  1. On a more serious note and on-topic, I think the examples provided by AP here proves a point. Namely, that if those older tracks by Astral Projection and Hallucinogen would sound dated to people new to the genre, then I would I assume that all the people who attend their live shows must be old nostalgic goa veterans? Well it turns out that's anything but true. I've seen it myself at Hallucinogen live a couple of years ago, plenty of younger people attending and people with no real connection to the old school era, more than what they might've heard on youtube/spotify and on the abovementioned type of live shows. And everyone seemed to enjoy the music and danced to it. Usually though I think these acts play as headline on big festivals/parties, so in most cases it's not the artist/group in question that people might attend the festival for, it's just a bonus or a plague perhaps. Depending on what they might think about the old music. And this makes me reflect on something, does Astral Projection and Hallucinogen play remastered versions of their classic works? Or have they stood the test of time relatively well, so they sound OK even by todays standards on the big sound systems of this era? I personally think a lot of the old stuff will not sound very good soundwise if played on the same party as full-on/progg etc, as they have less pronounced bass and a bit more messy mixes with lots of layers and often lacks the clarity that todays technology provides, so that it can sound a bit dated compared to the modern stuff on a big system. For home listening I don't think it's such a big deal. But yeah on a party it depends on the context, if it's a pure old school festival, then it will blend well with the rest. And I also think it requires a bit more from the organizer/sound guys to adjust their sound system so that it sounds as good as possible for the old school sound. Unfortunately the sound sucks at most venues I've been to, so in that regard the modern music will always have the upper hand if new and old styles are played at the same venue. I have a good example kinda fresh in memory, I attended a live gig here in Sweden where X-Dream and Pleiadians played old school sets. And I think modern psy-trance, full-on/progg was played at the same night as well by DJ's or perhaps some other artists. I do think the sound was quite messy when X-Dream played, if that was due to the old nature of the tracks on hand, or due to the sound guys/venue messing up, or a combination of both, or perhaps the artist/group tried to compensate with the EQ live, and didn't have good feedback from someone who could listen how it sounded to the crowd. Whatever the case I don't know, but it was very noticeable and distracting nonetheless. This sound dilemma is something I think most artists today who incorporate their older tracks into their live-sets, solve by making remixes of their old tracks, Infected Mushroom for example. Because they know that their old tracks will stick out like a sore thumb if played alongside their new tracks.
  2. I still think this was your most inspiring work so far:
  3. This outdated?? Intense stuff. Pavel you outdid yourself this time, such a realistic hologram.
  4. Yeah, the interview section would benefit as well from some fresh interviews. Last interview was added a year ago. Besides interviews with new artists/labels/DJ's, I think it would be interesting with new interviews with those artists that were interviewed a long while ago. To see what they are up to now, if they are still active that is. Many of the interviews are from around 2006, obviously the scene has changed a lot since then.
  5. Very impressive visuals/light show/lasers, and I much prefer this dj live setup without the band/guitars, singing etc. Back to basics. The track list on youtube is not complete, anyone knows what the track at 10.26 is? They should release this set as a double CD album. The audio is great on this set, since it seems to be recorded straight from the mixer or laptop. With some mic for a bit of crowd noise as well. Which I think they've let through in the mix more between the tracks and in breaks to give it a nice live feel audio-wise as well for the live recording of the set.
  6. Interesting topic, I miss the feeling I got when hearing this compilation for the first time in 1999: https://www.discogs.com/Various-IsrAliens-Futuristic-Psy-Trance-For-The-Year-2000/release/214008 It felt new and fresh, pretty much everything on HOM-mega and Phonokol/Trust In Trance at the time had that sensation, like if every new compilation pushed the sonic boundaries a little further. And it was a gradual development, almost like a morphing from melodic goa trance to darker more futuristic soundscapes. I also miss the Flying Rhino stuff. And yes obviously the entire old school goa era. It was a very experimental age, with lots of different stylistic approaches coexisting on most compilations. And a special sound due to the analog equipment/limitations. The rawness I miss some times, which I'm instantly reminded of if listening to some of the classics. There's just something about the the analog aspect which has a living, breathing soul. Especially the sounds of the SH-101 and TB-303 synthesizers, have that unique sensation. It's like an electric guitar, it's pure electricity. They scream and sound alive when pushed through distortion, amplifiying the rich analogue overtones, providing a very infinite and unpredictable texture to the goa sound. We could draw comparisons to photography, the difference between digital and analogue cameras. Both have their pros and cons, and digital/analogue hybrids is of course a thing as well within photo, as it is in some synthesizer models. But it's a good comparison because of the resolution of digital vs analogue, in both photos and synthesizers/audio products. (Vinyl vs CD etc). The digital and virtual analog synthesizers of the time of course added a lot to the sonic palette as well, but those are for most part sounds that can be recreated somewhat faithfully with plugins. And the plugins are getting better every year. Perhaps I got a bit carried away now and forgot the intial topic questions. But yeah old school goa is a bit difficult to pin down stylewise as there were so many different approches. If we would call Hallucinogen's style a specific subgenre of goa, well then I miss that style. Since not even he himself has managed to create something equally mind-expanding since that era IMO. Although he has made some really good/interesting music nonetheless since then. But yeah he set the bar quite high with the Twisted album. Last album I really liked by him was Younger Brother - The last Days of Gravity.
  7. I think it boils down to familarity in most cases, if they've mostly heard full-on and perhaps went to some event playing that style, then I suppose goa could sound quite different and perhaps antiquated in some aspects. But it's a difficult question really, since there is full-on which on a surface level resembles goa quite a lot. And vice versa of course, new school goa with lots of full on elements. So I guess it depends a lot on what goa albums they happen to get exposed to for the first time. I think like you that a lot of the old goa has enduring qualities, but I can totally understand if people new to the genre don't agree. And also another factor is if the goa is remastered or not.

  9. The thing that makes me sure that this is just trolling/a made up persona, is the fact that none of the linked sites are working, except the soundcloud page. And all the mumbo jumbo in the promo text makes no sense either. Unless the sites url's were online in 2019?
  10. Lmao that is one "Sexy Secret". https://www.discogs.com/PsyNína-Sexy-Secret/master/216627
  11. KILERGH TUNE MAN. For the Peepuz RMX, so did you ever find out Psyninas secret? You two could become the psytrance equivalent power couple to Jay-Z and Beyonce. She would be a powerful ally, so you two could rule the galaxy together.
  12. Yeah I noticed. I totally understand why as they're exceptionally good albums. And the fact that they threw in some limited edition merch goodies didn't hurt either.
  13. Really cool stickers included, and the vinyl colors look amazing too. BTW while checking the link I noticed that two other IM albums are available in Vinyl there: https://www.merchadvice.com/en/product/package-deal-converting-vegetarians-double-lp-reissue-pre-order-white-tote-bag/ (out of print unfortunately) https://www.merchadvice.com/en/product/converting-vegetarians-ii/. (hmm is this one a CD or vinyl?) And I think I saw on their FB a long while ago that Return to the Sauce was available as well on vinyl, perhaps a limited smaller run or something?
  14. So Infected Mushroom did a Corona live set from the studio, which someone recorded. Kinda interesting, certainly if you like me perhaps never go to see them live. I saw them live once only around 2005 or so. I really like the remixes at the end of some of their classical tracks Dracul and Return of The Shadows. The originals are of course best, but it was cool nonetheless to see what they did with the old tracks to bring a modern flavour to them, what I do prefer a lot is the kick drums in the original versions.
  15. Hey great to finally hear something from the source :). Looking forwards to the new releases in the pipeline. Keep up the good work, finally we can put our imaginative conspiracy theories to rest lol. It's like they say, if you have popcorns but no drama, well you need to create it.
  16. Good job! And very nice mastering by Kristian indeed
  17. From NJHO's upcoming live set: Crop Circles - Gamma Goblins NHJO Epic Sax Remix (Unrlsd)
  18. Exactly, all it takes is some few well selected words from Draeke, to end all speculation/pitchforking. I mean if you have the time to delete the bandcamp and to even log in here, what's the big deal? Just say hi atleast. Anyways the label was great and very consistent over they years. To be able to maintain a quality output like that for such a long time within a relatively niche segment of the market, that is a far cry from the revenues of other genres, is quite a feat. So my hats of and I wish Draeke all the best for the future. Hopefully there will be more goa. I remember very fondly when DAT Records was launched/announced here on psynews in 2008 or so, with a smashing first release Crop Circles ‎– Tetrahedron. If this is the end of the label, then it has been 12 good years. Stellar releases across the board, I don't use vinyls so I can't really comment on the quality of those, and yeah vinyls seems to be a kinda difficult format.
  19. Draeke has been logged in on psynews but has chosen not to answer or come with an official statement yet. The silent approach might not be very helpful I think, closing down the bandcamp might be a way to close a channel where people asked a lot of questions? I think all the supporters on bandcamp and here on psynews deserve better. If anything this teaches us the fragile nature of purchasing digital goods, I've experienced similar things when purchasing movies on different platforms that were removed. We basically rent the movies/music for an unspecified time, unless there is a way to download it. Which fortunately is an option in the case on bandcamp. But yeah sucks for those affected who didn't get a notice prior to the removal of the catalogue, so they could've downloaded it all in time.
  20. Dude! Refx Vanguard plugin? That's so epic, for dat old schoool 2004 sound. You're either behind the curve or way ahead on some new retro plugin trend lol Either way, I tried calling your phone number that you have provided here in the thread start, but yeah it was a busy line, I guess all em labels are busy headhunting talent these days. And btw what's up with all the domain names? One site would be enough eh?
