  1. Since I've had a kid, I listen mostly with headphones. But decent ones (AKG K240 MK2 at home / Creative Labs Aurvana In-Ear 3+ at work).

Before that I was listening on an equally decent hifi system (Cambridge amplifier + my good old Jamo loudspeakers).

Nothing too expensive because like everyone else here my audition isn't mint, but decent and not bassy (or it hurts after a few hours).

I miss using the hifi system BADLY. Sometimes a track is good at the vibrations it gives and headphones, now matter how good they are, can give you the feeling. IMO that's the way to go for "curation".

  2. So, "Will there ever be a successor to Apsara ?" What is that supposed to mean? Both on the first and on the second level... This is naive at best...unless this is plain crafty.

Aaah Ward, how to tell you ?

Let's assume I didn't write the above post.

Works of art are like a kaledidoscope over the world. You're looking at one point in a system you don't really undertsand and can't control, on which you have no idea how the people will react. One second passes, one degree shift, and the image you're looking at has completely changed. But you might still be pleased at it. Others might not. Or might?!

Trying to recreate a past image is vain. Would you suceed, you have no guarantee your audience would like it to the extent of the effort you put into it.

My favorite Suntrip comp is Temple of Chaos (note: this statement may change over time). Did I ever think of making another one like that? No, didn't even think about it once. Because the kaleidoscope rolls. We go with the flow. Artists lead the show. We are like photographers, we take a snapshot WHEN we can, IF we can. And in the end our job is similar to devloping the photograph under the red light.

  3. Ward, we caught you red handed, we have written evidence you slandered about us on our backs. Repeteadly.

We had a talk about it, you and me, in 2014, remember? You didn't even deny it. There's been so much mud spilled that other people like Psychedelic Alien have noticed. So please stop making a fool of yourself with your smileys and have the decency to keep a low profile on this.

Before you start denying/arguing/whatever, remember: we never tried to do any wrong to you. Because after all you do release Goa music...and at this point I know I'll never be tired to say we are more powerful for our cause altogether.

  4. This is one of the best chill albums ever made...

Complex in structure, deep, ... all you need for wondering in a dark creepy, though fairy tale-ish story. Extremelly atmospheric, not only by creating a good sound, or production (wich is so damn high here and sounds so fucking professional), but also the emotions put into it made only stronger by the well put voice samples.

My Equators hardly can handle the intensity of this music :P

Also the mixing of the sound layers is done perfectly: gives it a smooth overall, gliding feeling.

The sound they made is very unique, what makes is stand out far and high from the more generic neo chill out of these days or most of the ultimae & Co stuff that seems it has been produced in the same studio with the same settings.

Nothing but good about this CD. I always wished they'd made more off this stuff :)

    10/10, and I wish I could give'm more :). what the hell, I'd say: 15/10 :P

That's exactly how I would have worded this review.

    A tremendous album!

  5. Well, the conditions weren't met to make music in decent conditions. He's was living in a 25 sq meter appartment with his wife, baby and studio.

Though we had updates once in a while. Tracks were being reworked, chopped, rebuilt, reorganized...

Now they just moved to a bigger place and we can expect more regular updates and improved psychedelia thanks to a more peaceful environment.

So, no ETA at the moment, but this is becoming very positive.

  6. Nah. No need for that, really. And the scene needs you by all means necessary.

Initiatives from everywhere in the world are necessary. It's clear the Croatian scene has spared no effort already. Be sure there's no forgetting that.

Over Facebook I told you this story of the interview of the CEO of my "daytime" company. Things don't always add up perfectly to fulfil everyone. We don't have/need a PR dept and I am still convinced our Goa world is better with this interview than without.

You know I don't get out often because I can get tired very fast, but this summer I'll be out. We'll have great opportunities to promote the music we love. As far as I'm concerned, I'll try to prepare some keywords and some speech, so the appropriate good words are sent in every direction.

  7. This documentary was about Suntrip Records, and the resurgence of Goa Trance we influenced. This is exactly what Boom Festival asked us and that is exactly what it is. And that is the reason why only our album artists are mentioned. Which is a logical think if they make a docu about us.

Of course everyone wants their artists to be mentioned...

    Exactly.

But let me tell you something: at the Connection festival last year, Anoebis and I were staying at the far end of the camping area. On the day I arrived, it struck me it took us 45 minutes to reach the dance floor. Why ? Because people kept on coming to us and asking questions about artists, releases and Goatrance in general.

Even though our strolls aren't quite peaceful, this is a golden opportunity to "hammer" about our movement.

And not only about Suntrip : we're true to our DNA; no label is "forgotten", no country is "forgotten" if need be during the conversation. Like it was in the complete version of that interview.

What I mean is: after 12 years, at last, we have enough momentum to participate to such events. You can trust us to spread the good word about Goatrance! And you should do the same when the time comes!

  8. Richpa it is utterly surprising to see you use the word "biased", twice. What on earth could make us biaised about Croatia ?

Of course I know Croatia has a vivid scene, but here I was only talking about music & Suntrip! I didnt mention Spain either while Connection is the festival with the biggest goa line up... I dont believe in borders anyway, thats why I prefer to talk about "Balkan", which is a large region :) So dont ever take this personal

    Well said.
Goatrance is still striving to get coverage. Such an interview was unthinkable only 4 years ago and we should be thrilled by the sole fact it was done.
On the other hand I sense a rising concern that a certain range of artists all produce similar music (yesterday someone called it "the new full on" in front of me).
Just like you, Richpa, we are doing this out of love for the music. Our money goes to the artists. We both know how hard it was to rise this movement from its grave.
So instead of jumping hastily to conclusions, we should fight for only one cause: to release quality music and promoting quality parties more than ever. Without borders. Without boundaries. Together.
If there is the slightest remnant of bitterness here, we're ready to talk with you about it.

pretty sure he got some good french stuff/ doco's but not sure if they ever got translated

    No they haven't.

Edit: actually the mythic "Psychedelique Transe" documentary from 1996 is both in French and in English in my archives.

Here's what I have in store in my archives. Don't expect a downloadable Dropbox link, we're talking about 140 GB here.

I can give some LITTLE help on stuff that might be hard to find.

  10. Filteria's Sky Input wasn't the best production at all back in 2004, but each track had its own identitdy, and once you'd finished listening to the album, you remembered each track individually. The album is harsh to the ears and yet it was so damn energetic and inventive that it still remains in everyone's hearts.

Twelve years have passed and I read on the Goa scene, the same discussions I read a long time ago about Full On: who had the cleanest sound, the best production, etc. Nice. And yet, many Goa releases have similar sounding due to a common virtual synths / fx / post processing filters setup and their use out of the box without changing them a bit.

Morphic Resonance sound is already pretty good and still perfectible. But it's not out of the box. It's analog with plenty layers. Each recording sounds different. We could have left him 6 months to improve the mixing, but he's alone in his project, and advice on the analog field is scarce. I'm not sure there would have seen a significant improvement. And at the same time, the guy is fully ready, motivated, and has momentum. Delaying woud have been a mistake.

IMO Morphic Resonance is going to do what Filteria did. A memorable album with distinct tracks. He will gain opportunities and a substantial feedback out of it and this feedback will help him raise the bar. For the next releases to come.

Now I'd like everyone to wait for the actual release before giving out opinions about its sound quality, and PLEASE do not compare it (beforehand) to Chromatic World, which is 2 years old, and is not mastered the same way.
