  1. Artist: Koan Title: Serenity Side A Label: Blue Tunes Chillout Date: March, 2017 1. Before Fullmoon (Serenity Mix) 2. Ferryman (Serenity Mix) 3. Arousal (Serenity Mix) 4. Appearance (Serenity Mix) 5. Herald (Serenity Mix) 6. Gradual Fall (Serenity Mix) 7. The Catch (Serenity Mix) 8. Overpersuasion 9. Peak Lady (Serenity Mix) 10. Bait 11. Helpless 12. Veiled (Serenity Mix) 13. In the Maze of Diamond Rocks (Serenity Mix) 14. The Light of Sleeping Star (Serenity Mix) 15. Hidden Princess (Serenity Mix) "I have something for you." Is it weed? Please tell me it's weed? I could really use some weed right now. Yes indeed just gather your girlfriends, spark an owl, and just chill to the uber laid back sounds of the Russian duo Koan. With this digital release you can just feel the stress of the day evaporate. This is my definition of chill. Slow, relaxed beats with atmospheric pads interspersed with electronic flutterings. As the title implies, it's all very serene with chopped pads and layered percussion. The mellowness cannot be overstated and you just might have to scrape yourself off the ceiling. 2. Artist: Maiia Title: Shining Dragon Label: Mystic Sound Records Date: March, 2017 1. Tale About the Shining Dragon 2. Princess From the North 3. Natural Energy (Album Mix) 4. Maiia303 - Electric Particles (Maiia GoaChill Remix) 5. Microcosmos (Instrumental Mix) 6. Fusion Age (Album Mix) 7. Eastern Saloon 8. Strawberry Lassy (Album Mix) 9. The Great Bear (Album Mix) 10. Kurbeats - Phony Phony (Maiia Remix) Yes, very interesting. This is Alla Vagner who should be familiar to all who frequent this forum based on her 2014 release Sky In Diamonds on Ovnimoon Records. It was a pleasant surprise and a breath of fresh air to hear the organic sound melded with goa trance. Sure it 's been done before, but man did she do it well. She gets right after it with the goa tinged breakbeat track Tale About the Shining Dragon and Natural Energy. I believe that she is the female equivalent to Hardfloor. Funky breakbeats layered with that saucy 303 riding shotgun. It's truly body moving music with eerie tones layered over top. Mysterious at times, but always engaging with plenty of tribal affects. Check out Strawberry Lassy...lots of Shponglese going on there. She keeps the tracks relatively short for maximum freshness. While not as eye opening as Diamonds, it nonetheless doesn't fail to impress. Mystic Sound Records Bandcamp
  3. Artist: Saluberrimae Title: Time Is A Flat Circle Label: Neogoa Records Date: March, 2017 01 - Trapped Inside (95 BPM) 02 - Jesenné Prebúdzanie Do Letného Rána (80 BPM) 03 - Jennifer Connelly (80 BPM) 04 - Time Is A Flat Circle (70 BPM) 05 - Loophole (70 BPM) 06 - The Abyss (95 BPM) 07 - Čiernobiela (70 BPM) 08 - Frozen (110 BPM) 09 - Večerná Ciga Na Balkóne (80 BPM) 10 - Gestonkenflapped (70/140 BPM) "I had a dream last night when I woke up, I remembered it but...just a moment ago...huh. It's gone" The downtempo/psychill side project of Lukáš Bartošek (Goatree) is a nice mix of dub, chill, and ethnic music with real instruments. There is so much to unpack here with a bunch of great ideas. A lot of the tracks have a repetitive phrase which brings a sci-fi feel as if big brother is watching. Very mechanical and sets the stage well. The title track is a pensive thinker that exhibits a slow, hypnotic burn. Loophole has a slow awakening like a beast being preparing for a strike. Čiernobiela has a post apocalyptic feel with a ponderous hip-hop beat. Reminded me of NIN Reptilian. Frozen turned into an industrial influenced crawl with a very throaty 303. Was that a bit of Southern guitar licks on track 9? Felt like a hot summer day on the Mississippi delta. So what it does, it does well. While I liked the ideas unfortunately a few did not realize their potential. Either there wasn't enough evolution or the great bits didn't last long enough. The jazzy elements in tracks 2 and 3 just weren't for me. It's good music and I like where he's going, but for the above reasons it misses greatness. But just.
  4. Artist: Psychedelic Quest Title: Morning Trip Ep Label: Timewarp Records Date: March, 2017 1. Morning Trip 2. Crystal Moon 3. Lunar Circles 4. Crazy Forest Dude....where are the f*cking cookies? That's how this short digital ep from longtime producer Leonidas Giotis makes me feel. The sound is great, but it is what I term new school stagnant. It finds one groove and rides it all the way home. It's got a very happy and uplifting sound, but man it just doesn't go anywhere. All the tracks have similar arpeggios and feel a hell of a lot longer than they are. Sorry, but I cannot recommend this one. Far too weak on depth and details. Timewarp Bandcamp
  5. Artist: Various Title: 10 Years As Free Spirit Label: Free-Spirit Records Date: March, 2017 1. Cylon & The Wayfarers - Castles Made of Love 2. Invader - Twelve Sessions 3. Ital - Ganesh 4. Hypnocoustics & Alta - Diesel Story 5. Tron & Journey - Funktion Juan 6. Braincell - Network 7. Earthling & DSP - Kiss the Sky 8. Savage Circuit - Which Way Is Anjuna? 9. O.C.D. - Sense of Knowing "Have you felt it?" Yes, it feels like I just took two Tylenol PM with a side of propafol. So bored. Who took the psychedelic out of psytrance? Full-on beats with few exciting or even nap rousing moments. Twelve Sessions was eleven too long and I think if Ganesh was listening to Ital's track he would tell him he left the f*cking sequencer running. This generic, same sounding, patch sharing music is like punching a steak. There is no feeling. As you would imagine the best track here is by Braincell with his juicy, liquid sound, but expecting one man to save this narcoleptic compilation is like expecting Trump to save democracy. This should come with a warning label not to operate heavy machinery while listening. Beatport
  6. Artist: Mindsphere Title: Mental Triplex - Mindream Label: Suntrip Records Date: March, 2017 1. Solitude 2. Circle Sphere 3. Seclusion 4. Fate 5. Orientelic Genetic 6. Serenity 7. Respiratory 8. Reformation 9. Far Away About a year after his last album Presence, this limited edition partially mixed CD is the second installment of the Mindsphere Trilogy. Of course you can also buy the digital version which is unmixed. Joske described it as "Drony, sometimes warm, sometimes cold, floating and here and there exotic!" And I would say that is a very apt description. Mindsphere is Ali Akgun and he is one of the premier names in today's goa trance scene. Solitude is a deep space ambient track that seems to have some Jean Michel Jarre influences. Dark and cold. Circle Sphere continues the futuristic and electronic cold of deep space. There is more motion with the inclusion of multiple melodies amidst a digital wash. Louder with more gravitas and drama yet still without a kick to be heard. Seclusion has an ominous air and the first hint of percussion, perhaps the booming of the sound barrier as the space craft leaves the atmosphere. The melodies are melancholy and bring to mind an astronaut on a solo mission thousands of miles away from home. And here is where I detect some Vangelis influence. Fate is a purely drifting vehicle. Ambient bliss that increases in intensity, but never loses that floaty feeling. Orientelic Genetic sounds like a word salad, but it's when his goa begins to shine through. It's also the first real, perceptible "beat." The flute is mysterious and the entire track resembles some Khetzal production. Downtempo goa trance that becomes quite busy. Serenity is just that, tumbling melodies and soft, gentle sounds that are well suited for catching a nap. Much like I did when listening to Tangerine Dream back in the day. Respiratory is another downtempo track that has a soundtrack feel to it. It's grand and many layered. Maybe a movie about a war where people pilot Mech Warriors. There is a tinge of regret here. The weird thing is the "supposed" ending where the music stops and then a new strain appears. Perhaps that transition could've been smoother. Reformation is probably my least favorite track on the album. It doesn't fit with the style of the rest of the album and feels like a mish mosh of sounds above an oscillating sine wave. Far Away fittingly ends on a beatless note. Unfortunately the track doesn't have the same verve and depth that a lot of the others had. It just kind of...is. It's gentle yet doesn't tell any story. At the 6 minute mark it leaves the flighty style and changes completely, resembling the atmosphere of most of the album. And without any subtlety. This is such a relaxing experience. I literally felt my blood pressure dropping as I prepared for hypersleep. A large portion is beatless ambient and I can see why Suntrip went with a limited edition for this release. It's not everyone's cup of tea, but like others have said it's very lush and floaty. Dude clearly has talent. However I felt the album failed to maintain its theme near the end and the quality and mood suffered because of it. While I found it enjoyable I would recommend people to give it a good listen to find out if this is what they're looking for. Suntrip Bandcamp Suntrip Shop
