  1. (anyone even bothered to read Marx around here?) yet surprisingly everywhere in the World were such "new ways" were implemented by the people were total faliures... so, call me a yuppie working long hours to be a slave of the "system", as long as someone doesn't show me an alternative system that WORKS in real life (not just idealists gathering around a joint speaking of how things should be) then I'll keep to my way of life thank you :)

Sometimes I wonder if you and I have seen the same movie. For starters, Peter Joseph's film GIVES an alternative to our current system in the form of a resource-based economy by looking at the natural needs of people, not money or profit.

And please stop talking about Marx, Socialism and Communism. It didn't work, but luckily, here in Europe, we've adapted the system to a more socially "enlightened system" by our social and medical security. So it wasn't all that bad in the end now was it? You fail to see that all the systems that were put in place the last 150 years or so all were systems based on the limited knowledge of that time. The people back then didn't know our resources were finite. To me, all these systems are transitional. The Capitalistic system had it's time, it had a good prospect more then a 100 hundred years ago with the Industrial Revolution. But now, It's primitive, corrupted and dated.

those are CYCLES dude, it is the essence of the Universe: a period of creation is followed by a period of destruction. Think of the Roman Empire: it grew and decayed centuries before capitalism existed. Think even further: the age of dinosaurs, or further still, the creation of the Earth and the Universe. Financial markets is just one (tiny) aspect of life in which the universal principle takes place. I'm amazed to see how many people take interest in oriental philosophy but at the same time fail to see a connection between that and our modern everyday life... anyway, good day to you too :)

Economics is NOT a science, it has NOTHING to do with the natural order of things. It's a game that is manipulated by the most important players. The natural order of things is that it needs to fall, just like the Roman Empire did. They got greedy and lusted in the submission of other people too. To hell with it!

I've read some of the posts in the other thread you posted Lemmi. I've read somewhere you thought this film was thought-provoking. What happened in the meantime? Are you protecting the status quo we are in now just for the sake of argument?

I haven't read anything that really debunks the moral issue in Zeitgeist, nor the facts. The only thing I know now that some of you learned how to use google, congratulations on that! "But this source says this, bla bla bla" "It's all utter BS, etc..."

Take a good look around people. All the things you have in your houses and the things you possess, has gone through the hands of some labourer working for a wage just enough to provide for their families wether fabricating or in distribution, or more likely nowadays somewhere cheaply in some foreign country. They are the backbone of the Capitalistic system and if they start to rise up...well you know... I know at firsthand because I've worked in distribution-warehouses for several years and I still do as a matter of fact, sadly, I still need money. Believe me, these are the folks the people in power wanna keep dumb, deaf and blind. And TBH, who really needs all that sh*t they are trying to sell you anyway?!?

    Goodnight and Good Luck!

  2. Thanx for posting this Ironsun. I had heard of the Zeitgeist films but never came around to actually watch them. I've seen the one you posted last weekend. The first half told me nothing I didn't know already, and I mean the basic thought that economics is a game, not a science, and that it only serves the wealthy and is being manipulated by bankers and corporations. I simply don't trust this corrupt system which gives you a false notion of freedom, period. It is corrupt as f*ck and should be dealt with as soon as possible. This Capitalistic system is just simply a transition to something better just like communism, fascism, dictatorships, etc was. Why? Because the Earth we are all living in and depending on is being treated like a whore we can use and abuse whenever we feel like it. All in the name of profit.

The second part about how to reorganise the planet's system in a resource-based economy was interesting and something that actually made sense, unlike all the aformentioned systems. It's a good idea to start with. Now the only thing we need is for the brainwashed to wake the f*ck up before it's too late. But I'm afraid it has to crash first, well infact, it did 2 years ago. The big banks in countless countries begged for money and all the governments paid, meaning, WE PAID to save THEIR ASSES. Beyond comprehension!

Big Finance Is a Monster That's Consuming Our Economic Security

  3. Sorry if this offends anyone, but...

I've tried to discern what it is that people like about the music of Prince and I just can't. Would anyone care to explain it to me?

@ rotwang: I don't think I can explain it. But I learnt to appreciate Prince over the years. I have a friend who has all his albums, and I remember I used to make jokes about him being his fan. Now, you know, I do regret I didn't have the ears to listen to his songs more carefully back then (one example: I love Chaka Khan's "I Feel for You" from 1986, and just last year I discovered it's a Prince's song). I see Prince as a fine writer and musician. His songs are full of twisted humor, funny sadness, laughing love affairs (like "If I was your girlfriend"). Of course he had his lows, like the Batman album, but even that is good. I think this change of mind of mine came when I started listening to black music. My Iphone now has a huge collection of funk, soul, jazz. I think I learnt to hear Prince after that.

I also had two friends who were obsessed by him. He is a genius. He was influenced by soul and funk legends like Sly Stone, Marvin Gaye, George Clinton, Stevie Wonder and of course James Brown. These were all very talented musicians producing and writing their own music. He used these influences and created a distinctive and original sound. If you like soul and funk there's now way you could get around Prince. The music he makes now hasn't been that compelling but he's Prince man, he doesn't have to prove anything anymore. But he still can give some steamin' hot liveshows and aftershows for his dedicated fans.

Wether you like him or not, that's just taste I guess. But you can't ignore his talent.

  4. Criticizing is really only a useful start if people also change their personal attitudes and habits. I can complain til I'm blue in the face about megacorporations, but if I then go buy a Coke and watch a Disney movie have I done any good?

It's a start, a process to, maybe eventually, a better thought out system for the people and environment.

There's a serious shortage of people who truly care enough to change their lifestyle to not support what they don't think deserves support.

Agreed. And when more people start changing their lifestyle and live more conscious it'll bring down the system we are now so dependable on. Or it'll just collapse by itself which it did nearly two years ago.

I think it's fashionable now to not question the corporations and the system too much by the looks of it. I don't now about you people but I wanna see it go right down, the sooner the better, preferably before the next trend is on sale at the f*cking dollar store.

  5. Today many people are critizizing the power of multinational corporations. It is almost fashionable, but it misses the real problem of a society based solely on short-term gain.

I would be very happy if more people start critisizing and thinking about the power these multinationals have. If you'd call it "fashionable" then so be it. It's a start, a process to, maybe eventually, a better thought out system for the people and environment.

These corporations only goal is to make profits in the shortest term possible. They hypnotise people subliminally with adverts trying to make people actually believe they need all their stuff they are selling. They have no long-term vision whatsoever, they need to survive whatever the costs may be, like for instance redundancies. Money comes first. They endorse short-term gain, it's their reason to be. The sooner people realise this fully, the better. So, I disagree this way of thinking misses the real problem. It's taking out the root of the problem cause short-term gain only truly benefits corporations, especially multinationals and the big banks. Not us.

Hey look, it's the 3 Portlanders all in one thread! And then that Belgian guy.

    Yes, and...

  6. That's what we've been trying .. It's easy for you to say so though , since your weren't here back in the past ...

True. But I can remember some of the good times I've had. Great memories but not sth I like to dwell upon. The time is now! C'est passé, mon ami.

  7. I like Psynews the way it is. I sometimes post in Isratrance - if you want a crowded place, with a lot of minuses, killlaaargh! comments, controversial reviews, that's the place for you - but it's completely clueless. I also post in another forum in my language, Portuguese, it's also somehow "slow". It's OK to be slow, you can appreciate things more carefully, have a richer conversation, learn more. Haven't you heard about the "slow down movement" yet? Make a search, it's good.

    +1

It is what it is and definitly not what it was. Get over it!

  8. It is long past time when humans begin to think collectively and in multidimensional time. We as a species have outgrown our ability to just take care of our immediate family at the present moment. If the human race is to continue to flourish, it must adapt to the role of pilot. It must always be looking past the immediate future at what may come years ahead.

Cultures, political organizations, and social networks all must change to support this new role. It is not impossible. It only takes an idea to grow and spread.

It already happened in Tunesia and Egypt where FB played an important role in the downfall of the dictators. Of course, the new people in charge are gonna adapt. The Military of Egypt, who is in power now, already made an official FB account. So like you said, social networks need to adapt/change, and they will. Hopefully people will continue to organise themselves further in the future so the people and not the politicians will have the power. The spark has been ignited, now it'll need some time to grow into an unstoppable fire.

  9. Ahaaa Sepultura off course Posted Image

They went to Belgium > month ago, I missed it Posted Image

Me love Life of Agony. Their last album Broken Valley with all the original bandmembers rocked.

Never got really into death/doom metal. I preferred "crossover"/trash/groove metal and some prog stuff. Pantera is by far my favourite metalband. Nice to see we've got some real metalheadz here. B)

  10. And I thought that this is "What kind of sports are you into" :(

    Thanks for nothing!

If spamming was an olympic sport well then you'd probably had won some gold medals. It's a shame they didn't have computers back in the day in Greece. Instead they chose to build the Acropolis and run around the track naked...pffft
