I think what AlieNed means by 'strange' is that it isn't all that psychedelic, that perhaps it's evolved too far to be considered psy in character.

Don't think there is any better out there than Cybernetika for psy-dnb, but hey that track that I posted was very close actually. I'm still waiting for the next Darkpsy-influenced Darkstep track to come out yet, someone make it happen!

  2. Well sounds stange , what they envolve into next time ? Psychedelic house music or Psychedelic rap

So you're saying styles like Psybreaks and Psytechno are a complete waste of megabytes and gigabytes? Might aswell ban Psytrance for the lulz. Get rid of the root of it all.
  3. Well just because most of full on is bad that doesn't mean I can excluded from the scene, does it?

If it was up to me, it would've probably been done a long time ago. Same for 90% of Israel's take on it, gone...with the wind... and most "strongly melodic" darkpsy would be called fullon instead.

    Just my 2 cents.

  4. With 99% of the fullon out there, would you even like fullon to be associated with psytrance??

"herp derp, Perplex is making some nice psytrance and the newest IM is so sooper dooper pooper sounding, which retard wouldn't like this shit? Darkpsy lovers maybe? LOL..."

  5. Wow, so you guys are claiming all the true old "goa" tracks I liked were actually just psy tracks made in the 90s?

I consider old IM, Hallucinogen and GMS to be favorites and for once I was CONVINCED they were really goa and not psy.

This proves that my "liking"-ratio between psy and goa is almost the same as with drum & bass and jungle (all for drum & bass, none for jungle), although I really love Bypass Unit and Moonweed for goa, or are they also oldschool psy?

  6. Psy is underground and needs to stay underground. There is already a lack of good stuff in the psy-scene (just like in any genre's scene actually), the more money getting involved the shittier the results will always get. I think it's best for psy to stay away from commercialism, otherwise everyone will go skazi and then there will be a time where everyone of us will be remembering the good old stuff getting released in the early days and use it as a counter-reaction to the fact of how shitty psytrance and goa has become. If you want more examples, look at dubstep.

  7. Greetings Ids!

First you should clarify if you want to DJ or produce. You'll need different stuff depending on which it is.

Assuming you want to produce new music: in general, you'll need synthesizers/samplers, MIDI sequencing and audio editing/mixing. There's lots of free software synthesizers, and lots of good ones that aren't free. Digital Audio Workstations (DAWs) which combine MIDI and audio are not as free. There's a couple that are free/cheap, but the more popular ones cost a bit. Cubase and Ableton Live are both quite popular, but aren't cheap.

Personally I love hardware synths, but they're not cheap either. At the least you'll probably want a MIDI controller to control software synths. Some people do without and do everything with their mouse, but I suggest a controller.

What about studio monitors or at least some really expensive headphones?

They don't get sold for nothing I think.

  8. I've got the same problem as Abasio really. I quite often link to old and new psy on my facebook profile but the one's that like it or comment on it are my friends who listen to psy anyway, or in some really rare cases open minded people who enjoy a track or two but just don't want to "dive" into the genre. On the other hand, if I let people who do not know the music listen to some tracks the most recurrent answer is that they don't "get" it and hence don't want to listen to it. Or, it drives them crazy (well I always tell them that that's the same thing it does to me, or what it should do, but even that they don't seem to get. "Why would you listen to something that shakes you out of your ordinary rut?" is what a lot of people seem to think.).

My point being, psytrance will never appeal to the whole world, because it is more or less an acquired taste, and is closely correlated to a way of thinking and a lifestyle that is too radically different from most people's. I'm not saying you shouldn't promote it, I would love for everyone to experience the things I feel when listening to a good track or dancing to one at a party.

Also: "Getting media attention is, for an underground scene, the kiss of death." :P

"Crazy noise for mushroom-munchers" is what I usually get as response to psytrance or goa.
