  1. I think that art as a result of creative impulse for the sake of expressing oneself will generally turn out "better" than art produced as means of making money/a living. I'd say a collective is when discernable entities are unified in some way (I guess at least some form of communication between the individuals is necessary for them to become a colletive in whatever regard). For example I would say that my body is a unification/collective of cells. So when 1000 people who have never even communicated in any way, have in common that they (as a hypothetical example) downloaded and listened to a mix of mine, that does not make them a collective. I don't think the fact that they all did the same thing really unites them. If you made a list of all those 1000 people you could probably say they are "united" on that list, but even then I can't see how one could say that this would make them (feel like / act/function as) a collective. Writing their names on a list (much like the fact that they all downloaded and listened to the same mix) doesn't really change them, you have just chosen to see them as a "collective" now. I'm off to bed.
  2. You know what I did... I started this thread. I don't need a collective to appreciate my work. I have made plenty of mixes only for myself to listen to. If you absolutely have to make art for others, why do you need more than a single individual appreciating it to be able to see worth in it? Or why a collective instead of 1000 individuals who are independent of each other?
  3. I can pretty much rule out the cdplayer as being the culprit because I have 6 of them. I don't touch my cds with dirty hands, when I touch them it is with one finger on the outer edge and one finger inside the small hole, or on the artwork on top of the cd, if I need to pull them out of the bag. They either go directly from the cdbag into the player or the other way, or in rare cases are carefully placed in the cdbag without being properly inserted into their place or on a cloth that usually covers the dj-cdplayers and mixer when they're not in use. My flat is not especially humid or dry and there's no fungus afaik, it was completely renovated before I moved in 2 years ago. Anyway I am trying to find out why it's mostly the very last track that isn't playing properly, which I can't really attribute to bad luck on my part.
  4. Or maybe I just perceived it to shine the same kind of light I have always emitted all by myself. I have always been an an anarchist. Anarchy to me means absence of hierarchy, while hierarchy means that one person is in some regard (usually power) above (has power over) or below (does not hold power over itself in some regard) another person. There can be personally agreed upon or natural hierarchies (like a student/master or child/parent hierarchy), but nowadays most people find themselves to be at the bottom of hierarchies they never agreed to, which can easily lead to feeling oppressed, which is a very bad feeling or to feel to be at someones mercy, which is even worse. How reading a text can turn someone into a lunatic is beyond me. With "it", do you mean leftist-labelled ideas/political structures? So how do they work?
  5. Do you think the text only fooled me into thinking there was something to relate to?
  6. I'm not talking about music playing backwards, I'm talking about playback problems, like when the cd is not playing steadily but jumping forwards and backwards, skipping some seconds over and over again.
  7. I listened to the last tracks of the cds I was not 100% sure about. Total cd playing times are: VA - Dark Lines 67:18 VA - La Familia 78:39 Filteria - Daze of Our Lives 75:04 Crop Circles - Tetrahedron 78:55 Psysex - Expressions of Rage 74:01 Banco De Gaia - Big Men Cry 68:00 Electric Universe - Higher Modes: last track plays perfectly, contrarily to what I remembered. So for 6 out of 7 cds with playback problems they are on the last track. edit: corrected some grammar and wording.
  8. I have a Marantz CD5004, a Cambridge Azur 640C, 2 Denon Dn-S3000 and 2 Denon Dn-S700 right now in my flat. The former two are stand alone (entry level) hifi cd players, the latter 4 are dj-cdplayers. I have never owned a car or any car radios/cd players. I can't even remember having a brand new audio CD with playback problems on anything else than the last track. The great majority of my CDs play back flawlessly. Looking through my main CD bag, consulting my memory, I count 1 cd where a track has a problem that is not the last track, but 3 where it is the last track out of ~10 tracks each (all 4 are original CDs). Going through my secondary CD bag, on all of the 4 cds with playback problems it is exctly the last track, also all original CDs. Out of 95 original cds 8 have playback problems and on 7 of these 8 it's the last track.
  9. Maybe this should be posted in off topic->tech talk, but I want lots of people to read it and, since lots of psytrance is on CDs, it's not _that_ off topic I guess. Anyway, I noticed when one of my CDs has playback problems (even, or maybe, even mainly with brand new original CDs) more often than not they occur on the very last track. Did anyone else observe the same? Does anyone know anything about this? I have noticed this across 6 different cd players, so these are clearly not to blame.
  10. At least It does so on the flac file I downloaded from bandcamp. I just checked discogs and I'm afraid it's going to be the same for the actual cd because track length of the flac and track length listed on discogs for Ka El Mondo are identical (6:05).
  11. It's possible. I don't know much about this, but here is a starting point: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hypercube
  12. I just lucked out and ordered the very last copy that was available on the bandcamp page. edit: it's still available on discogs, though, so nobody panic (like I did).
  13. Great trade, really smooth sailing. Thank you!
  14. I had one psychotic episode in my life, 6 years ago and have a diagnosis, but I feel healthy now and have so for a while. I took mediaction for almost 5 years, stopped taking it about 15 months ago and even though I didn't feel any side effects while I took meds it seems that I made extremely slow progress in getting better at juggling or playing chess compared to now.
  15. overgeneralizing: for most of my life it was ~1, ~5,5 or ~10, now it's mostly either ~3 or ~8. taking the mathematical average it's the same, but qualitatively that's a big improvement for me.
  16. in general: old school goa/old school psy trance > new school goa > Twilight south-african psy > "good" full on > ~2000 techtrance > atmospheric/melodic psy progressive (light or dark doesn't matter) > everything above 150bpm would look slightly different if specificially for partying or home-listening
  17. is that celebrity gossip? on psynews? the first noble truth is true after all...
  18. so many great sounds, I'm glad there is so much to explore that I don't know, yet
  19. Yes, it was about 10 years ago. Someone merged a post-it-sized piece of paper that I had torn into 3 pieces and balled up back into the original, untorn, piece of paper while it was inside my fist. Maybe I didn't really tear it into 3 and he just made me remember that, but I have no reason to believe so, except that this experience would maybe be easier to explain in this way, because the explanation wouldn't leave the field of psychology then and therefore not necessarily invalidate common physics. I was sober at the time or at at least not more than slightly stoned, if at all.
  20. I played Swiv 3D back in the day and didn't actually really realize how awesome the soundtrack of that game is. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7SnUGgsVnQw http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kogf3PdAGVo :posford:
  21. The first cd I bought myself at a shop was VA - Rave Now! 5 when I was 14 years old. I had hardly listened to music before that because I didn't really like any music I heard ariound me. http://www.discogs.com/Various-Rave-Now-5/release/138538 I listened to the first track and it was a revelation. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=50RAG6p9RC0 The next two releases (about a year later) were VA - Goa Head 3 and VA - Chakra Red. Then followed VA - Dream Creation - The Sound of Freedom I think. Kind of funny how the only goa/psy releases that were available at my more or less ordinary whatever-media shop ("LIBRO") at the time were imo really good ones.
  22. I lost a case with about 50 original goa/psy cds about 10 years ago. I don't even remember if I forgot it in the train or if it slipped from the back of my backpack when I rode my bike home from the train station. I rebought maybe 5 or 10 of those during the last few years and have probably close to 100 original cds in my goa/psy collection right now.
