    I bought plenty of his old records through a bloke called Stefan. Say thanks to him for taking such good care of them =)

     

    On a more serious note, it'd be great if you could get him to elaborate on how he saw the music he produced in 94 and onwards, at the time that it was produced. Sort of a view into how they were thinking the inspirations, concepts and "goals" for the music.

    Will you play hiscore - identify? (always wanted to here that one and don't have the vinyl I guess nobody in Belgium has...) :) Btw don't forget in Belgium they play oldskool every week so please no people can fly and deedrah remix from leptonhead etc :) You've the vinyl collection so give it your best :lol:

    I'll try to mix it up a bit - if I play known tracks it will hopefully still be stuff that's not super-common. Not sure about Identify, it's so unique that it's sometimes difficult to work it into a set but I will certainly consider it =)

    This apparantly happens if you've got an unpaid Discogs invoice. Have you sold through Discogs and not paid the sellers fee? Can you change you collection to public in the settings or is it greyed out?

    There is absolutely no way I can be bothered to calculate that =) If someone feels like doing it for me, feel free to come by and start counting... Really, I would like to know. If someone's going to Stockholm and has nothing to do, there's always this =)

    Actually nowdays, ever since Heliopolis came out she has been listening to it everyday (i can't believe that she isn't tired of it yet :blink: ) to work and from work.. And no, she doesn't say/do this to be nice to me. She didn't like the tracks on Sky Input, but still was very supportive

    I can attest that this is true =) She dances to it too!

     

    My mom has a pretty severe hearing disorder so she's out of the question, but my dad likes the really messed up, unpredictable stuff. I think what caught his attention the most is the Shaolin Wooden Men 12" on Matsuri (he's a big fan of crazy far-out jazz) and he thought their A Binary Input To Flesh Antenna CD was cool too. In general he also likes stuff that blends organic ("real") sounds with the electronic ones. I recall him being pertty impressed with autechre as well, especially Gantz Graf (anyone who sees that video is impressed...)

    I bought this pretty much right after it was released back in 97, and I got the digipack. It wasn't until 2000 that I even saw the jewelcase version - before then I was unaware of its existence. However, the digipack says BR 032 CD 02 in the inner ring of the CD, so it might actually be made later than the jewelcase. The "repress" tag it's been given on discogs is incorrect I think, as the cigarette case design was the plan all along. Simon G told me so personally, but I never asked him about the release order and we haven't spoken in like a year. If it wasn't for the "02" I would be convinced that the jewelcase was a repress, as that would make more sense.

    Ah, now I understand. There are at least two things that makes this bassline different from a straight 16th note bassline:

     

    1. Shuffle, or "swing". Notice how the bass notes come in "pairs", that they are not separated with the exact same distance? This is usually called shuffle.

     

    2. A phaser. I can't be 100% sure it's a phaser (it could be some LFO modulation in the actual synth as well) but there is a bit of a "helicopter effect", in that the sound appears to move.

     

    And I actually think it's got some different notes in it, but the sound they use is so percussive in its nature that it's hard to tell. It could be some sort of delay overlapping as well.

     

     

    I'll see if I can find some more tracks that are like this - early son kite comes to mind, but you are already aware of that. You might want to check out another Tristan track from this era - "Tentacloid". It's not exactly the same style, but it has roughly the same effect, at least on me.

     

    EDIT: Check out some old Haldolium tracks. I think they had some basses like these on H2, and also check their remix of Atmos - "The Only Process". There's probably some early (trancey) Massimo Vivona tracks you'd enjoy as well.

    Sounds to me like the threadstarter is referring to 16th note basslines with just one single note, i.e. what pretty much ALL of darkpsy uses.

     

    It can be used well, but in 9 cases out of 10 (and that's being kind) it sounds much too static. You need either an analogue sound source (such as in the case of the Son Kite track mentioned) or some form of modulation, I think. Static repetition does not equal monotonous hypnotization.

    Because ambient often suffers more from surface noise than other music does; a single pop in a trance record is barely noticable, but in ambient it stands out a lot more. While I'm a vinyl freak myself, I actually prefer ambient on CD many times.

    oooooh =) =) =) I haven't heard from the Rhakti Dei people yet though, but there is still plenty of time...

     

    I should have added the original Futuris(t)ic Poetry in my list as well, because that and SYMBSP1 is all that's missing from my Symbiosis collection. I fear SYMBSP1 is much harder to find though.

    Asia 2001 - Live

    My budget for this is about 60 euro, which should not be totally impossible. But I've been patient for 11 years now... This is definitely #1 on my goa album wantlist.

     

    Asia 2001 - Psykadelia

    With this and Live I'll have completed all Trans'Pact CDs. I'm missing two vinyls as well. It would feel nice to have everything on Trans'Pact and both its sublabels... Doss House is already complete and on Subliminal I'm just missing one release.

     

    Dimenion 5 - Transdimensional

    Will settle for the re-relase since I have the triple vinyl. But if I can get it at 50 euro or so, of course I will buy it. But the current price of 200+ is out of my league.

     

    Hunab Ku - Magik Universe

    Made a somewhat cowardly bid on the cassette the other day, but didn't get it. Would prefer the CD of course.

    In general I hardly collect any goa trance any more - I already have so much... I try to buy more ambient and drone music instead, as well as experimental electronica and certain types of black metal. Once I get ahold of the ones above I will spend even less time hunting rarities.

    I think this album would sell less since it's a third album of "the same Filteria sound". I think we're close to a saturation point for that particulat "product", and in some ways it could hurt his legacy. The third album will sound very different, but with an energy level that is just insane. Think of where he took the Pleiadians sound and apply that same evolution and intensity boost to GNOTR, Transwave and Hallucinogen... and the technical level of production and arrangements have made a quantum leaps as well. So to release a third CD album with the old sound at that point would feel awkward.

    ...and even more on topic: The "Ze Remix" Of Rotate To Vibrate, which was finished before the album was sent to mastering, should have been on there. It's is vastly superior to the original version, and to this day I have no idea how anyone could have felt it was a good idea to opt for the original, which just feels crude and unfinished in comparison. Back when Jannis sent me Ze Remix I immediately compared it to the Pleiadians Remix of Blue Planet Corporations "Antidote" due to its elegantly perpetual, organic buildup and mutation. I don't whant to build expectations too high, but that track is really special for me...

    From my personal perspective, I'm inclined to agree. But then again, I get Jannis' records for "free", and I understand all too well that the market isn't really reliable enough for such an album right now. And if you just print 300 copies you'll lose money on each sale anyway... So as much as I hate the idea of buying music without the physical medium, I realize that at some point I will inevitably have to cave in. I dread the day...
