    Release information:

Following their recent double-CD album "I Love You, Who Are You?" on Iboga Records, the Swedish duo TICON are already ready with a new massive release.

This time they have teamed up with the Israeli duo WEEKEND HEROES, who have put a really solid mark on the progressive scene in the last year with big releases on labels like Toolroom, Plastik Park, Unreleased Digital, Tribal Vision, Baroque and Armada. Most attention has probably been given to their remix of Ticon's "Models On Cocaine" on Iboga Records, so it was only natural that they would team up in the studio.

The release contains the track "Teleport". No remixes, no bullshit - just a big, lethal progressive tune for the peak-time moments!

  4. hmmm When I played live at Antaris Project in 2009 I heard a lot of really bad mixing going on from the popular "star" Dj's. Yes some did very well (mostly those playing psytechno) but the rest was IMO awful trainwreck mixes or bad flow in the mixes. I was really surprised that such bad mixing was still been looked at as OK in 2009.

I agree that top House and Techno names also screw up but that does not make it an excuse for Psytrance Djs to follow that trend :)

Yeah, I'm not saying that trainwrecks doesn't (still) happen, but it's not really an exclusive thing for the psytrance-scene.

  5. "The introduction of techno; In 1999 a group of unknown artists played exclusively Detroit Techno and Chicago House at the venue known as 'Laughing Buddha' (formally known as Klinsons) in Baga, Goa. These artist were the first people to play Techno in Goa on a regular basis. The introduction of mixing on turntables using vinyl was a first for Goa at that time. Until that point 'DJs' mainly used 'MiniDiscs', 'D.A.T' and CDs, without 'beat matching' the mixes." http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Goa_trance

According to this paragraph from wikipedia, I was accurate in my assessment. It also shows that the trainwrecking was so overwhelming, it took seven years for real DJ's to even play in Goa.

As a fellow "vinyl beat-matching" DJ, I had already finished spinning psytrance in 1998. These guys must have been as disgusted as I. So much, that they went to Goa to mix vinyl.

I really love how the author uses the words, "DJ and without beat-matching," in the same sentence. THAT IS NOT A DJ. THE FIRST THING A DJ LEARNS IS TO BEAT-MATCH. SO, THESE HIPPIES WERE LIKE DRAG QUEENS, EXCEPT, MANY THOUGHT THEY WERE ACTUALLY WOMAN.

In the immortal words of Eric Cartman. "God Dammit! I HATE HIPPIES!!!"

I no doubt agree with you that there's no excuse for not beatmixing (especially today), but saying that lack of proper beatmixing is what killed psytrance is an overstatement. The psytrance-scene has definitely always had a bad reputation when it comes to DJ-skills, but nowadays I don't think it's true. There's a lot of really good technical DJ's out there in the psytrance-scene.

On the other hand I even to this day still hear sets with world-famous house and techno-DJ's with lots of trainwrecks. It's not only in the psytrance scene that some people can't distinguish a good mix from a mediocre one.

  6. Ticon, Son Kite, Digital Structures you know stuff like that.

I remember that in 2000-2001 listening to a melody was actually a rare thing.

Then Full On came and became the new trend.

It's only natural with these kinds of cycles in music - not just for the psytrance scene. The more minimal and techno-influenced music from the likes of Son Kite (and earlier on: X-Dream, The Delta etc) was a counter-reaction for the increasingly more euphoric and melodic goa/psytrance. Then there was the full-on explosion around 2001-2002 which again was a reaction to the minimal/progressive sound - and later on we've had many more counter-reactions which has lead to the scene being more diverse than ever.

Son Kite, Ticon and Digital Structures certainly didn't kill the scene - on the contrary!

    Release information:

The Danish project FLOWJOB is one of the most in-demand acts when it comes to rocking afternoon festival sets. With the trademark mixture of joy-filled progressive trance and housier grooves it's a kind of music that is begging to be played when the sun is high on the sky, the drinks are cold and the soundsystem is powerful.

The new single "Party Trap" is no exception, and we have high expectations for this track in the upcoming European summer-season - just as the two albums "Zentertainment" and "Support Normality" became worldwide summer-hits.

Also included on the new EP is a remix by the promising danish project PHAXE of the track "We Are Here" from the album "Zentertainment". After a series of succesful tracks and remixes on labels like Iono, Blue Tunes and Spintwist he shouldn't be unknown to most of you out there, but in case you've been out of the loop: watch out for this guy in the future!

  8. I'm not doubting that some artists jump the bandwagon to keep a steady income/stream of gigs coming (I've met a few myself), but at the end of the day most artists are just music-lovers like the rest of us.

Maybe it's not always about the money when an artist decides to make music in a new trend. Maybe it's just because the artist finds some new inspiration - finds out that a different kind of music is actually really good.

If an artist only makes music in a particular style only to appeal to old fans or to appeal to a larger audience (whether it being sticking to the same old formula or frantically trying to jump the bandwagon) it will shine through. But if the passion for music is genuine it will also mostly shine through in the music - no matter what kind of music it is. So respect for those that follow their own taste.

The Israeli duo LISH has just released their 3rd album "Miles Away", which can be purchased on CD here:

    http://www.psyshop.c.../ibo1cd071.html

(Next week it will also be available as digital download on Beatport.com)

Here's an interview with the two positive lads made prior to the album.

Hi there guys. Just to get things started, could you start out with a short introduction about who's behind the LISH project?

The two guys behind the Lish project are Lior Maimon & Shay Tiab from Israel.

How did you get into the whole electronic music thing and production?

We studied in the same high school and connected through our love to electronic music.

In 1995 we started to create our own music. Around 1998 the name Lish came up, and we started to send promos to different labels. In 2000 we signed to U.S.T.A (a.k.a Krembo Records), and in February 2002 we released our debut album named "Dejavoodoo".

You started out making harder, psychedelic trance music, but in later years your sound has certainly become slower and more rounded. How do you define your music? And what is its purpose?

It's very hard to define our style of music, because we always change our influences and it directly affects our music.

These days we define our music as a blend of progressive house, tech house and everything else we like to listen to. We believe that as a band we need to keep on changing and developing our style, and not just repeat the same formula over and over again.

We have always been attracted to sophisticated music and progressive style. Therefore, you can find different styles and tempos in each track or album, even if it still sounds as typical Lish sound.

Can you put a finger on when, how and why your sound changed from the harder stuff to what you're associated with now?

In the beginning our music combined techno with psychedelic trance. The first album is the most psychedelic one. A few years later, before our second album "Free Fall" released, we polished our sound production and used more melodies. It was pure progressive trance, which we can find today at parties as the main act. These days our influence has changed again, and our next album will be deeper, groovier and slower, but we still keep the trance music motives in it.

The electronic music scene changes all the time and it affects us as well. The differences between the genres have become so small that it's hard to tell what kind of genre you listen to in each track. It has taken us some time to getting used the changes and you can say that our album is a conclusion of this quest.

You've been on the electronic music scene for a long time now. Have you reached a point where you're able to make a living from your music?

Yes. This is what we have been doing for a living for the last decade, but like all other things in life we have ups and downs. We keep on working hard and keep trying to invent ourselves over and over again with new music for our fans and listeners.

Looking back, which of your tracks are you most proud of?

We are proud of every track we have released. Sometimes we really appreciate it also weeks, months or even years after w'vee created it. Some of these tracks are: "Consciousness", "The Light" with Ace Ventura, "Fresh", "Dirty Feelings", "Sea side hills", "Slow Me Away" "Running Away" etc.

Are there any of your older tracks that you aren't proud of, or even some that make you cringe when you hear them now?

Sometimes when we listen to an older track, we aren't proud of the sound production. You can always improve on the production, but in the end it's the people who decide if it's good or not. Since we're still here, we think it proves that we did a good job after all.

I guess some people still request that you play some of your older, harder stuff. How do you feel about that?

It puts a smile on our face to hear that people really love our first tracks, or that they have special memories with our music. It means a lot to us and just pushes us to make more good music and maybe make remixes to our older tracks.

Are you satisfied with your achievements so far? Or are there still some burning ambitions?

We are more than satisfied with our achievements so far. Our ambitions are to play in bigger parties, create better sounds to our music, and of course to get as much publicity as we can all over the world.

Let's put focus on your new album; 5 years ago you released your second album, "Free Fall" and now you have just released the 3rd one. Can you tell something about what we can expect from the 3rd album?

The new album has some surprising sounds. As we said before, it's a bit slower, but if you listen to our first album, you'll see that we have already made tracks running at 124 BPM.

The album definitely has more house and tech house influences. It's deep and maintains our unique sound, yet several tracks still have trance elements.

This is also the first album you are set to release on Iboga Records, even though you've had a few tracks featured on the label over the years. Why did you choose Iboga Records for the new album?

We have worked with local record labels so far, and this time we decided to work with a well-known successful company, Iboga records, that really reflects the new style of the album.

As far as other artists go, who and what is inspiring to you right now?

We like progressive house music, techno tunes and tech house. Both of us also love listening to rock, metal, hip hop, dubstep bands and artists.

Where do you see the sound in "the scene" heading?

The scene is developing all the time and getting inspiration from different styles. Genres like House, Tech house and Electro entered the scene intertwined with new technology, and these things helps the artists

to create and shape new kinds of fresh tunes, with their ears open even for dance, pop and rock. So we will find the scene still kicking but just in different way.

The new album can be purchased on CD here:

    Release information:

We at Iboga Records are very proud to present the 3rd and long waited full-length album from Lish. Undoubtedly among the best ambassadors for the progressive scene in Israel for almost a decade, and stronger than ever.

The duo consists of Lior Maimon and Shay Tiab, and over the years they have been consistently been on top of the game, from the dark tech and psychedelic trance inspired sounds on their first album 'Dejavodoo' in 2002, to the mellower, melodic progressive trance sound on 'Free Fall' and their more progressive house and tech house inspired sound in recent years.

The 3rd album 'Miles Away' has been in the works for a while, and it oozes with quality. The grooves are uplifting and aimed for the dance floor, and the duo have carefully selected some of the best elements of the techno and minimal wave, while still maintaining elements of their past in trance. The best example of this would be their new remix of the classic collaboration with Ace Ventura, 'The Light'.

All in all 'Miles Away' is a prime example of why their sets are in such high demand across the globe; from underground outdoor parties in their homeland of Israel, club parties in Europe, festivals in Japan or the mega outdoor events in Brazil.

    Release information:

After a 3 year wait the Swedish duo TICON is finally ready with their new, 5th full-length album "I Love You, Who Are You?", and we at Iboga Records are very proud to welcome them onboard.

The legendary tale about Ticon started as the project Tripticon back in the 90’s. Tripticon somewhere along the way became Ticon, and around the millennium the duo got attention from psychedelic trance heavyweight labels like TIP World and Dragonfly Records as well as the new, Swedish label Digital Structures, which was run by the duo Son Kite (now known as Minilogue). After some very successful singles they signed an album-deal with Digital Structures and in 2001 their now classic debut album "Rewind" was released.

Since then they have released the albums "Aero", "Zero Six After" and "2 am", and all have been trendsetting indicators of where the progressive psychedelic trance scene was heading at the particular time. Much has happened since then though, and influences change - the new album is a great blend of progressive house, techno, tech house and progressive trance, but with the unique Ticon touch. A bit of fun, a hint of funk and heavy dose of dancefloor potential.

Also included in the package is a bonus CD with remixes by big techno, progressive and tech house artists like Spektre, Christian Smith, Weekend Heroes, Paul Thomas and Myke Smith as well as Ticon remixes of Weekend Heroes, FM Radio Gods, Johnson & Haske and Gai Barone.

We know a lot of you have been waiting impatiently, and you won't be disappointed. And to all new fans of Ticon; prepare for one of the biggest albums this season!
