  1. Artist: Akshan Title: Versions Inedites Ep Label: Altar Records Date: May, 2013 1. The Rise Of Atlantis (Extended Live Mix) 2. Adagio For The Braves (Extended Live Mix) 3. Journey To Persia (Extended Mix) 4. Gates Of Heaven (Extended Live Mix) 5. Shadows And Lights (Extended Mix) Vincent Grenier is a French artist who has crafted some of the most gorgeous downtempo and progressive trance I've ever heard. His style is symphonic and wide open like the skies of Montana. No space is left untouched as his music reaches deep and lush soundscapes. These five tracks for an Ep (almost an hour of music) are versions that were unreleased from his two albums. One track Journey to Persia I've never heard before. The music is mellow, lengthy, melancholy and dream inducing characterized by long intros and outros. It's truly storytelling at its finest. It's been a while since his last album and I sure hope he will have more music soon. Altar Records Bandcamp (24 bits)

  4. Artist: Narcose Title: Panda Eyes Label: Mystic Sound Records Date: January, 2017 1. Gathering Clouds 2. Gonzos Last Ride 3. Smoke Signals 4. Panda Eyes 5. Inuit 6. The Shores of Idaho 7. Nighthawk 8. Floating Through Space Anyone who doesn't like pandas ranks right up there with being a member of Isis. They're so cute and adorable! Mystic Sound records has carved out a solid reputation for releasing some great downtempo music that you can find all over Ektoplazm including this release. This is Graham Roberts from the UK with a very smooth and relaxing downtempo foray. Funk is applied lightly in a track like Gonzos Last Ride which was quite enjoyable even if I felt it went on a tad too long. The percussion is realistic sounding as if he recorded it live. Listen to the epic title track and it sounds like the drummer is in the room! The slow beat and bass music combine to create a level of eerieness, but again...sounded like a 5 minute song stretched to 10. The breaks allow a new direction and sound quite interesting. While not groundbreaking it certainly is mellow and relaxing. Recommended. Free at Ektoplazm
  5. Artist: Blue Lunar Monkey Title: Here & Now Label: Tycho Records Date: April, 2011 1. Anahatha 2. Oneness 3. Guerreros Arcoirirs (feat. Deva Sofia, Rupesh Anand) 4. Two Vines (Ayahuasca) 5. We are connected (feat. Wendy Stock) 6. Metta 7. You're not alone (feat. Wendy Stock) 8. Dissolution 9. Here and Now (Ethernal rmx) "You see we all know what reality is, but we cannot describe it." Reality is two kids that want your attention 24-7. A Jeep that works when it wants to and a dryer that doesn't. Reality is having me and my daughter puke our guts out and then next night having my wife and son take their turn. When the dryer doesn't work and kids are puking things get real. I could use a little unreality. Now here's one that probably flew under a lot of people's radar. Daniel Gradilla from Mexico has released one of the most relaxing albums I've heard in a while. This is chock full of soft melodies and gentle percussion. Dubby bass and real world instruments are all over this thing while samples speak of the mind and reality. This is sit on the beach and watch the tide roll in type music. It's slow pace and head nodding goodness will give you that Calgon take me away feeling. Most of the tracks are fairly long allowing plenty of new leads and melodies to take shape. The light strum of a guitar and sounds of nature are extremely calming. Recommended. 7. Greek producers Vasilis Kesalidis and Ioannis Konstantios started One Arc Degree with the intent to explore how music can trigger different emotional responses and memories, and then channel those evocations back into the music itself in a continuous cycle of discovery and renewal. With Cosmos in Flux, their Synphaera debut, One Arc Degree explores the mutable world of space-time on a micro-scale: “There is no reason that spacetime needs to be fundamentally smooth. We can imagine it consisting of many small, ever-changing, regions in which space and time are not definite, but fluctuate in a foam-like manner. As we probe at smaller scales, about ten times a billionth of the diameter of hydrogen's nucleus, spacetime foam reveals itself, an ocean of quantum bubbles through which light travels, cosmos in flux.” —One Arc Degree Releases May 16, 2017 https://synphaera.bandcamp.com/album/cosmos-in-flux
  8. Artist: Various Title: Salutation To The Planets Label: Altar Records Date: June, 2013 Salutation to the Planets remixed 8 times. Seriously. Ok. What do you do when you make a weak track that is uber repetitive? Sure that's the honorable thing, but how about just delete it? Or...and hear me out...invite a bunch of label mates over and see if they can clean up your mess. Suduaya is a French artist who has produced a bunch of quality work, but this track isn't close to his best. It was in that mid tempo range and ended up being annoying and very repetitive as I mentioned. That being said, it's the perfect opportunity to take something mediocre and totally transform it into a beautiful butterfly. I rant about this all the damn time. And with this digital release you get 8 cracks at it. Pretty good odds right? Talk about a lazy effort. Technically all the artists adhere to the definition of a remix as some things were different. And truth be told all of the tracks were superior to the original. The By the Rain remix added a dark and evil glitchiness that was greatly appreciated. The Landswitcher Remix had a Shponglesque quality to it. So what's my gripe? While I liked every track but the original they weren't that different that listening to this was tiresome. Take all the remixes and sprinkle them over a few compilations. Easier to digest. So the tracks are good, but as an album I'm afraid it fails. Opportunity missed.
  9. Artist: Suduaya Album: Unity Label: Altar Records Genre: Downtempo, Psychill, Progressive Psychill 1.Suduaya & Irina Mikhailova – Sweetness 89BPM 2.By the Rain & Suduaya – Silent Awereness 88BPM 3.Zero Cult – Heartwork (Suduaya remix) 100 BPM 4.Unity 105 BPM 5.Green Beats – 80's Technology (Suduaya remix) 124 BPM 6.All is full of Light 93 BPM 7.Cabeiri – Voyager (Suduaya remix) 80 BPM 8.Empty your Mind (Feat. Amin) 81 BPM Unity is the new downtempo project from Suduaya. Since 2010, he already made two others albums, some EP and collaborations and one compilation. More over, he has been touring the world with his guitar to play live in the biggest and most famous festivals. The perfect words to describe Unity are light and intense. It is a morning downtempo album, but with deep presence of bass texture. This union between ethereal trancy texture with inviting deep seated vibrations is delicious. With or without a 4/4 beat structure, each track offers a cohesive, heart-moving feeling while at the same time keeping the intense frequencies grounded; it floats, really high, and simultaneously our legs feel gravity and stay on the ground. :::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::ॐ::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::: I said the first words that comes in my mind were light and intense. ''Unity'' presents a bunch of luminous different tracks, all unique from each other. ''Sweetness'', in collaboration with Irina Mikhailova, introduce this shining intention right at the outset of the album really well. Floating guitar and crystalline/mushy sounds intertwined in a deep, smooth bass line, all lead by the mystic voice of Irina. Same thing with ''Silent Awareness'', but in proposing more intensity throughout the bass line. It's an original track that has diverse chapters and they flow well from segment to segment with good development and progression, smoothly introducing gentle sounds of guitars and keyboards sprinkled here and there. The track develops more intensity while keeping it's shining structure. Enigmatic chant and guitar lead the way until the middle when aggressive slow kick and vibrations appear. Aggressive kick and bass line—we have to remember that Suduaya is also steeped in the progressive trance tradition. Track like ''80's Technology'', a remix from Green Beats, present this face. It is a hypnotic progressive tune running at 125 bpm and offers a psychedelic structure intertwined with piano and guitar sounds. On their side, ''Heartwork'' and Unity, while proposing this progressive trance structure, remain in the downtempo ambiance. ''Unity'' ... such an awesome track! Starting aggressively with a deep kick accompanied with loud bass frequencies. The more the track progresses the more you feel an intense feeling of light subsumes the universe. Light, light, light and then comes the masterpiece: ''All is Full of Light''—a constant evolution up to the heavens! At each step you think that the climax is reached, that you cannot go further in the movement. But the next part brings another layer, and then again and again. ''The light is all around you''—these simple lyrics lead the way until the end. The album finishes with two deeper tracks: ''Voyager'', a remix from Cabeiri, and ''Empty your Mind'', a collaboration with Amin. The remix of ''Voyager'' is not really different from the original one; same structure, same ambiance but Suduaya brings his guitar touch, which allows the track to travel higher in the space. Finally, ''Empty your Mind'' can recall the universe of ''Silent Awareness''. Same airy downtempo vibrations, original evolution and crystalline sounds. But if ''Silent Awareness'' is more yin, ''Empty your Mind'' is more yang, deeply rooted in a deep shamanik ambiance lead by a male chant. Awesome album ending! :::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::ॐ::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::: Unity builds an original way to present a downtempo album. It is a beautiful combination of mysticism and grounded construction, not to mention awesome home made guitar lines signed by Suduaya. The light is everywhere in this album … Airy feeling, soul-moving atmosphere … A big smile to the universe! A must have in your discography. 11. Artist: Mindsphere Title: Mental Triplex - Mindream Label: Suntrip Records Date: March, 2017 1. Solitude 2. Circle Sphere 3. Seclusion 4. Fate 5. Orientelic Genetic 6. Serenity 7. Respiratory 8. Reformation 9. Far Away About a year after his last album Presence, this limited edition partially mixed CD is the second installment of the Mindsphere Trilogy. Of course you can also buy the digital version which is unmixed. Joske described it as "Drony, sometimes warm, sometimes cold, floating and here and there exotic!" And I would say that is a very apt description. Mindsphere is Ali Akgun and he is one of the premier names in today's goa trance scene. Solitude is a deep space ambient track that seems to have some Jean Michel Jarre influences. Dark and cold. Circle Sphere continues the futuristic and electronic cold of deep space. There is more motion with the inclusion of multiple melodies amidst a digital wash. Louder with more gravitas and drama yet still without a kick to be heard. Seclusion has an ominous air and the first hint of percussion, perhaps the booming of the sound barrier as the space craft leaves the atmosphere. The melodies are melancholy and bring to mind an astronaut on a solo mission thousands of miles away from home. And here is where I detect some Vangelis influence. Fate is a purely drifting vehicle. Ambient bliss that increases in intensity, but never loses that floaty feeling. Orientelic Genetic sounds like a word salad, but it's when his goa begins to shine through. It's also the first real, perceptible "beat." The flute is mysterious and the entire track resembles some Khetzal production. Downtempo goa trance that becomes quite busy. Serenity is just that, tumbling melodies and soft, gentle sounds that are well suited for catching a nap. Much like I did when listening to Tangerine Dream back in the day. Respiratory is another downtempo track that has a soundtrack feel to it. It's grand and many layered. Maybe a movie about a war where people pilot Mech Warriors. There is a tinge of regret here. The weird thing is the "supposed" ending where the music stops and then a new strain appears. Perhaps that transition could've been smoother. Reformation is probably my least favorite track on the album. It doesn't fit with the style of the rest of the album and feels like a mish mosh of sounds above an oscillating sine wave. Far Away fittingly ends on a beatless note. Unfortunately the track doesn't have the same verve and depth that a lot of the others had. It just kind of...is. It's gentle yet doesn't tell any story. At the 6 minute mark it leaves the flighty style and changes completely, resembling the atmosphere of most of the album. And without any subtlety. This is such a relaxing experience. I literally felt my blood pressure dropping as I prepared for hypersleep. A large portion is beatless ambient and I can see why Suntrip went with a limited edition for this release. It's not everyone's cup of tea, but like others have said it's very lush and floaty. Dude clearly has talent. However I felt the album failed to maintain its theme near the end and the quality and mood suffered because of it. While I found it enjoyable I would recommend people to give it a good listen to find out if this is what they're looking for. Suntrip Bandcamp Suntrip Shop
  12. hey everyone let me continue the yearly tradition of starting a thread about the downtempo releases of the past year. it seems i'm not the only one who doesn't know enough good releases to fill all 10 spots on the "best of 2016" voting thread. so let's try to fill in the blanks and make sure we haven't missed some great album or compilation. so feel free to list any psy downtempo release from 2016 that you find interesting. my favourites so far are: Globular - Holobiont Protondita - Ciel Astronaut Ape - Unknown Sector VA - Floating Spirals 3

  14. Artist: Various Title: Ascending Label: Melusine Records Date: December, 2016 1. Lauge - For Evigt Og Altid 2. Logical Elements - Flower Nebula (Original Mix) 3. Olexa - Miss Spring 4. Ancient Core - Caracatitza Cuantica din Oceanul Mecanic 5. E-Mantra - Ascending (Live Version) 6. Lifebloom - Rest In Self 7. Reasonandu - Immerse 8. Metamorphosis & The Adaptive - The Long Way Home 9. Cabeiri - Uranus' Seed 10. E-Mantra - Daydream (Dense Mix) 11. Saranankara - Awakening 12. Jaraluca - Spiritual Transformation 13. Ascent & Argus - One Day In India This digital release (24 bits) is from the label started by E-mantra and Reasonandu. It's a charity release with all the profits going towards underprivileged and abandoned children in Constanta. I won't pretend to know where that is, but doing good is universal. This is a long release at over 100 minutes and it contains quite the variety of music. A few mentions...All of the tracks have a good amount of depth in them and I didn't find one that was subpar. I'm not one for beatless ambient unless it's time for night night, but you get a couple of tracks of that here. Flower Nebula is a gentle and silky smooth progressive track that screams sunshine and the promise of a hopeful future. E-mantra has a couple of really good tracks here and they flow in the same vein as his downtempo releases. The music varies from utterly relaxing to strong, beat oriented downtempo with tribal touches. For example a track like Uranus' Seed has all of the above. While Awakening wasn't anything special, the middle break hit me just right. Shame it was so short. The fastest track belongs to Jaraluca and it is unapologeticaly goa. Mid tempo swagger stuff. And lastly if you like female Indian vocals than the closing track is your holy grail set amongst a head nodding beat. All in all a very good quality release and for a good cause. Recommended! 16. Entheogenic need no introduction. It is one of the groups that helped define the sound of Psychill in a great extent. With 14 years on the scene and 9 released albums they have managed to gather a large and dedicated fan group. Their last 4 albums were available only as a download. Digital Reprints wants to change that. All 3 albums (Gaia Sophia [2011], Enthymesis [2014], A Singularity Encoded [2015]), 2 EPs (B-Sides [2008], Anthropomorphic [2013]) and a bonus rmx by Kuba will be released on physical format. 8-panel high quality digipack, an 8pp booklet and a slipcase, all with artwork of Hakan Hisim will compliment the sound of Entheogenic in a truly artistic way. 18. Artist: 2Minds Title: Anomaly Label: All Records Date: 2010 1. Eat Dust 2. Anomaly 3. Sun After Clouds 4. Arturia 5. Mind Bender 6. Back In Time 7. 6 Feet Under 8. Before The Digital 9. Muezzin These 2 brothers are of one mind and that mind has a mission to create psychedelic trance soaked in goa elements. Their debut album is a great example with layered tracks that don't hover in one place for long. It's not just full steam ahead and the nuances are quite enjoyable. Their talent for genre mixing is on full-display and I'm impressed with the atmosphere they create. The album is a bit of an uneven effort with some filler near the end, but they show good signs of depth and dynamism with their music. And they got better with their 2nd release Wave Shell. 20. Artist: Koan Title: Circe's Touch Remixes Vol. 1 Label: Section Records Date: December, 2011 1. Circe's Touch (Original) 2. Circe's Touch (Asura Remix) 3. Circe's Touch (Krusseldorf Remix) Koan is a Russian duo who have been at the forefront of chill-out music. Have you been to their Discogs page? Take a look over there and see how many releases they have. Plenty to explore. Which lead me to this digital ep. You get the original of course which is tear jerkingly beautiful and full of emotion. Heavyweight Asura lends a remix and the beauty continues. By far the most interesting was the deep and warm bass heavy version by Krusseldorf. Eerie and delightful at the same time. I was hoping to get most of their albums from their Bandcamp page, but only a few are listed. Had to go to Beatport. Check it out. Beatport
  21. Artist: One Arc Degree + Cybernetika Title: Nether Moon Ep Label: Ektoplazm Date: August, 2015 01 - One Arc Degree & Cybernetika - Nether Moon (174 BPM) 02 - One Arc Degree - Ghost Comet (176 BPM) 03 - One Arc Degree - Ghost Comet (Cybernetika Remix) (176 BPM) 04 - Cybernetika - Stinger (One Arc Degree Remix) (87 BPM) Whaddya get when you mix 2 Greeks and a German? Some smooth electronic music. One Arc Degree (Vasilis Kesalidis & Ioannis Konstantios) and Cybernetika (Lars Goossens) combine forces for pretty decent ep. The science fiction style is well represented as drum n bass percussion pings off the hull of our observatory craft with Nether Moon. It also has a nice break and cool piano riffs. The kick thunders in Ghost Comet as gentle and warming tones twinkle above and then Lars gets his hands on it and makes it more dark and mysterious. The closing downtempo track is also mellow and mysterious. Not Earth shattering, but solid nonetheless. Free at Ektoplazm

  23. Altar Records presents “Biosynthesis”, by Abiogenesis. a·bi·o·gen·e·sis noun Abiogenesis: the natural process by which life arises… Calling all lovers of deep, cosmic, tripped out ambient and downtempo…Altar Records is proud to present “Biosynthesis” -the highly anticipated and latest album by CJ Catalizer (aka Dmitriy Neschadim). Hailing from Moscow, Dmitriy is known for his transcendental musical vision and devoted fan base…and with good reason: he’s been on the receiving end of glowing reviews in the international Psy Ambient scene since he first set out to create his unique brand of sonic psychedelia several years ago. This time out, he’s changing things up with a new artist name: Abiogenesis - a process which describes the origin of life on this planet some 4 billion years ago…and (drum roll) “…in the beginning, there was sound….!” And what a sound we’re treated to on his latest studio adventure, as Abiogenesis makes good use of his trademark soaring, hypnotic arpeggios that feature silky smooth glassy sounds contrasted with more acidic lines that interweave in perfect harmonic bliss. These are long, dreamy, yet engaging ambient and downtempo tracks where the melody and mood are the deciding factors and drive things along nicely, finely tuned to the visionary worlds of the ‘third eye’. Complemented by subtle use of female chants that give things a human and epic touch, along with pertinent chord changes, a tight, bouncy kick, heavenly pads, and big washes of sound that drift off into infinity, “Biosynthesis” is a masterful album and a true sonic delight that unfolds in the most patient, and yet powerful way imaginable. Abiogenesis has once again managed -in expert fashion- to create a flawless tapestry, easing the listener into new sonic horizons that will delight for years to come. In short, this is audio nirvana for your daily mana. Astropilot-Iriy

Artist: Astropilot Album: Iriy Label: Altar Records Genre: Progressive Psy-chill, Psy-chill, Downtempo, Ambiant 1.Gamayun – 11:35 2.The last nigth of Svarog – 11:29 3.Svarog's Morning – 9:27 4.Rod – 9:31 5.Makosh – 7:19 6.Svar-ga – 8:27 7.Veda (feat. Mikrokosmos) – 10:16 8.Back to Midgard-Earth – 12:56 Each time that I listen to a new Astropilot album, I always have the same reaction: ''Cheezzz … I did not know that he could create this kind of music.'' Album after album, Astropilot offers new unexpected ambiance in completely different universes. For me, he is one of the most diversified and original psychill artists. It is really hard to define Astropilot's genre. Offering a collection of tracks in which we find much space, and ambiance as deep shamanic trance tunes, not to mention a whole bunch of progressive and fast 4/4 kick structure tracks. Each album allows us to see a new surprising face from this artist. With ''Iriy'', it is in a deep trance adventure that we are invited. Each track proposes profound bass lines and groovy 4/4 kicks. It is dancy, but so floaty at the same time. Really intense, but smoochy on the other hand. The sound and the bass hits you in the chest while the shining melody opens your mouth and shows your teeth; a continuous presence of background choir, thus giving a heavenly feeling while keeping moving vibration. Overhall, each track proposes complex progressive structure that develops surprinsingly. As a dj, this album is becoming one of my masterpieces when I mix a deep trance set. Follow Iriy and enter in the dance with your heart opened and your eyes closed! ::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::: – Gamayun – ''Gamayun'' opens the album really well. Three minutes of etherical and spacy introduction, offered within deep seated vibration. Slowly, the kick shows its nose in natural continuity with the begining. At six minutes everything begins … 4/4 beat structure, smooth background of airy voices and simple melody … beautiful progression. – The Last Night of Svarog – In an intimate ambiance, a track that develops in a pure simplicity. Everything moves, progresses, changes, but at the same time still in the same universe. A surprising deep track that brings you close to the dream. – Svarog's Morning – If the last tune prepared the listener to visit Morpheus, ''Svarog's Morning'' unfolds the daylight. Crystalline sounds intertwined with etherical and shining melody that has chapters of variety and flows well from segment to segment with good development. – Rod -- ''Rod'' is a hypnotical track that develops slowly a gentle melody. In the middle, a crash … everything collapses, to rebirth from the ashes. Heavenly choir accompagnies the journey of the simple but efficient notes. – Makosh – Such a beautiful track... No kick, no dancefloor. Beautiful introdution that recalls the crystaline universe of Icelandic musicians Bjork in her ''Vespertine'' period, Sigur Ros or even Jonsi. Soft bass line appears, you close your eyes and let yourself go in this introspective starlit universe. – Svar-ga – Celestial chants, sparkling sounds, rolling double kick… there we go! Complex tune with multi-layered spectra of warm bass and kick, micro-melodies and tonal motifs enveloped by organic rhythms and divine choir. The best track of the album. – Veda – This track compliments the album's cohesive feel. Less dancy, but still really grounded in a warm bass spectrum. This tune develops unexpected chapters of melody, bringing delicate lines of organic instruments with shining electronic texture. – Back to Midgard – The last track, the last moment to dance. ''Back to Midgard'' surrounds the listener in a deep groovy double kick intertwined with heavenly textures. It is a non-stop building of harmonic soundcape that brings the dance floor in a beautiful daydreaming!
