Perpetually Delayed Voyage (Konektiv Mix) Jannis Tzikas is a pillar in the goa trance community and a major reason for its resurgence and continued popularity. His album from 2004 Sky Input was musical napalm and just what was needed at the time. Also it was the first release from a then fledgling Suntrip Records. Hard to believe it's been 13 years. This little ep came out before Filteria's last album Lost In The Wild and is interesting as it consists of a goa track and then two progressive remixes of that track. Released by a label with a long history it's available in digital or a Cd-r format. Although I don't know where you would get the Cd-r as it doesn't seem available at the Lost Language site. Perpetually Delayed Voyage is in the vein of his last two albums fluid with smooth melodies instead of the chaotic bombast with which he burst onto the scene. The Sonic Entity mix retains the goa flavor of the original yet spreads it out over something you might hear from Iono or Ovnimoon. The Konektiv Mix has a housey feel; close and connected if not a bit dark. Enjoyable. Beatport

Venusian Illusion 8. Decoder 9. Stardust "Seen from out here...everything seems different." There he is! I found fat Waldo! Unless you've been held captive in a Yemeni prison for the last few years you heard and hopefully purchased Mark Dressler's return to the scene Time Travel. Awesome album that is so highly recommended that it was with renewed interest I decided to check out his Early Daze. It's a digital only release comprised of tracks he released back in the day on labels like Matsui, Psychic Deli, and Phantasm before that label descended into a meteoric pile of sh*t. Now if you were to peek at my early days I'm sure it is filled with moments that are not ready for prime time. Yeah I had a bowl cut. And I had feathered hair as a teenager. Gimme a break it was the 80's. Some f*cked up sh*t went on back then. Anyway all the tracks here were released on compilations or his own EP's so slow your roll we didn't discover any hidden gold. Well, I'd never heard Kinetic Space Dilation before and I don't believe that one was released anywhere. I haven't heard his latest stuff (3 or 4) so I cannot compare this album to those. But I have heard and loved Time Travel. And this isn't that far off from Time Travel. I think this release is for Mark's fans (I am one) and those who want to support the artist. As I mentioned almost all have been released on his ep's and comps which I'm certain you freaks already have. The sound is unmistakably goa with screeching leads and bubbly sounds (Terraform, Liquid Lifeform) attaining high levels of psychedelia. Initiation rages with whiplashes of fire and Decoder has that post golden era goa sound laced with psychedelic sounds. If there are any weak moments perhaps you could include the overly long and steady Zones, but most of the tracks bring psychedelic goa right up front. Nice one. Nervasystem Bandcamp

Artist: Radioactive Sandwich & Globular Title: Sorbet For the Soul EP Label: Omnitropic Date: March, 2013 01 - Globular - Lemon (97 BPM) 02 - Radioactive Sandwich - Lengo (97 BPM) 03 - Radioactive Sandwich - Mango (95 BPM) 04 - Globular - Mamon (91 BPM) Mix dubby beats, glitch, reggae vibes, and a healthy dose of vocals chopped and manipulated behind turntables and you've got an ep that can out Shpongle Shpongle. It certainly is a busy digital ep with lots of sounds thrust upon the ears at a frenetic pace. An interesting concept where both artists began with the same sounds and built their tracks. Globular did Lemon and The Sandwich created Mango. They then traded tracks and made their reinterpretations. The tracks are good and if you like that style then you will love this. The combination of an ethnic feel and funky rhythms is infectious. My favorite tracks are Lemon and Lengo with their slow downs that don't lose any smooth appeal. Sometimes it can get garbled as they attempt to sonically wring all they can out of the vocals, but that's minor. Get to downloading, you won't be disappointed. Free at Ektoplazm

Artist: Shantifax Title: Complete Tranceformation Label: SarnarSchourt Records Date: March, 2013 01 - Awake (120 BPM) 02 - Aum (90 BPM) 03 - Concrete Combination (100 BPM) 04 - Amygdala on diamonds (130 BPM) 05 - Rudra (138 BPM) 06 - Stone Steps (124 BPM) 07 - Karma Never Forgets (102 BPM) 08 - Be Human (120 BPM) 09 - The Same (104 BPM) 10 - Northern Lights (140 BPM) Wow. That's a big f*cking image. This is Klaus Balzarek with his sophomore album. That is all. Awake is a nice spiritual opener that sets the table. Aum has a dirty hip hop groove like I'm about to go put in some work and catch these fools slippin. Damn it feels good to be a gangsta...But it's hard to feel like a gangsta with that damn Buddhist chanting. Can we do another run through? Concrete Combination has a couple of good beats but I found it much less powerful and a little aimless. The percussion was top notch though. Kinda felt like I was high and things were happening around me in which I had zero control. Amygdala On Diamonds is more hallucinating while sh*t happens around me. Minimal and boring. Maybe if I was high. Unless my reads this in which case you guys are a bunch of drug addicts who need help. Stop trying to corrupt me. Love you honey. Rudra has more chanting. Sense a theme? Exotic instruments fire away in a mid tempo groove which I suppose would be good for meditating. Stone Steps is another tribal ambient offering and I wish the album was a lot more of this. It's lush and full of feeling. Karma Never Forgets - Shoulda used your right foot. Karma never forgets, but I will. And this minimalistic progressive stuff makes it easy. Be Human- See every track here with a beat. The Same- Oprah can't believe you described your whole album in a track title. He finally ends this disappointing album with a hopeful and very positive downtempo piece that sounds very relaxing. Northern Lights sounds like the forest bursting with life after a cleansing thunderstorm. Meh, I was hoping for more. A lot more. When I first heard Aum I thought he was going to combine hip-hop beats with tribal elements, but that's not what happened. He does dip his toes in a lot of genres (progressive and tribal mainly), but it didn't really stand out to me. It just kinda went. The scope is large however with huge pads and a deeply spiritual feel and I believe he excels in the ambient stuff. It just seemed to have more gravitas than the minimally boring stuff. "Get those people back now!! NOW!!!" We are all Trayvon Martin. "What kind of sadistic f*ck..." The lifeless husk filling the chalk outline is your inhibitions and self conscious feelings about people watching you dance. Forensics tells us that the murder weapon was a combination of lethal amounts of acid and pummeling bass lines. Witnesses say they saw 4 perpetrators beating the victims mercilessly with repeated blows crippling the fears in the wee hours of the morning. "I haven't seen mayhem like this since the Xatrik Baddass mutilations." These criminals are known to the authorities with all four having been involved in serious crimes previously. (7:31) Arguably the most talented current goa producer Filipe Santos returns under one of his many aliases: Pandemonium. His first album stirred up some debate here on Psynews (http://www.psynews.org/forums/index.php/topic/53445-pandemonium-muinomednap/) and he seems like quite a combative character in general, upsetting a few people here recently. He promised a release of a lot of his old tracks as far back as 2008 and said it would be different to his first album, and here it is! Anyway, let's forget the man and move onto the long-awaited music which is all that matters: Squid (In The Nautilus Mix) It certainly is a very fast and fun opening track. Uses the signature Pandemonium flute sounds (as the god Pan would have used) and exciting basslines. Really frenetic energy like most of Filipe's stuff. When you think the track is going to slow down but a snare kicks in again at 2:56, it makes me smile - this is what I love about this guy's music. Some lovely subtle 808 rim shot samples too. Wishing Machine For those of you complaining that the last Pan album sounded too similar, we already have a lot of variation here. This sounds more like Lost Buddha's Tabernacle track (which is outstanding). It's got a whiny Eastern melody which really reminds me of a particular oldschool track but I can't think which one. Everything builds up to a spiritual climax, with the Eastern melody asserting itself at the finish. Bazaar of Dreams That's right. A tiny intro then straight into the action. This is pure nitzho influenced joy, with the bassline going up and down, supporting the hyperactive high frequency melodies. All the work around 4.47 and beyond is just beautiful. Hold Us, Mother Gaia This one is too cheesy for my tastes and reminds me too much of Filipe's track 'Little Indian Girl' as Rama. The Rama track is better. Cotton Candy (Dreaming Mix) Great use of the 808 and chime-like sounds with subtle pads to create a mysterious atmosphere. So many elements are being juggled here that you'd have to be well... crazy to deal with it all. Nice stereo dynamics. In fact there may be so much stuff going on here, that it's difficult to keep up... Hypno-Baby A sample of a baby crying for a couple of seconds is all the intro we need and we're straight into the action. Some very nice use of delay in this track, and I feel like we're back in the realm of excellent tracks. The sounds here are much more metallic and I love the tight snare. Guaranteed to get you moving. Shidapu - Power of Celtic RMX A plaintive melody and overdriven guitar provides the body of this song, taking the original, which was one of the first tracks to try to integrate guitars and goa (I think) and updating it to the Nitzhonot genre. Could be emotional or quite annoying depending on where you sit. I like it. Agneton - A New Hope RMX We know this track from Pyramidal Trancedance and it's as great now as it was then. That melody around 4.49 ... yesss! It's the way that the bassline sounds terse, but when that melody comes, it fits so perfectly into the bassline that all tension is relieved in a danceable frenzy. It's a Magical Garden Again, starting guitar sample really reminds me of something, can't place my finger on what. Maybe all these similar goa melodies are screwing up my mind. No, wait! Skip to 2.55 in Amithaba Buddha's Myself in the Mirror track and you'll see what I mean. This whole track sounds like a friendlier version of that one. It's okay, not a stand out here. Zathura (Throw the Dice!) Again we get the Tabernacle acid hook and some lovely bassline notes with some great percussion. At a slower tempo this really gets me tapping my foot, giving those growing acid melodies time to slowly evolve and work their magic. Yes, the bassline is just sadistic. And Zathura was a terrifying film! So I have to agree with some that a lot of Filipe's output sounds very similar. But I don't care! It's great stuff and I want more. Artist: Flicker Light Title: Shamanic Journey EP Label: Maia Brasil Records Date: March, 2013 1 - Who Use This Drugs (128 BPM) 2 - Glandula Pineal (134 BPM) 3 - Mental Evolution (135 BPM) 4 - Shamanic Journey (133 BPM) If you mix minimal + progressive trance + darkpsy you get this. Well...not much progressive trance. They were not kidding when they said this had heavy basses. Sh*t will knock you over. While I liked the dark atmosphere and the nosebleed inducing bass you gotta give me more if you're going to assault me with your extended track times. The galloping bass and darkpsy noise gets to be monotonous and it just devolves into 39 minutes of the same thumping bass sounds rumbling in the night time. Love the cover though. Artist: Flembaz Title: Magic Mint EP Label: Blind Arc Date: March, 2013 1. The Playground 2. Magic Mint Feat. Filipe Teixeira 3. Bridging Time Who the hell are these guys? Kudos to Ekto for hosting this EP. The sounds are crisp and the melodies...wow. The Playground puts you in the streets of Delhi with a beautiful sitar melody that's as fresh as daisies. So wonderfully ethnic, but far from predictable. It's not often that I praise the guitar in our music (read never), but the one on Magic Mint felt as if it were being played right next to me. Common threads are the warm basses and the clarity of the production. Even with all this atmosphere it is eminently danceable and thought provoking at the same time. Excellent job! Drop Of Water MENOG 10. Object 008 SULIMA What's this? A new Timecode compilation? Interesting. Excuse me a sec... Hell. Yes. The grandfathers of South African psytrance are back with their latest offering for all the twilight acid heads out there. For years they had set the standard for nighttime melodic darkness and catapulted their distinct sound into the ears of eager listeners. With their 30th release the track list is impressive put together by Tickets himself. And by the way he is on half the tracks on this thing be it as Tickets or Android Spirit. Open Water- "Just relax and let it go. Don't f*ck around. Just do it." Mr. Summs comes right out swinging with Hujaboy on the first track with that uneasy feeling the label has worked so hard to perfect. The whole "you done stepped in it now" vibe is ever present and hints at the wrong turn you may have just made. Good opener. Power of Six- This is a relatively new artist to the Timecode fold, but it seems like he's gonna fit right in. Lasers, acid, and atmosphere. Would've liked a little more power and chaos, but not bad. Welcome To The Zoo- Tickets has been getting away from the strict 4 on the floor stuff of his Timelapse album and becoming more theatrical and dare I say complex. Oh he'll still bring the heat and all his laser goodies, but even though he's getting more detailed it's missing its power. Good, but I find myself missing his chaotic monkey poo flinging acid ways. The Doctor- "At the end of the day I would feel like I was a legal drug pusher." Holy sh*t where the hell have you been? Probably having a great life gettin' high and banging multiple hot chicks at the same time you lucky bastard. Sounds like my life...you know minus the uh, drugs and multiple hot chicks. Oh, and you probably make way less trips to Wal-Mart. Nice to see you still use two scoops of acid in your psytrance. Good track. April 2nd 1968- I like the bass line in this one, its got oomph. Synth lines roll out amidst the firing of many lasers and it's just gathers momentum as it progresses. Expect The Unexpected- Nah I expected this track to blow and sure enough...It's more techy with a lot of percussive sounds as well as an extended break that is on par with wisdom teeth removal. By a Wal-Mart greeter. How the f*ck did this make it on here? Plastik- My main man Earworm from the US! Never, and I repeat, I have never heard a bad track from this guy. Lasers and acid rips erupt like you're in the middle of a firefight. The basses are warm and there are plenty of sounds to keep you busy. Great track. Kiffen- Lasers and a good groove keep this one hopping. At times floaty but more often than not bruising. Keep coming back to this one makes me want to dance. Hmmm...the wife's on call so... Worst. Harlem shake. Ever. Drop of Water- "As men busied themselves about their various concerns they observed. They observed and studied." Not one of Morgan's more stellar samples, but let's face it he could narrate what you had for breakfast and it would attract an audience. Daniel Bernardo needs no introduction as he's been doing the acid thing for quite some time. There was some dead space in the track early on, but he more than makes up for it with a blistering acid explosion. Good track. Object 008- Closing things out is Sulima whom I thought was a dakpsy guy. And he may be, but he ends this compilation rightly with pumping rhythms and several twists and turns down a creepy hallway. Good stuff. While this doesn't come close to their heyday back in the 2000's it's still pretty good. They represent the twilight sound with some very good tracks that will surely get you moving. Still scratching my head about that Lemurians track as it just didn't fit with any of the other tracks on the album. Oh well, like I said there's plenty of other acid laden goodness to consume. Pop Art is the psy-gressive side project of Indra, one of the leading names in watered down commercial full-on. And it seems he brought his bag of tired, uninspired tricks to the progressive genre for a full album of stuff we have tried to avoid. It's a tough task and not everyone can do this. Osher from Ananda Shake comes to mind as one of the successful ones. But this? Do you love repetitive and annoying samples? Me neither but, this guy does. Simple bass lines? Disc is full of them. Cliche sounds that make you cringe? Oh, you betcha. Open your f*cking eyes sheeple, this is why everyone makes fun of our music. There is absolutely nothing remotely psychedelic about this album so if the mods deem that it shouldn't be reviewed here, I understand. As a matter of fact it's so bad I move that we change the album cover from the above to this: But I'm not mad at him. This is what he does. It should come as no surprise. No I'm upset at Synergetic Records who were "more than proud" to present this. After releasing loads of quality progressive they somehow thought it would be a good idea to attach their name to this dumbing down of electronic music. "Welcome to my house?" Get the f*ck outta here. "There's a message in your inbox..." - actual sample The only thing I want in my inbox from you is an apology. Not for making cheesy music, but for not insisting it come with a warning label so I don't accidentally infect myself with this drivel. Blow sweaty monkey dick? Appeal to the lowest common denominator and make your family sad? Well, it doesn't do that, but the first track has elements of all three I would imagine. Look, if you throw a grapefruit over the plate you gotta be prepared to get a little dizzy. *Holds head in hands* Look what you made me do, use a baseball reference. Which means I just crushed your sh*t over the left field wall. What possessed you to make such a vapid commercial wasteland of a first track? And that buildup...I've had paper cuts that felt better after I refilled a salt shaker. Go sell that to Nutek would you? Alien Conspiracy is better and good to see you working with Hiyarant. It can only help. Straight to hell is a hugely fun track that will get you moving with all its crazy scraping leads. It's relentless and some of the best stuff since Fist of Fury. Reminds me a lot of Frozen Ghosts barely contained insanity. Yummy. Disasterpeace continues to be a destination for the rip roaring twilight and it's good to see Alon make a recovery on this EP after that...ahem, hiccup. So like Meatloaf said... It's typical Blue Tunes style with vocal manipulation masquerading as percussion along with a change in time signature. Heard it all before. Didn't like it then, and yadda yadda yadda. "Yeah I'm in line. What's that? Oh...no bats? Ok, just fists then." Hard to believe this idiot is famous. You didn't do anything except get your pudding pounded on tape. Well...you did shame your family so I guess that's something. Can't wait to hear how she explains how mommy and her ginormous ass got famous. "Mommy who is that black guy and why is he trying to jump over you?" While Kim K. is an obvious choice I was speaking musically and metaphorically. Goa is awesome, progressive trance can be dreamy and vivid, and downtempo is what it is. But give me some twilight music with some f*cking balls and I'm listening. Now I wouldn't know Replicant Records if I tripped over them, but Tantrum seems to have assembled quite a track list here. Several styles of the night-time music are represented. We all know that doesn't guarantee success as numerous compilations continue to prove. But if you're looking for music for a workout, driving, or just setting up that bondage studio for that cute school librarian with the horn rimmed glasses who crinkles her nose when she smiles than this is for you. This discharges all over your face with thumping beats, malicious intent, and enough sticky icky acid that it will require a few hair washings. Lasers will have you ducking for cover as this storms with track after track of barely controlled chaos. It's dark and futuristic with effects that crackle and hum with energy. Some of the leads I didn't like, but they were brief, succumbing to the onslaught of those I did. Recommended. "Yes sweetie I have that library book that's overdue. I meant to return it, but I get so forgetful these days. Of course, it's right over there on top of that shelf. Would you be a dear and get that for me? So sweet." F*ck Geico, I'm off the clock. Artist: Talpa Title: Disease Within EP Label: TesseracTStudio Date: March, 2013 1. Disease Within 2. You Again Goran Juric is back with another release under the Talpa moniker. It's getting harder and harder to separate Talpa from The Riddler and the fact that this is released on TesseracT Studios further cements that theory. The Art of Being Non was released almost a decade ago and was a landmark in psytrance with its dark symphonic atmosphere and psychedelic melodies. The next album...not so much, but he began to make a comeback with The Path released two years ago. Disease Within sounds just like the Riddler with smooth beats and that eerie vibe that suits both of his projects. Check out that chunky synth warble. You Again sounds more like Talpa with more frenetic melodies. Only this guy could make a simple falling synth riff that funky. Artist: Vertex Title: Dream Architect Label: TesseracT Studio Date: March, 2013 1. Dream Architect 2. Astral Travel Man it seems the whole world has gone progressive. TesseracT has garnered quite a name for itself in the progressive genre with quality releases such as Questions by the Riddle r , compilations like Subfuse and the Future Nature series and n ot to mention the dreamy debut of Vertex Ocean. This duo (Nikola Kozić, Slobodan Gaćeša) have put out the melodic jams that helps make progressive trance popular. The first track doesn't really show their talent as it's quite minimal. It still has some dreamy pads fading in, but it's a far cry from what they did on their album. Astral Travel is better with a fuller sound picture but still seems like they went in a different direction. So it's decent progressive trance. Nah it's good. But I would still have to call it a disappointment. They've done way better than this...they even mailed in the cover. Does that look like the stuff of dreams? Does that make anyone want to buy it? So that means one of two things: One, they're riding on their name and expect you to blindly buy it or two they just don't give a f*ck. And for their final nut punch, they're asking $2.50 for each track. Either way...Iono is cracking a little smile. Beatport Mdk

Strange Phenomenon isn't overly complex, but with great effects, echoing samples and a bumping bass line saunter it really puts you into the track. Even has a Dee-Lite whistle. De-Lovely! Mind Expansion is full of old school samples warning you young kids about the dangers of marijuana. Again not deep, but entrancing. Insight or Insanity is along the same lines as the other tracks yet it is less interesting to my ears. If you're in the mood for some trippy dark progressive this ain't bad. Free at Ektoplazm Mdk
