  1. I am into making visuals lately. They aren't much, but it's better than having a frozen image.
  2. Artist: Argus Title: Field of Dreams Label: Altar Records Date: February, 2018 1. Long Gone 2. Glaciers of Oblivion 3. Followed By Light 4. Wind Song 5. Field of Dreams 6. Untouchable Mind 7. Ocean of Causes 8. Under the Mountain 9. Nemrak It's Saturday and I've only had one cup of coffee so what better way to chill than to listen to some, uh...chill. Argus is Branko Stojiljkovic from Serbia and for my money one of the best downtempo artists today. His style is drifting, melodic, and so welcoming. I haven't heard his album Architect of Time (my fault), but thoroughly enjoyed Deep Water and Beyond Sight. Right out of the gate with Long Gone he sets you up in your favorite lazy boy with ethereal vocals and a mellow groove. His style of slowly exploring the sonic space is delicious as the ear hunts for new sounds. His movement into and out of breaks is seamless and provides a stunning experience. The music vacillates between cold and warm, but always maintains a thoughtfulness or a melancholy tone. Tracks like Wind Song and Field of Dreams get into that mid-tempo style, but I don't believe that's where his strength is. It's when he stretches a track out, let's it take it's time and allows all the pieces to come together when he wields his greatest power in my opinion. A very good album that was perfect for contemplation between cups of joe. Altar Records Bandcamp Psyshop
  3. Mindspring Music Presents: Atmoswaves - Distant Horizons Out on Bandcamp Atmoswaves is an atmospheric space music collaboration between two Russian composers: Artem Vislov (Deepness Dawn) and Pavel Shirshin (Cosmic Replicant). This deep and profound project is an impassioned rendition, similar, perhaps, to the melancholy beauty of a cosmonaut lying in the colorful fields of a faraway world. It is simply unearthly, a warm and fuzzy production that looks towards the Distant Horizons of ancient frequencies in the form of progressive psybient and downtempo electronica. This heavenly array is perfect for morning meditations or evening walks through the woods, and it offers quite the auditory experience.
  4. Artist: Asura Title: Atmosphere Label: Altar Records Date: April, 2017 1. Frontiers (Final Mix) 2. Always (LS Vintage Edit) 3. The Bhaktas - Pitre Purus (Asura Remix) 4. Eternal Sunshine (Ambient Mix) 5. Le Souffle Du Vent (Second Mix) 6. Deva Delay 7. Reze (Unreleased Version) 8. The Savers 9. Interlude Sky (Remix) Doesn't add up. Another titanic project in psychedelic ambient and downtempo music has seen a bit of roster turnover and is now the solo project of Charles Farewell. Damn, that's a cool name. Even with the departures however this project attempts to continue where the previous album Radio Universe left off. Always leaning toward the dramatic and symphonic this album does so in places. Opening with a very majestic remix of Frontiers it calls to mind a soundtrack for a major motion picture in the making. Vast and lush. The uptempo Ambient Mix of Eternal Shunshine has resounding percussive booms that demand attention while Le Souffle Du Vent has a groovy swagger that I keep coming back to. Reze is another uptempo effort that combines exotic vocals with worldly instruments and a funky groove. Closing things out is a final uptempo track and it leaves me scratching my head and wondering when Asura became a progressive act. As I mentioned this is more of an uptempo or even progressive trance album than a downtempo one. This project has ventured down this road before, but I didn't think he would make an album like this. I prefer the ambient side way more as I found his uptempo stuff decent, but fairly unremarkable. The majority of this album doesn't contain the depth or gravitas I come to expect. So while pretty good, I found my mind wandering while listening to it. As a matter of fact I wouldn't hesitate to say it's the weakest Asura album to date. Altar Bandcamp Psyshop

  9. Hi all I would like to share some good news with you, I just released my first full length album on Ektoplazm Here are details : Obri – Afterglow 01 - Afterglow (62.5 BPM) 02 - Northface (95 BPM) 03 - Graphite (120 BPM) 04 - Shoe (feat. Kiki) (120 BPM) 05 - Sunday (123 BPM) 06 - Bushido (60 BPM) 07 - Granula (120 BPM) 08 - Cadde (Street) (122 BPM) 09 - Beyond (74 BPM) Here are some words from Ektoplazm : Afterglow is the debut album from Giorgi Dolaberidze AKA Obri, a musician from Tbilisi, Georgia. As a b-boy, rapper, and graffiti artist raised in one of Tblilisi’s Soviet-era suburbs in late 90s, Obri began exploring breakbeat and other electronic music genres, but was soon immersed in psychedelic trance music. Alongside other enthusiasts he founded GeoPsy, a pioneering underground psychedelic community in Georgia, and soon moved into production. These ten tracks summarize his long personal journey into sound, experimenting with different elements of psychedelia from deep ambient techno soundscapes to hypnotic acid roughness. Artwork by Digital Visionary Art of Giohorus. Mastered at CES Studio. I can say that album is pretty diverse, starting from acid ambient and exploring different aesthetics: techno, idm, dnb, experimental beats but you can feel psychedelic all over the album (that's my opinion at least) feel free to listen, download, enjoy, post your opinion, review, etc etc, it will be amazing Download from Ektoplazm or show some support on Bandcamp : Support on Bandcamp PS: Subscribe for more info on: facebook official page

  11. Klaada - Breaking The Cycle [Mindspring Music] https://mindspringmusic.bandcamp.com/album/breaking-the-cycle “Breaking the Cycle” is a concept album which revolves about finding emotions in yourself that you never knew existed. It’s a deeply spiritual quest of finding and dissolving so many layers inside you, going ever deeper, to the essence of your being. As emotional beings, we belong to never ending Cycles that determine the amplitude of the frequency we emit to the world around us and in us. This is a story about breaking the Cycle of frozen emotions, melting all the “Ice” that’s inside you, in an attempt to bring warmth and Infinite Sun in your being, to regenerate, to fill your heart with every colour you like. Relaxing and psychedelic, melodic and deep, ambient and experimental - this album takes you on a magical journey through the Shifting Stream of Emotions. 12. Artist: Various Title: Portal of Perceptions Label: Celestial Dragon Records Date: May, 2005 1. Ishq - Aphrodite 2. Makyo - Jasmine 3. Adham Shaikh - Ohm (Transfix Mix) 4. Aes Dana - Haze (Celestial Mix) 5. Androcell - Caribbeyond 6. Cell - Twisted Sun 7. Androcell - Fungus Garden (Acoustic Mix) 8. H.U.V.A. Network - Rain Geometries (Solar Fields Remix) 9. Ishq - El Morya What an rich and satisfying compilation. Mixed by Vincent Villuis himself it's 12 years old and still hitting all the right notes. All the projects are established in the downtempo genre and they are doing some heavy lifting. Lots of tribal percussion here with ethereal chants, breakbeats, and trance inducing dreams. Special mention goes to the sublime Ohm (Transfix Mix) which is everything you could want in a dreamy, mystical downtempo piece. I don't believe this sub label of Sonic Dragon Records is around any longer which is a shame because it certainly delivered the goods! Beatspace Digital

  14. Artist: James Murray Title: Eyes To The Height Label: Ultimae Records Date: December, 2016 1. The Black and The Grey 2. Holloways 3. What Can Be Done 4. Particles (Part 1) 5. Eyes To The Height 6. Ghostwalking 7. Passing Places 8. Laterisers 9. Particles (Part 2) 10. Copestone Ultimae has had a long history of quality downtempo and ambient releases and one could argue also defined the sound itself. Their albums are often dreamy, melancholy dances with the spirit world. Sometimes warm, but often cold and dreary they rarely fail to evoke strong emotions. I've been out of the Ultimae loop for awhile, but thought I would jump in with this release from James Murray. I have to say it ticks all the boxes on the checklist with it's slow, ponderous drift. And even though the album is of short length it is a slow plod. Not necessarily a bad thing yet I find it rather boring and uneventful without any drama. It's more a soundtrack to someone's personal loss or wilderness through which they must journey. It's ethereal without being overly melodic, but it does have that pensive, retrospective feel. It's not until the title track that it wakes from it's catatonia and shows a little motion and positivity. The tracks are relatively short which helps, but I cannot label this a standout by any means. I liked it but feel it works better as a full listen through rather than cherry picking tracks. I get the sense that it can be a grower because of this as it doesn't wow right out of the box. In fact I am warming up to it on multiple listens. Yeah, but I'm sure there's something else out there. Recalling similar atmospheres as Brian Eno’s Apollo music, Aphex Twin’s early works, and Boards Of Canada – CBL is the obscure soundtrack to a longstanding search between the nature of Earth and extraterrestrial existence. Best enjoyed with a bottle of wine (or two) and a massive pair of headphones.” With the recent wave of synthwave and electronic-heavy scores permeating throughout horror films, such as It Follows, Beyond the Gates, Maniac, and the like, bands like Carbon Based Lifeforms reminds us of other emotions that permeate through the genre. There is just as much beauty, wonder, and majesty to be had in electronica as there is in horror." The Long Silent Igor Čeranić otherwise known as Deimos and Perfect Blind has produced a lot of material as well as been the guy you could count on making other artist's work sound great. I've said it before, but he could do the mastering on my toaster and have it sound competent. I first heard his work as Perfect Blind with the stunning Three Spires Ep which you can download in all its FLAC goodness for free from Ektoplazm. He treads in various genres and has shown proficiency in all of them. Industrial influences abound within this dark and brooding album. He is the anti-Ultimae with sharp edged and rumbling waves of sound in a Orwellian post apocalyptic world. Tracks could have easily come from the minds at Cold Meat Industry as the desolation sticks to the skin like burning cinders. Long intros illustrate a panoramic grey landscape with lush textures. Ancient Machinery reveals the tools of a bygone age wet with corrosion and seeping with forlorn mechanical regret. Last Torch of a Dying Star with its thunderous percussion draws the lines of warring tribes readying themselves for conflict. Burning Mass is the result of that conflict with its distortion soaked guitar and blistering volume. Forseen Consequences surveys the charred battlefield steeped in loss and regret as the battle all but blotted out the sun leaving only mottled grey clouds. The Expanse is as boundless as its namesake while Abyssentient continues down the long road of human destruction. The Long Silent bears witness to what we have done. This is so f*cking interesting and descriptive it invites you to create your own futuristic movie. People please pay attention to this. I don't believe it's hyperbolic to say that Igor is our generation's Tim Schuldt. When music can evoke crystal clear images and an emotional response that's when you know the height of the art form has been reached. Drawing on industrial influences he creates a world I hope we never see yet at the same time I must see. Stratum is a special piece of music best enjoyed at full volume, listened all the way through when you have ample time to devote to it. Brilliant and breath taking and oh so vast in scope. P.S. I haven't heard the bonus Ep so therefore I cannot comment on it. Perfect Blind Bandcamp

  24. Artist: Robert Elster Title: Still Breathing Label: Joof Mantra Date: July, 2016 1. Deanimation 2. Antenna 3. Dilated 4. Marmelade 5. Dream Projector 6. Recrystallization 7. Straight To Base 8. Apollo 303 9. Trails 10. 2SC945P Hmmm....Once again proof you cannot judge a book by its cover. I could've sworn this was going to be something along the lines of an Ultimae Records release. Nope. This is Robert Elster (half of legendary Swedish trance act Vibrasphere) and even though that fabulous act is no longer active he is here to let you know he is still f*cking breathing. This is an album that screams from the rooftops that he is doing his thing and will not go gently into the good night. Seriously, he's doing his best Hardfloor impersonation. The tracks are f*cking loaded with warm kicks and growling 303's. Strong progressive drive with tracks like Antenna and Dilated is what Talpa would sound like with 303 usage. he understands how to plant the seed and watch a track thrive as it flourishes with layers on Recrystalization and the haunting Straight to Base. While most albums are looking for the door with the final track he slays with some funky, bubbly spice. Beautiful stuff that I feel went waaaaay under the radar. Don't miss it. Beatport
  25. Artist: Saluberrimae Title: Time Is A Flat Circle Label: Neogoa Records Date: March, 2017 01 - Trapped Inside (95 BPM) 02 - Jesenné Prebúdzanie Do Letného Rána (80 BPM) 03 - Jennifer Connelly (80 BPM) 04 - Time Is A Flat Circle (70 BPM) 05 - Loophole (70 BPM) 06 - The Abyss (95 BPM) 07 - Čiernobiela (70 BPM) 08 - Frozen (110 BPM) 09 - Večerná Ciga Na Balkóne (80 BPM) 10 - Gestonkenflapped (70/140 BPM) "I had a dream last night when I woke up, I remembered it but...just a moment ago...huh. It's gone" The downtempo/psychill side project of Lukáš Bartošek (Goatree) is a nice mix of dub, chill, and ethnic music with real instruments. There is so much to unpack here with a bunch of great ideas. A lot of the tracks have a repetitive phrase which brings a sci-fi feel as if big brother is watching. Very mechanical and sets the stage well. The title track is a pensive thinker that exhibits a slow, hypnotic burn. Loophole has a slow awakening like a beast being preparing for a strike. Čiernobiela has a post apocalyptic feel with a ponderous hip-hop beat. Reminded me of NIN Reptilian. Frozen turned into an industrial influenced crawl with a very throaty 303. Was that a bit of Southern guitar licks on track 9? Felt like a hot summer day on the Mississippi delta. So what it does, it does well. While I liked the ideas unfortunately a few did not realize their potential. Either there wasn't enough evolution or the great bits didn't last long enough. The jazzy elements in tracks 2 and 3 just weren't for me. It's good music and I like where he's going, but for the above reasons it misses greatness. But just.
