  1. I've corrected my above post somewhat, as I was a bit mistaken regarding the Supersaws, turns out the JP-8000 was released in 1996, I confused it's release date with the JP-8080 rack version which I had, which was released in 1998. And also in 1995 the first Nord Lead was released, which had unison and the possibility to stack parts. A feature I first though was introduced with the Nord Lead 2, but by looking at images of the front panel of the NL1, I'm now sure it also had unison. I would love to see some studio photos from the AP studio from that era, and I wouldn't be surprised if they had the Nord Lead1/Nord Rack 1 and the Roland JP-8000. And in 1997 the first Access Virus model was released, it didn't feature the now famous Hypersaw that the later TI models added, but I'm sure it must've sported a unison just like the Nord Lead for some fat supersaw like detuned leads. So since these type sounds which are rather specific for the virtual analog era of synthesizers was available in 1997, it opens up a lot of possibilities for what was used to make the leads on that album, and thus the options for recreating the AP leads. To the thread starter, do you have Sylenth1?
  2. The music production section would benefit from having some of the pinned threads removed, some are from 2005 and are hopelessly dated/irrelevant. Probably dead links galore. It would make that forum section feel more inviting and fresh, since the amount of pinned threads makes for some unnecessary scrolling while visiting that section.
  3. Compared to the original 303, I can also confirm that this is the closest you can get in software today (of the plugins I've tried so far). AudioRealism sounds OK, but not particularly faithful to the original. The Phoscyon has an extended feature set as well, which makes it way more versatile. It basically comes with some of those features previously found on the physical 303 mods. The onboard distortion is god-tier as well, replicates very well the sound of a TB-303 overgained via either a boss bx series mixer, boss pedal, or perhaps a mackie 8-bus desk.
  4. I think the key to getting close to their sounds is to limit yourself, so I would recommend using the same type of stacking/modulation options they had available at the time. Which means to analyze for example how a lead like this would be made on a Juno-106 or SH-101 with their rather limited options (by todays standards). I believe that the Roland MKS-80 Super Jupiter with its MKS-80 programmer, was an integral part of their sound as well. Which was a bit more advanced than the Juno 106/60 & SH-101. You are certainly on the right track with the PWM/LFO-modulation of the leads. That was a signature element of them for sure. For those crying type of leads, the portamento of said synthesizers played a crucial role as well. Try putting the portamento at around 13/14. Depending a bit on the scaling/range of the synthesizer you use, that might vary quite considerably, so listen until it sounds perfect. I know for a fact that Astral Projection used a specific phaser effect as well on their leads. Which you can hear clearly on the track "Feelings" from their Trust In Trance album. One thing I'm unsure of is if they used the "secret" unison mode and the rather noisy onboard chorus on the Juno-106 or if they opted for some external effect, like a chorus or multi-effect on the Eventide or Lexicon for example. https://www.synthtopia.com/content/2008/02/28/roland-juno-106-synth-unison-mode/
  5. Interesting topic! challenge accepted, I'll give it a go on Synapse Audio Dune 3.
  6. We want goa? this is psynews ya dig it's just dat DAT (no pund intended) happens to be one of the best labels around for that purpose. For me any of these old dat tapes brought back to life with stellar mastering is worth a thousand times more than any new goa released. It's the closest we can get to the golden era really. So of course we make a fuzz here It would be far worse if no one cared here, this just shows that this label's output is hugely appreciated. Are there any releases planned for the summer for exampe? That's the type of stuff this thread is about. Thankfully I still have some backlog to discover from DAT, so I'm not complaining.
  7. I guess the good thing is the prices will go up on the Etnica/Pleidians/Crop Circles released on DAT. Unless we get some unexpected news soon. *Fingers crossed* Some news regarding other upcoming releases on this label would be nice I'm sure there's plenty of unreleased DAT killerz waiting in the pipeline.
  8. I have a request for a feature on the forums, namely this: https://community.soundcloud.com/share-embed-230064/how-do-i-embed-a-sound-cloud-player-into-a-forum-i-m-using-6395729 Would be neat to have the added functionality to add embedded small soundclound links, in signature as well as in posts. As the forum works now by default, if I add an embedded soundcloud link, it makes a huge preview, which is not ideal for the signature. Since it occupies a lot of real estate on the screen for users hence annoying. I is however useful in the promo section with the large embedded link.
  9. I have no clue at all about this genre, but MFG posted a teaser on their FB of a new track from their upcoming album. I'm not sure however if the album/track is goa/full on/psytrance, or some hybrid. I don't even know how full on sounds nowadays. I'm sure it has changed somewhat stylewise? From around 2008ish that is. Anyways the MFG teaser sounds great to my ears, whatever the genre My two cents.
  10. Thanks for reminding me of D5, was a while since I listened to them Very good music for sure, their remastered albums blends very good with neo goa in playlists/DJ-sets due to the pristine sound.
  11. I might be remembering incorrectly, but I have vague memories about the original Consequences track by Artifact303, perhaps he released that one here on psynews in the promo section back in the day? I could be confusing it with The Ancestors track, it was such a long time ago that my memory is a bit foggy. Cool if so, since it has a special psynews connection if that's the case.
  12. Curious about Astrancer's track Ain Soph, the teaser on facebook was indeed very promising. Any chance that you'll release Archons by him as well?
  13. Very nice review, got me more curious about this album for sure. The album artwork is lovely, it's very original. And hits home with any coffee and synthesizer/drum machine aficionado. As those go so very well in hand. It's refreshing seeing more mundane sources of inspiration on album artworks. I like the vortex in the coffee cup, must be some stellar coffee hehe.
  14. I love it, there is something very relaxing with music you can count the layers in sometimes, and really be able to perceive everything clearly. I'm quite sure there is a bandwidth limit to how many layers we can register simultanously. That beeing said, the over-maxed layer approach has it moments too sometimes when you really want to get lost in the layers. Fav tracks for me are: 1, 2 & 3.
  15. Testing the speed of our newly finetuned forum.
  16. Interesting, I had missed out completely on this compilation series. Time to catch up, the Ra track made me curious.
  17. thanks for the update btw the "what are you listening to right now" thread has been very slooow when one post in it, which is surely due to all the links in the thread which the forum indexes? Perhaps a new thread should be started and the old one closed, as is common on other forums when threads reach too many pages?
  18. The font in Prana looks as groovy as ever talk about timeless design.
