  1. Thats interesting to know...I always wondered why the pitch of drum samples sounds like its going higher as the notes get smaller and closer together....I do synthesize kicks and know that they are really fast downward pitch envelope on a sine wave that creates kicks...but I did not put 2 and 2 together ...Thanks

Glitch is a cool plugin...It can do lots of stuff :)

Sometimes there are some really nice free plugins available to us ...

(on a side note...My status says 'Warn Status'...WHy is that ? I have not used this account for a few years and just started using it a few days ago, once again...is that the reason? )

  2. Yes..Essentially ...it is playing 32nd and 64th notes and other divisions etc...but rather than sequencing it...it sounds like its been done with retriggering ...because there are some odd divisions which are quite hard to sequence...

Glitch does it well...along with pitch changes too...

This is a much better example...listen to this at 34:25 onwards....

anyway...there are many ways to do it I guess...

Similar things can be done with a tape delay effect...

    Thanks

  3. hi..i'v been learning to play the piano/keybd on my own...with resources off the net...

i got a program with my evolution midi kbd called piano teacher...

you can open up a midi file in it... it shows you the keys to play and then waits till you play the right note before moving to the next..

it allows you to see left and right hand seperately...

i'm sure there are other programs available like this one..

you will need a midi kbd with two or more octaves...but its really irritating if you have only two octaves...there are very few pieces that use only two...

i have found that learning pieces this way(using midi)has made it much easier for me to learn...

it also shows musical notation along with showing the notes on a virtual kbd....

  4. hi...

i feel that.. it is psychedelic because..

the entire frequency spectrum is filled up with different stuff going on in different frequency bands...

there are many sound chains going on at the same time...different people at different times catch on to different chains...

its like a carnival...so many things going on together that u dont really know what to look at... its very colourful...full of different timbres and textures...

also alot of depth is created by using various dynamics, effects like reverb,panning......

also the tempo and repetitive rhythms and bassline that progress through the track with slight variations tend to be hypnotic and trance inducing..

ofcourse what also makes it psychedlic is your perception, your mind and also whatever u are on....

  5. hi

i found that while coming off a trip its a very different feeling to sit down and make music...

it seems like even the slighest turn of a knob or the slightest adjustments can be felt and heard...since while on and while coming off a trip people tend to be more sensitive and perceptive..

also it took me alittle while to get into it...

also try listening to the stuff u made earlier (some days earlier ) while on a trip..it sounds sooo different...

u can kind of feel what is lacking...not just hear..

overall ..i dont thing u need to be on something everytime u wanna make music...but i do feel that to understand psy trance u need to have listened to it at some point under the influence of a psychedlic...

  6. hi..

does anyone have any tips on making psy trance leads using vst...like digital talk, parasense, psycho micro.........

how do they get such grungy sounds ?? i dont really know how to explain it.. its almost like a texture...

what are some good ways to create sounds for leads ??

the ones used for 1/4 ,8th,16th notes

    thank you..

  7. (for a long rising or falling siren sort of sound)

    open 3 osc in fruity...

lay down a 4 bar note in the piano roll..

use pitch lfo.. turn amount knob to the max or min... then turn speed knob to full right....u can also do it with pitch envelope but u get a longer rising effect by using lfo...

u can also use portamento where one note slides to the other...(low to high or high to lo)

also use filter cutoff or filter lfo...and effects like reverb or delay

you could also use porta to make the slide effect along with the pitch lfo with a high speed(full left) to get a different timbre..

try using a fruity generator synth rather than samples so u can use whatever note length u want... unless u are using loop points on the sample...

  8. try to get something like Ni battery( i think its called a drum sequencer)...

u can load it as a vst ... its like a map of your midi keyboard..you can map various sounds to the different keys of your keyboard...

    load a drum kit..

copy then paste the midi sequence into the piano roll of the battery channel..

then just highlight rows of notes and move to appropriate sound mapped to corresponding note in piano roll...

how good it sounds depends on the drum samples u use...

  9. hi..

does anybody know any good portable recorders ? i like to record samples from all over the place.. so far i've had a crappy digital voice recorder with a really bad frequency response and really low quality.

i found a few good mp3 hard disc players with a line in...also adjustable sample rates upto 48 khz..

there is one called neuros but it only seems to be available in the U.S

it comes with a built in battery and can only be changed at the factory..(which is miles away from where i am)

there is another called i river but this seems to be more of a toy with fancy features like picture viewer ,colour screen...

    it only records mp3...

there are very few mp3 players i have been able to find with a mic or line input..

i also found this new md player by sony with a new format called HI-Md.. unlike Md this format is able to upload files to the player via usb as a data transfer..it has lots of nice features but i like it because it can record 44.1khz in PCM format..

so far it seems to be the best option...

anyone got any suggestions or knows any other players ??there are better options like DAT or edirol's recorder but i am looking for something within U.S $ 300...and also would like something that plays music and is not solely dedicated to recording..

    thank you...

  10. hi.

i read most of the kick tutorials..

i still am unclear about a few things..

while layering two kicks how do u use a compressor?

two seperate compressors on both the kicks or do u use 1 compressor and assign both kicks to it ??

while using a parametric eq on the kick what filter type should i use low pass or low shelf..

is it possible to see an eq curve for a kick(also bass) on a website or as a tutorial ?

i know that it is not always the same for all kicks and tastes may vary..but it would still help to get a general idea..

    thank you..

  11. hi..

    i use fruity..

    as far as i know

i dont thing u can use slide/portamento on samples and general midi and soundfonts..

only with fruity generators(synths).. also some vst synths come with a slide or porta feature..

maybe u can use this featureon a sample by loading it into fruity granulizer..

    i dont know about cuebase...

  12. hi..

i'm not too sure about this..

but i think that the idea is to layer two bass synths with different wav forms like a sine to add the low end and a sawtooth..

    also..

i am not too good at this but i think that when u eq the two basses u should try to recognize what charecterictics of each layer u want to emphasize and boost those frequencies and cut out the rest..

i have trouble understanding layering bass aswell..envn though i have read quite a bit about it on this forum..

u should look up some of the past posts about bass...

    see u..
