  1. Artist: Various Title: Graham Label: Equinox Date: March, 1997 1. The Infinity Project - Intro 2. Mystery of the Yeti - Part 4 3. Woodski - Woodski 4. Excess Head - Hopscotch 5. The Infinity Project - Noises From The Darkness (Dub) 6. Excess Head - Strange Thing 7. The Infinity Project - Mystical Experiences 8. Excess Head - Subcurrents 9. The Flippidy Dippidy Project - The Outro "You're going to be able to meet these people, talk to them." Graham Wood (half of The Infinity Project) brought his TIP buddies together to make a very odd album. It's downtempo and ambient with a goa flair. Graham is featured on every track under various aliases. My favorite was Part 4 by Mystery of the Yeti as it was the most musically interesting and complex. Some weird sh*t going on here though. How high did you have to be to make Woodski? Hopscotch? Noises From the Darkness? When those three tracks ended did the stock price of Doritos tumble? The whole middle of this album is lost in a green haze of cannabis smoke. Very trippy. Strange Thing still sounds like I'm caught in a hippies disjointed dream, but at least I can follow it. Mystical Experiences is a great slice of ambient found on the Infinity Project album of the same name. Full of sounds that continue with the floating. Sub Currents churns with juicy bass for almost its entire length. Even the outro aims to conjure and shape your hallucinations. If you're searching for that album that you can zone out to look no further. Set hallucinogens to maximum wood. Mdk
  2. Artist: Sync24 Title: Comfortable Void Label: Ultimae Records Date: June, 2012 1. Comfortable Void 2. Inadvertent 3. Dance of the Droids 4. 1N50MN14 5. Nanites 6. Sequor 7. Something Something 8. Oomph 9. Wake (Live Edit) 10. There is No Spoon "It's beautiful here." I love listening to downtempo music in the wee hours of the morning. It's ultra quiet with nary a distraction allowing the full power of the music to wash over you in palpable waves. This is Daniel Ringstrom with an absolute diamond from Ultimae Records. The CD is mixed so each track flows gently into the next like the slow rising of the sun on a winter's dawn. It floats, perpetually slowly with soft touches buffering the listener from all that is intrusive. Crawling with a sloth like measured calm the album is peaceful and relaxing moving across the chill landscape. Shifting from ambient to the delicate notes of trance sometimes within the same track this is a security blanket. Never in a hurry it unfolds precisely on time. Glacial pads form the backdrop as tones ring gently amidst real instruments. Yes it certainly is beautiful here. Can't find Cd, but you can get the digital album from Ultimae. Mdk
  3. Artist: Psilocybian Title: Unfold Oneself Into Endlessness Label: BMSS Records Date: November, 2014 01: Wonderfantabulous 02: Dreamability 03: A thing about inconsequent Reverberation 04: Pathways 05: Science Friction 06: Strawberry Fields 07: Unfold Oneself into Endlessness 08: PsiloCybian & Deimos - Waveform with a mind of its own 09: Yield 10: NLO 11: Let me tell you about a weird Dream So we all know Sasa Dukic (Psilocybian) from his fine work in the full-on arena with albums like Dreamtime and Godhead. Both great stuff from a guy who likes to put a pinch of goa in all that he does. For his latest he delivers something that has been on his mind for quite a while. A chill-out album. It took me a long time to review this because I had the hardest time getting into it. And I'm lazy. Well, mostly because I'm lazy. This isn't the dreamy soundscape stuff you would expect from Ultimae or the crazy psychedelic madness from the likes of Shpongle. I suppose you would classify it as psychill (if you must), but it's really all over the map. In speaking with Sasa he basically said he wanted to make a chill out album that people could dance to. Say what now? The name chill out means to, well...chill out. Relax. Not dance. That's what the other stuff is for. So I had to wrap my brain around that mindf*ck. And let me tell you this isn't music that will help you escape, or drift off into memory. That's not what he wanted. A lot of the tracks are big beated. Don't think that's a word, but you know what I mean. Head nodding beats. He's not here to put you to sleep, but to wake your punk ass up and keep you grooving. He mentioned that this album was made without any inspiration from other artists so he took the music wherever it wanted to go without any distractions. Good for him. My favorite was Science Friction with its big beat and Shpongley vocal tacet. And he kept the goa special sauce in there, don't worry. It's really a very different type of chill album than I'm used to, but I think it hits some psychedelic notes. It has some really good melodies and as I mentioned he wanted you to dance with this so that's in here. He floats among all the styles, breakbeat, downtempo, ambient, even a little drum n bass. So there's probably something for everyone here. Not my favorite chill album, but an interesting foray into chill from a guy who knows how to craft a psytrance track. BMSS Psyshop

  6. Artist: E-Mantra Album: The Hermit's Sanctuary Label: Altar Records Genre: Ambiant, Psy-chill, Downtempo Between Two Worlds : The Boatman 7:25 The Hermit's Sanctuary part I - Medidate 6:54 The Hermit's Sanctuary part II - Sleep 7:05 The Hermit's Sanctuary part III - Requiem 5:58 Howls from the Deep 6:48 Daydream 6:27 Pheromone 6:54 Harmonic Waves (re-edit) 6:13 Nocturne 7:29 Lonely Sorrow 7:25 I was listening to this album with my brother in his car. As soon as the first track begun, he told me : « It sounds like music for a movie. » As an ambiant music fan and dj, I've heard this sentence several times. Usually it bothers me. But this time, I completly agree with my bro. When you listen to the entire album The Hermit's Sanctuary, in the proper order, you find the same structure as a story: an introduction, a development, a crash and an ending. There is a global ambiance progressing throughout the albums sequence. While listening to the album, one easily gets into the tale that E-Mantra builds for the listener to experience. Each track has a place, and a good place. :::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::ॐ::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::: As soon as the first track starts one can feel the tale slowly begin. With Between Two Worlds: The Boatman, we start at the beginning of the journey. An atmospheric track, without any beat, which slowly presents dark waves of sound. A creepy track in which one can feel oneself in a old haunted boat moving and rolling in the fog of a rainy night. Next, we travel with Meditate, Sleep and Requiem, the three parts of the track The Hermit's Sanctuary. Begining with birds and ocean wave sounds, Meditate gently evolves through a soft piano melody of an early morning sunny day on the sea. With Sleep, it's kind of the same structure, presenting shining, soft and relaxed sounds. This track progress throughout with a catchy simple loop that stays in your head forever. Finally, Requiem installs the beat. After a beautiful short atmospheric introduction, a mellow kick starts the track. It's an awesome tune that progress and transforms in an original way. My favorite track of the album! After Howls from the Deep, wich bring us into the lower layer of our consciousness, the album softly installs a psy-chill universe. Daydream proposes a chill psychedlic texture lead with a deep kick. With Pheromone, my second favorite track of the album, the kick is still there, but way more intense. In a 80 BPM tempo, this track offers a marvelous spiritual melody build around soft and bouncing psychedelic sounds; a deep spiritual track that reminds me of the style of the first E-Mantra ablum Visions from the Past. Harmonic Waves is a faster track. With a catchy spacey loop, this tune makes its way into a psychedelic trip-hop texture. Just after, Nocturne builds a shining melodic adventure accompanied by a constant mellow kick. Kind of the same structure as Pheromone, but less intense and more luminous. Finally, Lonely Sorrow closes the journey. Like Beetween Two Worlds: The Boatman, this one presents atmospheric and floating waves of sound. No beat, no loop. It is a deep track, but it's not a creepy track. If with the first tune Between Two Worlds: The Boatman, we feel ourselves being trapped by shadow forces, Lonely Sorrow presents the key, the one to find our way through the shadow and find The Hermit's Sanctuary. ::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::ॐ:::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::: I've listened to many ambiant, chill, atmospheric music albums in my life. To be honest, it's really rare that I don't skip a track or two when I listen to a whole album beginning to end. But with The Hermit's Sanctuary, I press play, I close my eyes, and let myself go into a whole journey of sounds, images and feelings. For sure, this E-Mantra album is an ambiant album. Without a doubt, it creates an ambiance that you can follow like a movie. Get on the boat and live the adventure of The Hermit's Sanctuary! 8. Tripswitch is back with his 3rd album. I was very happy with the news until I saw the label, IBOGA. Its not the beautiful chillout downtempo that we know him for. Its Progressive. ( Read his reason for the shift! ) Check out for yourself and see if you like Samples, Video , Pre - orders and bunch of stuff over here : http://www.pledgemusic.com/projects/tripswitch-vagabond What do you guys think? Will it be a good album to enter the genre of progressive.? I wish he made more stuff like Circuit Breaker.
  9. Artist: Sibling Title: Forest of Illusion EP Label: Self Released Date: February, 2015 01 - Hybrids (88 BPM) 02 - Ki (105 BPM) 03 - The Gates (102 BPM) 04 - Soul Conduit (92 BPM) 05 - The Flood (117 BPM) "What the? You dumb Klan motherf*ckers, that's a white woman! Cut some damn eye holes!" Forests can be beautiful and scary. This is both. Sibling is Trent Thomas from Arizona and I'll be honest I didn't think Arizona had forests. Well what he does here is make some spooky and eerie forest downtempo music. Very dark and lush with a am I seeing things kind of feel. Slow, evil, glitchy groove with a prominent bass. Pretty trippy. This isn't the forest where the animals sing and help Cinderella put on her dress it's the one in South Park where they perform human sacrifice. Very interesting. Free at Ektoplazm
  10. Artist: Ascent & Argus Title: Four Oak Trees EP Label: Ovnimoon Records Date: May, 2013 1. Memories 2. Four Oak Trees 3. Over Mountain 4. Fairy Tale 5. Deep In Forest 6. Rising Sun "Where am I, what is this place?" Paradise my brother. Now get back to work, I hired you to clean the pool not lounge in it! These two brothers have produced some smooth music in previous efforts like The Perfect Element EP and their album Beyond Sight. This 6-track ep sees them up to their old tricks dropping some highly emotional downtempo gems. Haunting melodies abound and an atmosphere that floats from tribal to goa. Never in a hurry they use long breaks that help tell the story employing foreign tongues and exotic whispers. Favorite? Feel the heat as the sun bakes the sands in the lush downtempo goa track Rising Sun. If you love lush, melodic chill with an Asian vibe then do not hesitate to buy this. Ovnimoon Bandcamp Psyshop

  16. Artist: Ascent & Argus Title: Beyond Sight Label: Ovnimoon Records Date: September, 2013 1. Rain In Chords 2. Beyond Sight 3. One Day In India 4. Shining Star 5. Indian Spirit 6. Whisper 7. Secret Temple 8. Melody Through Time 9. Inner Peace Abbott & Costello. Starsky & Hutch. Rizzolli & Isles. All fictional television duos that have absolutely nothing to do with this album. Well, unless they're lying on the couch in their footie pajamas firing up the Netflix and doing a little binge watching. "Are you gonna even shower today? I asked you to take out the garbage 3 days ago!" This brother duo (one guess where they're from) has put together quite the relaxing chill album full of melancholic pads and ethereal voices. I knew one brother as Ascent who makes some kick ass progressive, but I'd never heard of his brother. Mystical and mysterious this delectably slow and ponderous journey moves deftly between downtempo and ambient sounding at times uplifting and mournful. It's a very full and lush experience with a closing track that utterly blew me away. I highly recommend this digital release from the seemingly always quality Ovnimoon Records. It's simply excellent. 17. Artist: Ailo Title: Concepts Label: Iono Music Date: November, 2007 1. Chronos 2. You 3. Contribution For A Healthier Mind 4. Subculture 5. Value of Life 6. Mrs. Annoying 7. Vibraless 8. Kiwi 9. Dewdrop 10. Yoohoo (l.u.) 11. Equilibria Etheria This is smoother than that guy. Beautiful soundscapes on a grand scale with ethereal pads, gentle accompanying sounds, and rich layers. What happened to these guys? This Greek duo released this one album and then disappeared. Did they retire to the wine country and live off the brilliance of their one album? It's mellow and relaxing with nature sounds, dubby bass at times, as well as entrancing feminine wailing. I'd call it singing, but I didn't hear any words. At times cinematic like the opening Chronos and other times quirky and glitchy sounding like Subculture. Value of Life sounds like Bladerunner after a bag of weed while Vibraless invites the listener to smile. Kiwi is downright funky breakbeat, It's not perfect, but a wonderful album well suited for those days when you're looking to drift away. Shame they only made one. Psyshop Beatspace

  19. Artist: Ascent & Argus Title: The Perfect Element Label: Ovnimoon Records Date: February, 2014 1. Galadriel 2. Water The Perfect Element Every now and then you come across something that just hits you right. Nails the perfect sweet spot for a specific moment in time and this two track ep did that for me. Ascent (Bojan Stojiljkovic) and I assume his brother Argus (Branko Stojiljkovic) have teamed up before with another EP and a full length album all on Ovnimoon. Haven't heard those, but this one stuck me. From the slow, gentle groove to the far away voices this downtempo quickie sounded really great. Remember that Enigma track that was all over the radio back in the early 90's? Of course you don't, you guys were probably in diapers. Anyway he appropriates that beat for a relaxing and mystical trip. But the show stealer is the 2nd track that just sounds so lush and packed with emotion. Really enjoyed this and will be checking out their other stuff. Psyshop Beatspace
  20. Artist: Various Title: Passages Label: Ultimae Records Date: April, 2014 1. James Murray - Passing Through Walls 2. Fingers In The Noise - Delicate 3. Cygna - Within 4. Brando Lupi - Opal 5. Miktek - Kinematics 6. Murya - Der Blaue Engel 7. Martin Nonstatic - Moments 8. Lars Leonhard - Deeper Direction 9. Aes Dana - Units 10. Connect Ohm - 9980 (Cell Remix) 11. Max Million - Skying 12. Zinovia - Northern Wind For those of us that don't worship at the altar of Ultimae this compilation appears to be nothing special. Typical cover art presentation with a nice photo. At first glance there are only a few recognizable names (for me anyway) and I was filing this under just the next album in the release train. You would think I'd know better by now. True the artists aren't the household names we've become accustomed to, but treat that as a negative at your own peril. This compilation does what Ultimae does. Soft, gentle downtempo with somber melodies and glitchy grooves. After the opening track (didn't like it, went nowhere) we're treated to relaxing grey day music. Delicate is just that; wispy tones as rain streams down the window. Within is open mouth discovery as I journey through a hidden ice cave. The strings give it a very cold feeling as percussive sounds ping off the walls. Opal is the exit from that cave bringing a vast frozen vista into view. Kinematics is a lush march that takes its time as does Der Blaue Engel, but the latter has more melodies and glitch. Shortest here, but more memorable. The rain falls during Moments and Deeper Direction picks up the tempo. Unlit by the guy I'm actually familiar with is rich and melancholy with some haunting piano. The Cell remix didn't do anything for me and I found it a tad boring. Skying has a full and hopeful sound and Northern Wind closes it out with some nice ambient piano. Ready for me to trot out the often used maxim? While none of the tracks themselves are stellar can't do without, the flow itself is the star. Very relaxing all the way through with rich sounds echoing the hallmark of Ultimae artists. It's not my favorite Ultimae release by far, but it's soothing, quality chill. If you buy the Flac version from Ultimae I think you get the continuous mix. Ultimae Psyshop

  22. Artist: Pineal Title: Cauda Pavonis Label: Blue Hour Sounds Date: December, 2012 1. Squaring the Circle 2. Cauda Pavonis 3. Pantalika 4. Stregatto 5. Nostoc 6. Zeta Landscape 7. Prime Numbers 8. Gravity Waves 9. Yonisphere 10. Induction 11. Moonbase Alpha This reminds me a lot of the Kaaya Project sound with its tablas and worldly vibe. You'll hear dubby basses melded with guitar painting a dreamy naturescape. Pineal is Domenico Canzoniero from *spoiler alert* Italy and his debut is a combination of real world instruments as well as some dissonant sounds which give the tracks an irregular feel. Certainly is interesting. Sometimes it plods slowly along (Stregatto) or it gets a little busy (Zeta Landscape). The whole thing is a little odd and can be difficult to fully embrace. There isn't an absence of melodies as much as there is a collection of sounds. Soundwise it's great and crystal clear thanks to your boy Aes Dana who did the mastering. Not for me, but if you're in the mood for something different give it a go! Psyshop

Finite (Pandora's Black Book Remix) "Once you actually start to look around...you start to wonder if you'd be doing society a favor by getting rid of all these people." Ok the Donald Trump hordes are getting out of control. Please know that this is a very vocal minority of people that follow this douche pickle. Imagine a not so distant future where the basic normalcy of life has been disrupted. Where democracy has ceased to exist and man has reverted to his more tribal instincts. Technology has evolved, but not all are privy to it and everywhere are faded and crumbling monoliths to our past greatness. Not prospering. Just surviving. Pretty much every post apocalyptic movie ever made. May I introduce you to its very bleak soundtrack. Human Error is Tom Box from the UK and he has created quite the atmosphere full of futuristic melancholy. He explores all areas of downtempo with breakbeats, dark ambient, and industrial glitch. It flows from still quiet to aggressive menace all while carrying its sense of dread like a scar. Worth a listen surely and it's one of those name your price digital albums. But I'll warn you the latter part leans heavily towards the industrial side of things. Human Error Bandcamp

Blood – Haujobb 14. Exo – Hijacker FLA are the Jaromir Jagr of industrial music. They haven't slowed down at all (at the time of this writing Jagr just scored the overtime winner for the Panthers) and just keep plugging away even though they're a rat's whisker away from getting the senior discount at the local Burger King. In 2013 they released Echogenetic to much acclaim fusing their hard edged style with today's music trends. So a year after that they now put together a remix album with a who's who of industrial music. I don't know who any of these people are the same way I don't know if the immigrant in the kitchen of my favorite restaurant isn't giving my meal a little bit of the old special sauce. Gotta trust. And pray. Lots of prayers. And trust me when I tell you they knocked it out of the park with this one. The remixes are lush and dynamic. On the headphones it was pure aural bliss. Electricity courses through android circuits and I'm reminded of how great industrial music can be. Millions of bits and bytes flow in unison; morphing, oscillating like a sentient being. The atmosphere is robot futuristic, sometimes ruthlessly aggressive but often placid leading to a dramatic eruption that will rattle some windows. There are moments where the remixers bring back the old sound of FLA and I can smile and reflect. The programming is off the chart. The Blush Response remix threatens to start an electrical fire and I'm convinced the HECQ mix was created by some form of Artificial Intelligence. On top of awesome remixes you get two new tracks that were co-written by Ian Pickering of the Sneaker Pimps. Both are rich in sound and detail, but I was floored by the eminent danceability of Next War. When that hook drops it will forcibly eject you from your seat. There are so many standout moments it's tough to single out just a few. Even though I, uh...kinda just did that. The only gripe I have is that there is a deluxe version where you get 4 extra tracks, but it's only available with the digital album. Pickard gets it. Look thanks for the lyrics of the new tracks, bu I bought your little digipak, shouldn't the extra tunes be a reward for not being a pirate? Rrrrr you serious? That minor complaint aside, if you're a fan of industrial music or even electronic music (and I know that you are) do not hesitate to pick this up. Metropolis Bandcamp Amazon
