  1. do you have examples of goa songs using Dorian scale?

It is one of the scales i use the most mixed with blues scales, when playing funk or blues. They use it a lot in classic rock etc, but wouldn't know any song that pops in my head using dorian.

    Maybe in those funky songs?

example of really cool dorian licks is Santana - Oye Como Va (original from tito puente)

  2. Time to bump this one :)

Especially dominant or minor scales would sound the best..

The scales who sound most arabic, spanish, indian are:

    -Phrygian (Diatonic flamenco scale)

-Phryhian Dominant or Spanish Gypsy, also called Jewish scale as stated above (used in Juno Reactor - Pistolero)

-Arabic Scale is same as the Bairav, used in Dick Dale - Misirlou, which is basically the scale played up and down, sounds very exotic and mystic ;)

all these 3 scales are pretty similar and can be blended depanding on the chords underneath them.

Aeolian or Natural Minor will also work and sound more western

i think used in Spiritual Healing.

Harmonic Minor is also very useful (Phrygian Dominant is a mode from it).

Also mix these scales or alter them sometimes for a more out of the box sound. You can always use passing notes for greater effect, just don't stay too long on them, train your ears ;)..

A very popular chord progression which uses 2 scales (Aeolian and Harmonic Minor), used in lots of songs in every genre is A minor, (G major, F major) and E major. Use regular A Aeolian over the first chords and when you hit the E major chord, change to A Harmonic Minor (or E Phrygian Dominant it is the same ;). When you examine these chords (getting technical here :)), you will see why. E major= E G# and B. A Aeolian doesn't have G#, but has G instead wish will kind of clash with G#, but A harmonic has the G#, which will also resolve excellent to the A minor chord again.

This may all sound very difficult and like Latin for beginners, but look up some basic theory about scales and chords and it will sort out pretty easy.

Some scales who can be used for a more funky sound are Blues Scale (probably used a lot by Cosmosis and GNOTR), Pentatonic Minor and Dorian.. also try some Pitchbending for getting funkier notes ;)

Wouldn't use a lot of major, because this sounds cheesy in electronic music for most of the time, but i guess there are a lot of great tracks who prove me wrong.

    Overall these simple notes

    E F G# and A in a row make a typical eastern feeling and are (over)used in Goatrance :).

  3. This is remarkable stuff, nothing less. I just want to warn Cronomi: if music this good is given for free, then I want the releases I will be paying for to be twice as nice, which is, given the standards set by your last compilation, a tough achievement for anybody!

Quality through and through, Artha delivers a breed of psy trance which I haven't heard done this well for more than I can remember. Detailed, aggressive, well thought out, and most important, listenable at virtually any given occasion, and effective regardless of your mood.

I absolutely adore how Artha just builds, morphs and adds layers to already existing sequences and leads, as even the longest track here doesn't have a dull second in it.

To me, however, the largest plus of them all is gained because Artha seems to be the only artist around who realized how goa trance isn't necessarily about sun rays and rainbow colors. Not that I mind sunny days and warm weather, but some of us actually prefer dancing before six in the morning, and I don't want Kindzaza or any of his derivatives to be my night time soundtrack, and no, no disrespect intended. Second to that, another plus goes to the fact that his sound isn't encompassed within the rigid borders of any determined style and/or subgenre. Damn it, he just makes fantastic psy trance, period. His music is just out there, far reaching stuff which doesn't rely on any conventional elements, structural patterns or arrangements in order to satisfy demands of a targeted audience.

I really, really like this EP. I just openly and honestly hope his album won't let down. One too many times has it happenned that a promising act bit the dust and swallowed the ashes. Fingers crossed.

    Excellent work here!

just checking this out and this is fantastic stuff indeed! but two weeks ago i saw a 3h set by Kindzadza and in terms of psychedelic music Artha is no match at all to kindzadza! Kindzadza his new music is really gooood btw, but still that's not necesarry and if you need melodies in your (psy)music you will prefer this more ;) will check this album for sure, respect to Artha
  4. Hi folks, as far as I can remember it's been 5 years i have been producing music, so to celebrate it made a summary in form of a small set!

Most people know me strictly from goa, so that's why i didn't put too much typical stuff from me in it, but more unknown tracks who rarely got some playtime in my set, cuz they didn't really fit the darkpsy context.. Some tracks don't sound 100% finished, that's because some were made during times I was less educated than now or because I was too lazy and put more time in psytrance music. But all of the track have good ideas or nice feeling. This set contains a lot of different emotions because, so it fits the context of 5 years that passed by cool

I will post the tracklist with some genre discription and date i made the track:

Pain In Spain - Indian Hippy Guitar Bollywood Soundscapes 2009

Obscure Minimal - Weird Liquid Minimal Techno 2008

Acidprog - Minimal Technoish ElectroTrance in a blended Progression 2009

Acid Infection - Psychodelic Acidtrance Grooving with some Fluffy Silk Waves 2006

Disco Blues - Filthy Funkbassed Happy Electro 2009

    Discocrooking - A Wrong Discodelic Suomitwister 2008

Funky D - Another Funkadelic Porngroove on the Move 2009

Jazzybass - Jazzy IDM with some Neurotic Tendence to add Distortion 2009

Bad Stories Need A Happy Ending - Chaotic Drill 'n Bass with a Carnival Organ at the end 2009

Don't Dance to this one - This blend of Fucked up Disty Psytrance beats with some Glitchy Noisecore influences (works the best when having a good ol' hangover to push out some extra vomit 2007 (=> maybe that's why the sound is so ugly lol =) ))

Voile Moile - Same Shit but less dist and more melody

Hapercore - Straightforwarded Perverted Breakcore 2007

Splittersessie - Over 500 bpm Splittercore made during a frustrating exam moment, really dirty track, which is better to skip if you want to save your ears 2006

So overall returning elements are acid, breaks, funky shizzle, wrong disco, trancy, core, chaos, psychedelic, contrast, floathing sounds and distortion.

It would surprise me if there were actually people who like all these tracks, because they differ a lot from eachother and are made in a lot of different moods like happy, stressy, serious, joking, agressive. Hmm maybe this is a perfect set for crazy girls having moodswing thx to their periods or young boys still finding a scene to fit in (like me?)

Well all in all I think there is a moment for everyone, even if it is just for the moment you can take a vomit during the last tracks instead of taking the usual piss during the break Wink

I guess now I should stop being a melodramatic nostalgic whiner and give you guys the link smile

Enjoy and thx to al the people who supported me and let me play on their parties!

  5. First of all. Some tunes on this CD are really good. Especially "Bekhudi".

Others don't do it for me.

I think you did a pretty arrogant statement here.

Music isn't about understanding. Music is about taste and experiences you connect to some kind of music.

indeed not all tracks are excellent

music is both about taste and understanding..

some music you first have to understand to acquire a taste for it..

that doesn't mean that music that is easy to understand is bad

  6. like the most chaotic music I have ever heard without being aaron funk!

haha i like this quote :posford:

like venetian snares, psykovsky is one of the only artists who can make this fucked up uptempo music without being random or flat..

this is maths in form of music, people who don't understand this don't understand psytrance in his pure form and should go back to regular trance

  7. at first my favorite track was Iron Tag, but now I'm really amazed with Puzzle Fussion!

man that track is sooo good and pure that it is even beautiful!!

I get shivers all the time from it, this is really perfection to the bone :drama:

  8. It's OK but it doesn't blow my mind the way Uncanny Beats did. And I'm pretty sure you're wrong about all the BPMs being over 160.

Uncanny Beats is exactly that...UNCANNY. As in you can't comprehend what the hell is happening to you. Listening to it is like stepping into an elevator which promptly starts plummeting into a black hole and then the Devil takes over control of the Muzak.

This is a cool release but it's just not on that level.

indeed most tracks are in 150.. 3 are in 160 and one is in 170..

Uncanny beats is a bit better, but this one is also a masterpiece

Track 1,3,4,6,7 and 9 are reaaaaally good..

i'm not that fond of some parts in track 5 and 8 but still great tracks.

Together with the Osom Va the best album of 2008

    9.5/10
