  3. Artist: Hinkstep Title: Sunrise From The Treetops Label: Omnitropic Date: October, 2011 1 - Sunrise From The Treetops (126 BPM; 9/4) 2 - Moonwalk On Mushroom Street (80 BPM) 3 - Dreamland Dub (120 BPM; 6/4) 4 - Medusa (67.2 BPM) 5 - Aldrig Mer (130 BPM; 6/4) 6 - So Beautiful So Strange (75 BPM) 7 - Sleep Again (120 BPM) Good God Beyonce is hot. Oh, are we on? I'm always on the hunt for great music and boy did I stumble onto a winner here. Are you bored with 4/4 music? Would you love to hear an artist stretch some boundaries without making the music unlistenable? How about spending an evening alone with Sasha Fierce? Yeah me too. But I can help with two of those. Hinkstep is Jonas Tegenfeldt from Sweden and he fucking knocks it out of the park with his debut. It's brimming with excellent musicianship bringing psychedelia together with spiritual and tribal elements. When was the last time you heard a trombone in psychedelic music that didn't seem out of place? I'll tell you...never. Uncountable gentle melodies take you over the mountaintop in a slow glide, never rushing. Vast as a Montana sky it sometimes reminds me of the path taken by Kitaro on the Silk Road with more ethnic variables. I cannot choose a favorite because they are all awesome tracks. I even liked the cheesy vocal in So Beautiful when he got all auto tuney. This is a stairway to heaven created by the sun's ultimate warmth perfect for relaxing or embarking on a journey of self discovery. And it's free. Spectacularly epic. Ektoplazm Mdk
  4. Artist: Itsu Title: Sublimate Label: Ektoplazm released Date: August, 2012 01 - Monsoon (77.5 BPM) 02 - Drizzle (95 BPM) 03 - Don't Dance To This (130 BPM) 04 - Top Harmonic (90 BPM) "In the beginning there was nothing. No space, no time...just nothing." I love taking a look at music that is unknown to me. Life is like a box of chocolates you know. Well the candy store that is Ektoplazm is open for business. And that business is providing great music for free. Itsu is Ben Jancovich and this EP is a genre buster. There are elements of dubstep, downtempo, drum n bass, glitch and so on packaged in easily digestible chunks to appreciate. From gentle tracks like Monsoon to the more upbeat and aggressive Don't Dance To This. It's nod your head good beat music in an electronic free for all. Ordered chaos if you will. Top Harmonic combines the soft melodies with the hard edge of punchy beats in maximum overdrive. Ektoplazm does such an incredible service to the psychedelic community providing quality music for all palettes. There truly is something for everyone here, exposing the listener to great music like this that cannot be easily classified. This is a good EP full of creativity that has me wondering if I;ll ever buy music again. Nah, of course I will. But this is a great place to explore what music moves you. Highly recommended. Suitable surrounds and subtle sounds are as equally uplifting by reaching for rhythms that are in tune with the most peaceful elements of the soul. Psy-ambient duo Land Switcher are substantial examples of this finest of artistic abilities by taking listeners/participants on a round tour of the expanses of the cosmos of human experience in their newly released EP, Tribe Scenario. As individuals Freddy Chauvin (Producer, DJ) and Antoine Martineau (Drummer, Percussionist) are proven talented musicians with formative dub roots but in co-joining in 2010 they have taken on new capabilities as the collaborative components of Land Switcher. With joyfully received live show taking them across the continents and an ever-expanding back-catalogue they are now beginning to mine the full potential of their greater whole. Tribe Scenario is four tracks of intelligent blissfulness with raw percussions and far reaching psy-sensibilities engendering the audience with the possibilities of expanded consciousness. Tribal elements pervading but such is their underplayed interweaving the perception of we are one as universal beings, with origins from beyond the horizon, is the only discernible emphasis. Tribe Scenario will be available soon from Free-Spirit Records - those metaphorical dream-catchers of psychedelic sounds who are converting dreams into liveable realities. 6. Artist: Aes Dana Title: Pollen Label: Ultimae Date: December, 2012 1. Jetlag Corporation 2. Borderline 3. Conditioned (Album Edit) 4. Tree. Some 5. A carmine day 6. 101 Clouds 7. Riven 8. The meeting point 9. Horizontal Rain 10. Low tide explorations "I am, for the first time...optimistic." Some people just know how to get it right. Consistently. Vincent Villuis is the mind behind this project and he has left a string of superb albums in his wake. Dude's like King Midas. Founding member of Asura, part of H.U.V.A. Network...the guy just pumps out quality. I wonder when he pees in the toilet if you hear the sound of gold ingots sprinkling the bowl. I think he runs his software through a solid gold laptop. I've seen it. His latest effort deals with pollen, a decidedly springtime endeavor, but right now it's freezing outside with snow on the ground. And that works perfectly. He starts with Jetlag Corporation which drops the dub bass as it slogs through quicksand. Perfect for a walk in the snow. Borderline is a cold, dark track with dubby bass and industrial sounds that weeps with regret. The fact that he can maintain that when the kick comes in is remarkable. Conditioned is a thumping progressive house track that is like watching traffic go by in a perpetual drizzle. Gloomy with pulsing electronica the ending pads gleam like foreign ice fields. I told you it was cold. You would think you couldn't be disappointed with a Tree Some, but here we are. It's another moody progressive trance track that felt kind of empty to me. So yes I wasn't thrilled with this Tree Some. But at least I ain't that guy. It's like Shallow Hal but with grandmothers. Where the hell was the wingman on this one? A Carmine Day has frequent knocking percussion and a hard kick and if there was any filler it would be this track. But because the whole is greater than the individual parts it kinda works. He gets back on track with the wide open 101 Clouds. They float slowly by taking their time, forming and reforming countless shapes, speaking just to me. "God what does this mean? So...am I gay now? Or are you telling me to stop playing with myself?" Riven has a bass that reverberates through your chest as the world slowly loses itself. Long pads stretch across an unforgiving sky as I watch the snow continue to fall, wrapped tightly in my heavy jacket. The Meeting Point bubbles and slowly makes it's sad melody known. It's not the deepest track, but it serves as a guide to some Horizontal Rain. And n*gga if you see horizontal rain you're standing in a hurricane. But this doesn't have the force of a hurricane...more of a soft drizzle. It's the type of rain that will force you to look back on a maybe questionable decision. The glitchy melody fits like a glove with the freezing pads. Oh look...it's snowing again. The final track Low Tide Explorations is a long story that moves through ambient textures and dubby breakbeats. Like a lot of fans I was prepared to give this the rubber stamp of approval. I mean, it's Aes Dana. But after several listens I didn't think it was as good as Leylines or Perimeters. So I went for a walk in the snow at dusk. And I began to smile. This is a wonderful album with perpetually overcast skies. There is a foot of snow on the ground with no end in sight. The music is cold and dark with sounds that wouldn't be out of place on a Depeche Mode or NIN album. He traverses boundaries frequently, often within the same track, but never loses his melancholic flow. Glacial pads hover above glitchy electronica as a kick thunders below. So do you have to go out into the elements to enjoy this? Nah, but it certainly helped me. It's a glorious journey of mournful tones that is best appreciated listening all the way through. Congratulations you magnificent bastard, you've done it again. Mood altered. Psyshop Beatspace Goastore Mdk

  17. Artist: The Mixing Chef Title: Intense Meditative Trip Sessions Vol. 1 Label: Cyan Music Date: April, 2012 1 - Ongoing Harmony (79 BPM) 2 - Nearby River Flowing (90 BPM) 3 - Technetium (90 BPM) 4 - Psyciety (92 BPM) 5 - I Can't Breathe (100 BPM) 6 - Acid (Bright Colours) (79 BPM) You know for the longest time I believed there to be only one chef that mattered. I find it amusing and sad that in order to market him in the US at that time they had to dumb his name down. Boyardi? Too ethnic, people will think he's a communist and they won't want his sh*t on their dinner table! When we all know that there can be only one. Ran this through google translator because apparently only elves and pixies actually speak Swedish. "F*ck You Gordon Ramsay! You stole my bit mother f*cker! F*ck you, f*ck your mother, f*ck this fucking apron! F*ck your show and your fat f*cking co-chefs. Try making me cry mother f*cker I'll f*cking slice you with some dual cleaver action. F*ck this turtle and what the f*ck? Why the f*ck am I cracking eggs on a f*cking turtle? Who f*cking writes this sh*t" Holy sh*t Gordon did steal his bit. Apparently there is a new chef in town. The mixing chef. Don't all chef's mix? Whatever, he is Kristof Du Mon and the promo spared no cooking pun in describing his assemblage of downtempo music. Ongoing Harmony- Nice beats and heavenly pads join twinkling melodies making for the best track right out of the gate. Nearby River Flowing- It does have the vibe of a flowing river, but just like a river if I stare at it long enough time vanishes. Meh. Technetium- 11 minutes! I really think my attention span is shrinking rapidly. Anyone got the cliff notes for this thing? 5 minutes to go and I'm really not connecting with this. It's one of those that just kinda...goes. Psyciety- Jesus Tap Dancing Christ another 11 minutes?!?!? At this pace it'll take an hour. But I suppose hurtling through outer space at 1 mile an hour with this soundtrack won't be all that bad. There are some rapid percussive elements that make it seem like we are soaring past undiscovered planets. The last bit sounds as if the computer is picking up signs of life from the surface of one of those planets. Different. I Can't Breathe- It's holding down a funky breakbeat with some warped bass effect and various synthetics. I liked it. Acid (Bright Colours)- I didn't hear any acid but I think I did hear some quality beatboxing. It moves at a slow plodding pace with some bright sunshine pads sparkling in my eyes. Then it switches to a drum centric beat to close. Not bad It really is a collection of different styles of downtempo music. Some tracks are pretty long as I mentioned and you can really zone out. I know I did. Not the best stuff I have ever heard, but I always like to support new artists. Free at Ektoplazm Mdk
  18. Artist: D-Echo Project Title: The Flavour of Fusion EP Label: Cyan Music Date: June, 2012 1 - Inadequacy (79 BPM) 2 - Funky Smooth Biz (79 BPM) 3 - Wind Trails (100 BPM) 4 - Chilling Drop (79 BPM) "No man can tell what tomorrow will bring." Well I hope it brings me more of this! Now this is what I'm talkin' about. Smooth beats and melodies ideal for sipping a cold one on the beach with friends. Don't know these guys from Portugal? It's cool, the music will unite. The promo says they create easy listening music, but this ain't your Mom's Air Supply. Nope, this is Louis Armstrong and Barry White cool going over to James Brown's house to jam. Oh, there will be no money exchanged...only warm vibes. It is repetitive also so why aren't I ripping it like I have some others? One, the tracks are not 8 or 9 (or God forbid 11!) minutes long of the same sh*t. Maybe if you add all of them together. These guys understand how long they can get away with this style and create the track accordingly. Another plus? You can actually hear the instrument sounds. Not just obscure noises. This actually sounds like musicians played the notes in the studio. Cool downtempo goodness and groove that like the sample says will make you have a smile on your face. Yeah, it's not beer, but that will also work. Get your relax on! Mdk
  19. Artist: S.E.T.H. Title: The First Four Letters of Reality EP Label: Fish 'n Trips Records Date: April, 2012 1. Flight of the Igloo 2. Intimate Vibrations 3. My Bleeding Mortality 4. Harmonium Label owner Luke Burns in his own words decided to freely give you music as a reminder to "stay calm, relax, and chill the f*ck out." His words not mine. Flight of the Igloo- Silly S.E.T.H...igloos can't fly. They're made by dark skinned leprechauns who haven't yet won equality at the Lucky Charms factory. Don't you know anything? This track is made of 3 parts. A slow analogue synth smear across the glass, followed by heavenly strings over the quicksand slow beat. Lastly it's a rapid (what are you doing here?) arpeggio. It all comes together for some quality mountaintop meditation. Intimate Vibrations- Somehow I envision myself on a subway in Chicago at 3 AM getting it on with Rebecca De Mornay. But instead of her, I'm stuck with this prize. I'm sorry Bill. So sorry. For you not me. This track has it all: Slow and straightforward beat, solid atmosphere and school children taking a break from fractions to sing vibrate. Glorious. My Bleeding Mortality- I would love to bump this in my car. I would. Slow and steady it's as gangsta as electronic downtempo can get. But I live in the south. If the quirky electronics at the end don't get me the odd looks from the locals, the quasi muslim call to prayer would seal it. You realize I live in a state with a town named after hanging people that are different right? Beautiful work though...I'll keep it on the Samsung. Harmonium- He fools you with the final track making you think he's gonna keep it slow with the dubby beat. 3 minutes in he drops the snare and the synths wobble & crunch like they're going downhill. Not bad. Easily recommended for beautiful soundscapes. Will keep an eye on him and hope that he releases more stuff in the future. Free at Ekto! Mdk

  21. Krusseldorf – From Soil to Space 1. Geometrics 2. Boxing 3. The Cell 4. First Blood 5. From Soil to Space 6. Click 7. Deep Fulgin 8. Tokyo Nights 9. Soe Doe 10. Deep into the Bowl 11. Choclop 12. Zyclops 13. A head under the Towel After having reviewed Krusseldorf's second album, 'Bohemian groove', I was certain that this was the pinnacle of Simon Heath's career, he could never release an album that would top it. This was the perfect album, there were no flaws, no bad tracks, no mistakes, everything was meshed into something extraordinary. This album was Simon's fifteen minutes of fame, I told myself, and to be honest, how do you top something perfect? Well you can't really top it but you obviously can do it again! And perfect a second time around, is surely good enough for me. The first thing you recognize is Krusseldorfs amazing production skills, it's crisp, acidic, snappy and the composition never feels misplaced or unconsidered. The composition is worth mentioning, it's a more daring one. Simon is pushing the boundaries a little bit into a more glitchy and at times crazy approach, reminiscent of 'Smokers lounge', only this time it is executed exceedingly better. What is also apparent is the dark, gloomy touch. 'From soil to space' does not have the same emphasis on melodic content as Bohemian Groove did, which was a very colorful album. The color spectrum on FSTS is towards a more brown and gray one, represented on the cover art. Here the center of gravity is the gloomy atmosphere and the glitchy composition. A good way of describing this sonic gourmet dish is the merging between Simon's other project Atrium Carceri and Krusseldorf. So there's not a ton of melodies but they do appear from time to time. Although not as to make the music veer away too far from it's gloomy tendency, at most it sounds contemplatively beautiful with an edge of sadness. I think that this was a conscious choice from Simon and a good one at that. This album was never meant to convey something happy or elevating. It adds a mature touch, and it makes me regard Simon more as a great composer than a good downtempo producer. Music can be art, and very much so on FSTS. Every listen I just sit and “watch” the music, looking at it from different angles, letting it give rise to different notions and conceptions in my mind, there is always some little detail I didn't notice before. I would like to hang it on the wall but this is of course not possible, it's a piece of truly abstract art. It might be true that a picture says more than a thousand words, and I feel inclined to submit to you that a good album says more than words can ever describe. And this is surely the case with 'From soil to space'. If you like this review please check out my Blog at http://thenoseisperp...r.blogspot.com/

Emerald Epiphytes (Kilowatts Rattlefunk Remix) 6. 667 7. Inner Space Funk 8. Unidentified Flying Octopus (Mr. Bill Remix) 9. Mycorrhiza Mambo 10. Unidentified Flying Octopus 11. Mama Llama Maestro 12. Avatar of the Horticult 13. Becoming the Ancestor I'm teaching this dog to dance to Call Me Maybe so I can become a YouTube millionaire. Don't judge me. What have you done to make the world a better place? This is Evan Bartholomew who is no doubt known to all who lay eyes on this review. He's from the West Coast of North America (US or Canada? If Canada sorry about the women's soccer team) Unlike the rest of you slobs (what are you lookin' at mirror?) he is attempting to help save the rainforest. 100 percent of all album proceeds go to end deforestation, species loss and cultural upheaval in the amazon. Here is a link where you can help if you are so inclined. Help the Amazon! Becoming The Seed- This is an intro track with ahem, Mrs. Ladyapples speaking over a soft ambient drone. Listening to it several times forces me to realize that it is a discussion left for the intellectual minds of free spirits or to put it another way... "Bullsh*t, I call bullsh*t you crazy rabbit! Picard couldn't hold Kirk's jock!" I have actually heard grown adults arguing over this. Reminds me of school, where all I heard was Charlie Brown's teacher. 667 (Kayla Scintilla Remix)- This is bouncy dub with some tribal elements. It's all very clear and kind of a curious thing. Like I just broke through the leaves of the jungle into a clearing where I am greeted by an indigenous peoples. Emerald Epiphytes- A track that also serves as a teaching moment is never a bad thing. Ding ding, class is in session! epiphytes- plant that grows on another: a plant that grows on top of or is supported by another plant but does not depend on it for nutrition. Mosses, tropical orchids, and many ferns are epiphytes. Symbiosis seems to be a theme for this collection of music. The track changes from a bouncy downtempo piece to a lounge like dub story. But you know, when you've got 8 minutes it can do that. It returns to a slightly dark exit which I thought was cool. Thunder Song- With a freaky carnival like bounce eerie melodies chime in a drunken saunter. Kinda weird. Emerald Epiphytes (Kilowatts Rattlefunk Remix)- This is the 2nd of 3 remixes on this album and performed by our good friend James from the US of A. He brings the funk with some deft bass sorcery and smooth melody. He knocks over a minute and half off the original track time and it creates a nice cohesive track. Good stuff. 667- Evan drops the original and it's got some funk appeal. But my short attention span needs more stimulation than this track is providing. Not your fault man, blame Pitfall and the atari 2600. Inner Space Funk- Know how I know this is gonna be funky? It says so in the title. Katrina's vocals are welcome over the head bobbing beat and smooth synths. Reminds me of a Tribe Called Quest feel. Liked it a lot. Unidentified Flying Octopus (Mr. Bill Remix)- Mr. Bill is a funky kinda guy, but I was unaware that he ran in the same circles as Evan. That morphing bass is a hallmark as is the glitchy percussion. It's mellow and smooth acting as an exercise in sound manipulation. Not overly deep, but very enjoyable. Mycorrhiza Mambo- Mother pus bucket this is like going to school. I thought I was through with this. Mycorrhiza is a fungus that grows in association with the roots of a plant in a symbiotic or mildly pathogenic relationship. So you don't know if it's helpful or damaging to the host. Clever. Keep your firends close, but your enemies closer. And Mycorrizha sounds like something that girl gave me. Shoulda listened...shoulda listened... It wasn't bad with it's saunter. Unidentified Flying Octopus- Interesting that he put the remix before the original. The bass is deep here and the percussion is still racy. There was more melody in the remix so I liked that better, but this was still pretty good. Mama Lllam Maestro- Ringing bells and deep bass and I just know I'm gonna float away on this one. Feather soft synths paint the sky as the world moves in slow motion. Dreamy. Avatar of the Horticult- 10 minutes?!? Better pack a lunch. Big Bubba's chili...just eliminate the middle man. Nice slow downtempo that will have you looking skyward at the marvels the rainforest probably holds. I wouldn't know though because I've never been. Are there spiders? There are? Really? Cause they creep me out. This would be the perfect track to nap to in a hammock. Becoming the Ancestor- Mrs. Apples is back and here's how I see it. Somehow she drags you out to a gathering of her friends which you reluctantly agree to. Thoughts race through your mind, wondering what you're doing here, is it worth it...You haven't been laid in a while and her boobs are fantastic. You'll be surprised what guys will put up with to get a little tail. I'm not saying what she's saying isn't important, it probably is. And damnit I'm trying to look in her eyes, but...boobs don't have eyes. Good for him doing something that can actually better the planet. Most of us are too consumed with our culture to realize that there is a greater part of the world out there. The music is all downtempo and dubby in style as you would expect from Evan. Continually mixed so you really get an immersive feel for a nonstop trip. Not the greatest I've ever heard, but very enjoyable. Relaxing to be sure. 23. Artist: Various Title: Special Places Label: Sentimony Records Date: February, 2012 1. Alpae-3717 - K.D. Expression 2. Camaras De Lamento - CYGNA 3. Dandelions As Memory - CHRONOS 4. Out From Little Box (Astropilot Edit) - IRUKANJI 5. Via Lactea (Astropilot Edit) - AMBIENT INTELLIGENT APPLICATION 6. Port - RABITZA 7. Svoboda - ASTROPILOT 8. Aug - ACCESS TO ARASAKA 9. Disappear - FIELD ROTATION 10. Jewel (Astropilot Edit) - NEXAR 11. A Final Thought - 36 12. A Moment Of Madness - EGUANA What is that....a hockey skate? Or a bunny ridding a sled? Sentimony Records is a label that specializes in psy-ambient and downtempo music that is very relaxing. Based in the Ukraine, they are run by Irukanji and NeiRula. This was compiled by Astropilot and he offers 3 remixes and a track of his own. It's a mix of known artists and newbies, but if it's anything like the dreamy cover I'm all in. Alpae-3717- Lock up your daughters cause here come the Russians! Sergey Yakimov opens things up with a massive soundscape as seen through a huge starship window. The solar atmosphere is well in place as he adds some metallic clanking, but make no mistake, the pads are the star here. With a smooth string and echoing melody we are arriving at our destination. Cameras De Lamento- Been meaning to check out homie's debut in detail, but life has only allowed me to give it cursory listens. It is right in his wheelhouse with a medieval folk vibe complete with big drums and sad melodies big as the Scottish mountains. If you cannot picture Braveheart in this, you haven't seen enough movies. It never gets dull as it switches direction frequently enough to keep you glued. He's even got some guitar that he somehow manages to make it belong. Super. Dandelions as Memory- If you follow downtempo music this man needs no introduction. It's the longest track here and quite easy to get lost in. Smooth for sure and would be perfect for a rainy day as the faraway synth undulates over tumbling water and birdsong. Another one that undergoes several changes so take your time and drink it all in. Out From Little Box (AstroPilot Edit)- Like Dmitry? Well not only did he compile this album, but as I mentioned he delivers a track and three remixes. This is the first remix. Having never heard the original the thing that stands out is the flute which gives it a very Buddhist quality as if I were in Nepal staring at the Himalayas. Goes by quickly even if there ain't much to it. Via Lactea (AstroPilot Edit)- Remix number two please report for duty. It does a great job bringing smooth, floating pads over a chugging percussive set as if the engine of an old tractor was growling to life. Picture time lapse video of a farmer plowing his fields under an overcast sky. Probably has zero to do with the track, but that's what I'm gettin. Who cares, as long as I enjoy it. Port- This duo craft a slowly oscillating track that comes in like waves on the shore as thunder crackles and the rain begins to fall. It hums and droplets fall and create ripples in the sea. Where the f*ck is my hammock when I need it. Svoboda- Glad he decided to add a track of his own. Melancholy piano is just made for a thunderstorm. Not a lot to say about this one. AUG- Rob Lioy (sole American on this compilation) offers up drifting pads along with great effects. All of this = a track that is delicious to the ears. Short though it may be, it is the perfect bridge to Field Rotation's track. Disappear- What did I walk into a funeral? Is this where I lean on the casket for a closer look and it falls to the floor, dislodging the body into a compromising position? Cause that would totally happen to me. This is easily the most mellow track on the compilation. Slow beatless ambient that is suited for looking up at the clouds while so incredibly stoned that they couldn't make enough Funions. "Excuse me young man can you blow me where the pampers is?" Yeah, that high. Jewel (AstroPilot Edit)- This is Nazar Nikolaev and as far as I know this is the only track he released under this project. Never heard the original, but Astropilot gives it his third remix. BTW, he also has a project called Crackle Creations which makes IDM according to Discogs. Very soft and sad piano and strings that conjure up images of Rena Jones. The female vocal is nice, but I'm so fixated on the music I have no idea what she said. It picks up a slow beat and then floats away. Soothing. A Final Thought- Dennis Huddleston from the UK and he has made a short drone track. On it's own I think it would bore me, but in this compilation it fits the pensive mood perfectly. A Moment of Madness- This is Sergey Severin from Russia, but according to his FB page he spent some time in Kentucky. Ah....I come for the education, but I stay...for the Colonel's secret recipe. I have never heard of this individual, but he has composed a track so full of melancholy and sadness that one cannot help but find time for reflection. Was a loved one lost? Beautiful piano piece that would fit right in as the soundtrack to The Ring. Truly special and my favorite one on here. I'm going to have to pay closer attention to this label if they keep releasing stuff this good. It is a drifting and floating parade of sorrowful melodies sad atmosphere. Each track would hold up on its own, but together it creates a aural tapestry. Highly recommended. Beatspace Psyshop Saiko Sounds Goa Store Juno Download Mdk
  24. Artist: Kick Bong Title: Remixed Label: Cosmic Leaf Records Date: September, 2011 1. Way of Life Remix 2. Little Fairy Remix 3. Logical Life Remix 4. Darkeion Remix 5. Voice of Resurrection Remix 6. Progress In Happiness Remix 7. Spain is Pain (Kick Bong Remix) - Swordxl 8. Strange Feeling (Swordxl Remix) - Kick Bong 9. Once Upon a Time (Kick Bong Remix) - Side Liner 10. Sensation Remix 11. Blissfull Remix Kick Bong. Sounds like a gay sport that it's participants are attempting to get into the Olympics thereby justifying it's legitimacy. Still not this gay though... And what the f*ck is this happy horsesh*t? I cannot think of anything more embarrassing than telling someone I play a...ahem, "sport" from a children's book. See white people, this is why minorities laugh at you. That is, until you get out of school and then hoard your wealth in international tax havens because that's the way the family has been doing it for generations. But I digress. This is Frank (with a c) Jousselin from France with his 4th album. I was a little late on the train, but I liked his Flower Power album with it's varied styles. In a refreshing change of pace instead of inviting people to remix your tracks and eat all your food and then inevitably clog the toilet, he decides to get off his ass and do it himself. Way of Life Remix- From the Mountain High 2 compilation originally. It had a nasty breakbeat and tribal chants with a sledgehammer dubby bass. A perfect melange between natural sounds and electronica. The remix is uber soft like that first 5 minutes post coitus. You know right when she falls asleep and I'm calling Pizza Hut. Most of the groove is taken out and the vocal is much more prominent. It moves along slowly as if in a dream state. Did I just sleep with my wife's best friend? Oh man...I've got some splaining to do.... Little Fairy Remix- Having never heard the original this one goes from soothing to a rather frenetic pace. I'm chill in the beginning and then I'm agitated. Like when I'm talking to the insurance company. You know you owe me f*cking money, why you gotta lie? Like a good neighbor, give me my f*cking lawnmower back fat sac. Logical Life Remix- Originally from his Flower Power album. It had this nice bass that hovered over the breakbeat that felt real good. Bills are paid and still got 5 days of my week vacation ahead of me good. The only thing that kept me from giving it stellar marks was his penchant for talking over his tracks. Frank with a c... zip it. So on the remix it's another breakbeat and that good feeling is still there. But so is the talking. Shhhh. bag of shush and sh*t. Darkeion Remix- This is some funky sh*t! Groovy as hell with a swagger like you own the room. Mid tempo with a catchy bass line and even you could rap to this. Slide up to the females in my white linen suit, hit 'em with a little blah blah blah and I'm ordering breakfast for three, baby! Voice of Resurrection Remix- "We do not attend to have achieved perfection. But we do have a system, and it works. Your choice is to join us and live in peace or pursue your present course and face obliteration. We await your answer. The decision rests with you." That is exactly what was said to me before they kicked me out of Optometry school. Was he in the room? Frank with a c can get percussively funky as he demonstrates here. The groove caught me up and the only thing he didn't bang a beat out on might've been my ass cheeks. The break is smooth and dreamy filling you with a good feeling. Nicely done sir. Progress In Happiness Remix- The captain has turned on the clothing optional sign so please feel free to get down and comfortable because he's still bringing the groove. His breakbeats are unparalleled and weaving it with an operatic falsetto type vocal? Clever. I don't know what part of France he's from, but he's got beats like the Neptunes. And that eerie melody line? Tell me you didn't do this... Spain is Pain (Kick Bong Remix)- This is the first of two tracks he remixes that weren't his. Other than his breakbeats though (surprise surprise) I didn't care for this. It's a drum n bass style that is quite fast. Knocked me out of my comfort groove zone. Strange Feeling (Swordxl Remix)- Not to be outdone, Mr. Swordxl takes a swipe at a Kick Bong track. It's smooth and melancholy and fits better in this album than the previous track. I like the balance of the percussion with the smooth tones that float above. Good stuff. Once Upon A Time (Kick Bong Remix)- Here Frank with a C takes on a Side Liner track from the album with rocks in the water, whatever it's called. Once Upon a Time, that was it. The original gave me a glacial feeling with cold pads and forlorn flute like sounds. That's all still here and he told the story in about 2 less minutes. It also comes off with a smoother feel to me. Now that's a remix sir. Sensation Remix- Loved this one. His glitchy percussive style suits me, and it's so soft that it could be Doug E. Fresh beat boxing. It's a crawl, but a crawl on goose down pillows. Blissfull Remix- Disco + late afternoon at the beach with friends + smooth melody = Pretty good remixes in different styles on this release. He does it right, keeping elements of the original while not making a carbon copy of it. I enjoyed it. Now please excuse me, I have an ultimate frisbee game to get to. What? That sport is cool.
