  1. I like the composition. its an unuasual track, but composition vise for my taste much more interesting and trippy than many other things i have heard. i like how the track develops from kind of alien talks or so into epic melodic finishing. very well done.

the mixdown need some work though.on my labtop speaker e.g. i dont hear the kick at all. ive put other speakers then and realised, that ur kick is only moving in the deeper frequencies.

this can be improved quite easy if you choose or make a kick with a bit more klick sound as well.

same goes for the bass, also dont hear it well. i hear that ur kick has a lot of tail, so a lot of deep bass after the initial hit. i dont know if u cut the subfreqs in ur other instruments, so the bass has enough space. i feel its a bit muddy in lower part of the spectrum.

the hihats are a bit too loud as well.

so i think with a bit of improvement in these points, the whole track will soundquality wise sound much more clear and better.

and for the actual composition of the track i think its very nice as said. its a creative and individual track not feeling like a million other tracks. which is quite rare and i appreciate a lot.

Thanks a bunch! This is very useful advice!

  2. This is a track that I have been recently working on. The melodies/chords are simpler than my other work, but I tried to go for a hypnotic approach with lots of repetition in a "outer space" themed track.

Note: I use FL Studio's step sequencer/channel rack only. Not playlist mode. I prefer the step sequencer because I can make the track feel more natural in a "live" way when I record.

    Criticism is wanted!

  3. Hi guys, I'm looking for a certain type of tracks. I seem to have a hard time finding so called 'darker' oldskool songs. It doesn't need to be hard, intense or overly acidic, that's not what I'm aiming at. A perfect example would be Nanosphere Courier by Bypass Unit. The sinister atmosphere this song produces is exactly what I'm looking for, but these tracks appear to be rare to me. Does any of you know some good examples or great songs? :)

Well, Nanosphere Courier is more of a moody dance track to me, but okay.

  4. Huh, this was quite a unique piece! Some of the harmonies felt very unconvectional, but as a fellow lover of weird trance I dig it   :D I checked out some of your other songs on the channel to get some more perspective and there's certainly some interesting music there! Enjoyed Pine forest alot

Thanks! I was going for a weirder, more intelligent type of track, and Pine Forest is mainly just Drum N' Bass with really good sub-bass.

  5. So I really like goa, especially oldschool, while my friends prefer techno,

drum'n bass, hardbass and other pump. That leads to frequent discussions about

whether and why the typical "thumpy" goa kickdrum is "lame".

My friends always argue that the kick lacks bass, and that, if it were more heavy

on the bass, it would sound a lot better. Since I'm not a producer and don't really

know anyone who makes goa, I instinctively just argue that a very bass-heavy kick

would crowd out the track too much, overshadowing all the other stuff in the track.

So I wanted to ask someone who makes goa why the thumpy kick is so ubiquitous:

Is it just a stylistic choice or is there more to it?

P.S.: Why is goa so polarizing, with it being very unpopular, but people thatt like it being very into it?

About that P.S. you have, Goa Trance has a niche audience, so it isn't "popular" per-se, but people love it dearly.

  6. I dig the style and arrangement ideas - it's sort of like a psychedelic acid / minimal techno (sounds like Jeff Mills occasionally!).

But, the mixing is really lacking - it's muddy, there's whole lot of distortion and frequency clamping ("Deep Breaks & Good Vibes" is painful to listen), volumes are out of balance, some sounds are way out of tune (especially in "Orbital Frequency", which has its own charm in a way...).

I'd say that definitely sounds 'amateur' but there's nothing wrong with it - everyone is starting somewhere.

If your music still sounds like this in 1-2 years, then either give up or call it your personal style. And there's nothing wrong with that either - I had a friend, who was doing drums out of piano samples and played "melodies" with hi-hats and his music was still awesome, because it was very individual, creative and unusual :)

I checked your old goa trance you made, and I have a question. How would you make multiple melodies like you did, throughout the track?
