  1. Year was 1996 and the track that got me hooked was Unconscious Collective - "Fluorostani Transcendance". Still one the best tracks ever. Before that I got into electronic music by Prodigy which I was hooked on for a period (I used to go to a record store to listen to "Out of Space" many times until I had the money to buy the cd) but they basically my entry to electronic music and they weren't all that interesting anymore when I discovered Flourostani Transcendance.

To be honest I rarely listen to goa anymore. When I do it's mostly Sundog - "Touch the Sun" (which was also one of my favorites back in the early days) and sometimes the long intro of Etnica - "Mystical Appearance in Goa".

  2. I find it quite peculiar when hardcore Psy-heads pick the much more conventional and formulaic Psychopod/Saiko-Pod over the old Koxbox classics. It's not that I don't like the Psychopod Ep's a lot, but I always regarded them as a "poppy" easy-listening version of the real thing - Koxbox.

Interesting view. I have always regarded Psychopod-project as the more relentless, complex and crazier counterpart to Koxbox. Faster and heavier... None-the-less both projects are the epitome of psychedelic music imho.

I think this is a question of whether you think of Psychopod as the "Dreampod/Psychopod" single or their "Headlines" EP. While their Dreampod single is somwhat complex, it's also pretty straight forward, melodic and can be percieved as "poppy" easy-listening. Headlines on the other hand is anything but, very complex and probably their least (including Koxbox) accessible and least immediately enjoyable release; it takes a lot of listenings to really appreciate it and find out how brilliant it is (at least to my experience). In my opinion both sides of Psychod are truly brilliant and on par with Koxbox.

Their conditions wary quite bit from NM to very used (all seem to play w/o noticeable side effects) but given the price I paid I can't complain. And the Flying Rhino LP sleeves are sooo beautiful :)

  4. I dunno about hiphop but my favorite reverb for vocals is for sure this And it's free :)

Lots of reverbs are good at creating realistic acoustic spaces which often sound very cold. It's harder to find a "warm" reverb which are usually the nicest for vocals imo but this one is pretty satisfying.

Here's a good setting for that rev (at least for my voice): Size ~20%, Brite ~65%, Wide ~50%, Mix ~40%, Noise ~0, Grain ~10%

  5. well... more idmish sound, just like kettel early work, if you heard him

Sounds like you could do with some fm and some organic/ethnic sound generation. I'm not an expert in softsynths but these guys make some very interesting ones to check out: DashSignature

(If nothing else, I must recommend their FREE daHornet synth as a must have. Especially for fat bass sounds. It's very simple but its core sound is up there among the best nonfree softsynths.)

  6. I gotta say I'm very disappointed with the sound quality of iPod which I frankly think sucks. I dunno much about the mp3 player market (I can imagine many or most of them are of similar quality) but if I was to buy a new one, I'd make sure the sound quality is considerably better than the iPod as the first thing.

Much of the bad sound quality thing is probably due to the mp3 format itself but that's for sure not the whole story.

This is wrong. The sound quality is limited by the earphones, not the iPod. The default iPod earphones suck, but the sound quality is fine with my Shures. :)

And it is almost impossible to hear the difference between an mp3 and a WAV anyways.

No that's not wrong lol - ipod sound quality do suck - and I've never used the crappy defaulft iPod phones (all in-ear phones, I've heard suck big time, including 100$ price tag ones). I use studio standard AKG k141 studio phones which are very very good and which are probably why I can hear that the iPod sound quality sucks.

That said, I dunno if the mp3 player market in general offer better sound quality than iPod but it'd surprise me if there weren't some that do.

  8. It might bother me that they quickly would dissapear in the mass of sticks lying around, but truth is that i would still feel more secure having sticks around as you state they don't scratch. the only thing bothering me might be that unlike the cd it isn't analogue, which would mean that the quality of the sound might be worse than a cd. i don't have my head into all the format battles so i still prefer my sound at least 192.mp3 files, i mostly rip my cds in 320, but im thinking of going down to 256. Just a quick sidestep there, so as i was saying with sticks i'd feel more secure. but it might not have the same collectors value as a cd. I coulnd't imagine sticks going on discogs for the same price as the rare cds. And i still hope that all the pamplettes will get included as in the cd-

    CD isn't analogue, it's 16 bit/44.1 khz digital

And yeah let's see that wall of yours :)
