving all the stuff he got, to give this track a great dynamic, with nice melodies and background sounds. But here again, why do we have to wait all this time to be able to hear this nice builded up stuff ? So, not a bad song, but I would say that the first part of the song isn't very good. It's in the second part of the song that things are good ! Culture Hall : This song contains some french samples, which you do not often hear in Psychedelic trance song (Except in some Jaia's song). It uses nice effects and background sounds, but as for the other song, the first part of the track isn't very amazing. It's when come a big break, at the middle of the song, and especially when everything is dropped, at 4:39, that this track is getting awesome. At 4:39, there's a very nice bassline with nice melody going on in background. At 6:25, the song reach it's higher point. This is at this moment that the whole symphony is going on, with good kick and bassline, awesome background effect and a great melody ! A good track, but the first part of the track still need few improvements. The rite of Spring : One of my favourite song of the album, because you don't have to wait the middle of the song to hear something exceptionnal. During the whole song, Phobia use edited voice samples and some melodies to build up this great track. On 1:56, by example, the voices samples goes very well with the rest of the song. I've to say the kick is very powerfull and the bassline is quite good. Sure, that doesn't sound like any other psychedelic trance track, but this is also what make this track so original and pleasant to listen. There is always something different going on. By example, at 3:17, a nice melody grows up in background. There isn't any moment where you find it repetitiv, Phobia always give you something awesome to listen. On 3:56, it's just amazing how the melody sounds good ! Counter Point : Here we go with last track of the album. Another song with many melodies, accompanied with nice bassline and kick. I've to say that at the beginning of the song, it contains the melodies that I do like the less of the entire album. It's correct, but it could have be better if the melodies were simply different at the start. However, this sound like something fresh in the psychedelic trance genre, something that I've never heard before, and this contribute to make this album so particular. In the second part of the song (starting at 5:30, slowly building up and going to a very nice melody !), you can hear a very nice melody with nice background sounds. And on 6:09, you have another great symphony, with amazing melody, later accompanied with samples that fit it very well. A very nice track, not one of the best of the album, but still a good one ! Overall : Adaptation is definitly an amazing psy-trance album ! Every track sounds like not any other psy-trance track does, which make it very fresh and pleasent to listen. Almost every songs contain incredible melodies, with great ascents and break, leading to awesome symphony ! Just damn it that for a lot of track, the second part, when everythings stop and when come a big break and then when the song build up again, is the best part of the song. Often, the first part only lay the foundation of the track with the kick, the basslines and some backgrounds sound. A lot of track could have been better if the main melody were use since the start of the track to build something big. The first track of the album is a great example : since the debut of the song, you can hear the main melody, but it's only at the middle of the song that you hear this melody at it's best point, when it's totally developped. Sure, it's also a question of personnal taste, and everybody aren't going to be agree with my opinion, but this is one of my favourite psychedelic trance album. I never ever heard such symphonies in any other Psychedelic trance song, that what make this Album so good. Best track : 1, 9 Worst track : 6 Rating : 9/10 To buy it : Psyshop Discogs Amazon
