  1. The Roland JP-8000 Euros. It's like a grand per sawtooth-waveform in the supersaw oscillator
  2. I think you added a zero too much to the price of the JP-8000 besides that, great list! Definitely the less is more approach. And some careful considerations of each. I would actually enjoy more to have a set budget limit, so the choices became more worthwile and carefully considered. To strike the perfect balance and weigh pros and cons of each purchase. To achieve somekind of zen in the studio, where each piece has a deliberate place.
  3. I would keep it really simple, I need a clear work space and less distractions. My focus would be where it really matters(psynews ). And I would not get lost in collectors fantasies, as that can be a very time consuming hobby, albeit a very fun one. I would get the best possible studio monitors but not too big, as they shouldn't be played too loud and disturb neighbours. Most likely something from Genelec, since I've got good experience with them and I love their build quality. I would probably get 5 Genelecs so that I could use them for watching movies as well. Or perhaps more and setup an Atmos Surround system. Then the best possible soundcard, I've had RME Fireface 800 and Fireface UC, I had lots of issues with the Fireface UC, so I will never invest in RME again. So I'm more curious about testing a brand that I've only heard great things about, Universal Audio and specifically their flagships, the x8 and x16 Audio Interfaces. And yeah depending on the speaker configuration, the audio interface should preferably be able to handle that many speakers as well, or I would perhaps even need to invest in two separate systems, one for movies and one for the studio. For the best headphones option available what would that be? Heck whatever it is, give me two pairs, one for the phone and one for the studio. And why not customized as well lol add some cringy Michael Jackson Peter Pan motif and gold and diamond studded. Next up I would invest in the best possible keyboard, and instead of a MIDI-only keyboard I would get something with an actual synth engine in it as well. Either the Waldorf Quantum or a Virus TI2 61 keys again, I have owned that and the Polar TI2 at various points in my life. And they are veritable swiss army knives for music production or just playing on as standalone instruments. Perhaps a Roland System-8 since I haven't had one of those yet. The build quality just seems so plastic compared to the Virus. Then I would get a new macbook, as my current one is getting old. Perhaps a really large and good computer screeen for it. Or two as some seem to like, could be convenient for mixing sesssions, to have the mixer on one display and the arrange window on the other. And while we are at it, a third screen for psynews. Some proper room treatment/acoustics and a really luxurious and comfortable office chair. And of course proper investment in great sample libraries and plugins, and that would be about it. I don't need vintage gear anymore, but if I had to chose It would be basic simple stuff, SH-101, TB-303, no drum machines, as they don't work with my current workflow. Much prefer software samplers for that. But they can of course be great fun to jam with synchronized to their synthesizer siblings. I might've purchased a Roland JP-8080, mostly for nostalgic reasons. I almost forgot! I would actually get an Eventide Effects Processor, the EvenĀtide H9000. Which I would run some software synthesizers and the SH-101 through. Hmm and maybe I would get a Roland V-Synth XT again, as I really had some great fun with that one. Very good for voice sample manipulation. And a neat bonus with the included Roland D-50 expansion card built in, which I liked playing on but I would never use the D-50 in a track. It just has a way too recognizeable sound, and adds an instant 80's pop or ambient feel to anything. The pads and bells are lush though. To top all of this off I would then go on to hire Paris Hilton as my personal DJ-tutor, so I could become the best ever live performer. Taking all these dream options into account, I would still be more than happy with just a decent MIDI-keyboard, a couple of good monitors/sound card, and a good computer. As nowadays all the magic can be achieved within the computer. A standalone keyboard can be very inspiring though, to just test out ideas on without the computer, and just play away. Roland Cloud seems like a good service, if one opts for the computer only approach. Lot's of goodies/recreations of their classics as well as newer stuff like the System-8 plugin version. And of course similar offerings from other companies such as Arturia or Native Instruments as well. Even more important than all of this would be some really good coffee/barista machine. For the inspiration.
  4. Interesting thread I'll compile a list of the current ones I've seen which qualify.
  5. @RTP could you move this to the proper forum section? :) btw that's a lot of tags.
  6. I dig your enthusiasm. At the same time I can't help but wonder how your recommended videos on youtube looks like. What I really would like to know though, can psychedelics save the human race and our planet, or are we doomed? *oh and btw, my youtube recommended videos is kinda funny it's like 50% horror movies and 50% music production related stuff. Which is nice I guess.
  7. Watching the French Netflix horror series Marianne. Love it so far https://www.rottentomatoes.com/tv/marianne/s01#contentReviews Creepy witches
  8. What did you think of this cover art? I really liked it: And these as well:
  9. We think the same on this I see. I need to check Life out, and yes hear our call! Anyone who knows something suspenseful and freightening, that takes place in a space setting let us know. Yeah I very much looked forwards to Alien Covenant, and even purchased it blindly, putting way too much faith in Ridley Scott. It was a total disaster of a movie, and it made me appreciate Prometheus even more, which was more subtle and introspective.
  10. Well the thing with IM has always been, that they usually have atleast one interesting track per album, sometimes more as on their more experimental Converting Vegetarians albums, and although I also kinda gave up on them long ago, they ocassionally come up with something surprising, as the Coverting Vegetarians II album a couple of years ago. This latest album however didn't have any tracks for me. I guess their target audience is not the psynews one anymore. Or perhaps it is? Because I don't think the EDM crowd/TikTok-generation that might attend their concerts now buys vinyl? That's clearly something they printed with Psyhoe in mind. Also I think a lot of people, me included are curious just to see what weird step their music might take next, since they've been active for so many years now. It always used to be a thing to hear what Erez had cooked up since he always was a real studio wiz. Unfortunately their musical direction has departed quite far away from what I think most people around here atleast liked about their music. And that's fine too, I guess them becoming more of a rock band at one point was perhaps just them going back to how they began with music in the first place. They always seemed more inspired by Jordan Rudess/Dream Theater/Progressive Rock anyways even in the beginning. However I've heard some pretty OK remixes of their old tracks in their livesets on youtube, so they probably will release something like that at some point, which could be interesting (unless they mess it up completely with vocals/glitch overdose/3 min buildups). I always liked their instrumental more experimental tracks, which they used to have one per album. Dancing With Kadaffi, Elation Station, The Messenger etc.
  11. Yeah really cool stuff, I love how the derelict space ship Event Horizon, even has that eerie look reminiscent of a haunted house. This concept should've been explored more, a TV-series within the Event Horizon universe could've been very nice I think. Overall I don't think there is so much sci-fi space horror available? Only ones I can think of really is this movie and Alien and Aliens(although more action flick than Alien). The Predator/AVP movies fit slightly into the genre, but they more often take place on earth. Prometheus is good too IMO, but it lacks the horror vibe of Alien and Event Horizon.
  12. Yeah Return of The Shadows was a proper take on the darker psytrance by these guys, a direction I think they should've explored more. From my recollection I can only remember one other track which was also in this darker vein, the track Classical Mushroom on IsrAliens 2: Bizarro. Perhaps released on other compilations or EP as well? Mush Mushi might've been a bit darker as well, I can't quite remember I need to take a listen again. I still remember vividly how new and groundbreaking Montoya Remix felt when it was featured on Destination Goa I think. And before that Where Is S also had something unique sounding about it at the time, although not as fully developed as their tracks on The Gathering.
  13. I agree, the 2 minute full on buildups in some tracks didn't help either.
  14. From my understanding/impression, the new generation, the Tik Tok generation that is. Most of them don't listen to radio at all, it's spotify and youtube. So yeah for most people radio is just an annoyance/blessing they're exposed to at the workplace. It's kinda beyond me really why one should listen to some randomly chosen music, when you have all the options at home to listen to exacly what you want. And without commercial ads should you want to (pay for). And when there's plenty of themed playlists on spotify etc with every genre there is. So radio I think is mostly for bus drivers, car drivers, store clerks/hair dressers. And people who grew up with radio and thus has some nostalgic connection to it. From my perspective whenever I tried to listen to a radio app like tuneine for example, whatever channel you picked, you soon realize that it's just a spotify playlist or some other music service/mp3 playlist perhaps, that they've put on repeat for 24/7, so it's the same songs over and over. Gets old pretty quick. The bigger commercial radio channels of course might have some DJ/radio host. But those as well play the same limited selection of tracks over and over again. I guess that could be were most of the charm is for many, the sense that you have some radio host speaking every once in a while, adding some variation to the monotonous time at work. My impression is also that the radio stations that aren't genre/decade locked, might be the best option for variety, if they're big and have different DJ's/radio hosts. Naturally those that focus on a single style or decade will inevitably play the classics of their respective category more often.
  15. Thanks will check out! Like I said, from what I've heard so far. There's always exceptions to be found, and those are what I'm looking for. I think perhaps the dj mixes I've listened to might give a rather limited picture of what's available as well, since they've deliberately chosen tracks that fit together(sound the same). So go ahead, give me more examples. My only requirement is that it's new music, and dark(as defined by the twilight/dark psy genre). And has good storytelling. I'm not interested in stuff that is 10 years old or so, for that I might as well go listen to some old goa again, which I'm quite bored of atm. I might've had a goa overdose for now. I always return to the classics at one point or another, but yeah some 25 years of listening to the same albums/compilations over and over gets tiresome after a while. I've also noticed while revisiting some older psytrance which I always thought sounded awesome, that some of it is really starting to sound dated. So my theory is that some music which have good storytelling/perhaps good melodies/structure might age better, while other music which rely more on the latest sound developments and what not, might age less gracefully.
  16. Watched Event Horizon, hadn't seen it in many years. Not bad, quite an original idea, combining the "haunted house" horror template with a space ship setting. Obviously inspired by Alien and Hellraiser and also a bit by The Shining I think. This movie reminds me of the Dead Space games, although it's obviously the movie that came before those games.
  17. Okey after listening some to what the latest iterations of the darker variety of psytrance has to offer, my conclusion is that so far of the stuff I've listened to, it's great music for the outdoors/forest parties, but perhaps becomes a little boring while listening at home. This is due to there not really beeing any progress/direction in the tracks. Lots of cool morphing sounds thrown around, but compared to for example Hallucinogen, the sounds lack any meaning. A lack of storytelling if you will. So what I'm wondering is if there's anything new like that available? Something dark and trippy but with somekind of emphasis on conveying a sense of story/journey. I would argue that the darker psytrance I've heard so far has that thing in common with techno, namely that you could jump to any location in the track, and you wouldn't be able to distinguish whether it was the beginning, middle, or ending. It's the same sounds/structure used throughout the duration of the tracks. It's not really a critique of said genre, because it does its job in its intended context. It's merely an observation and the fact that I get bored really quickly, and need some strong colorful music which will keep me hooked.
  18. Got really curious about this movie after finishing The Haunting of Hill House, since it's the same director Mike Flanagan. And also because it's a "spiritual" sequel to The Shining. Currently watching Don't Breathe, holy fuck what an intense movie lol. Really good and original so far. It reminds me of the claustrophobic scene in The Silence of The Lambs, when Clarice Starling enters a house with no lights. *Finished Hereditary now, the final act was reaaaally good, a truly deranged movie. The plot twist/weird satanic vibes at the end reminded me a lot of the Roman Polanski movie Rosemary's Baby. Hereditary has a really well-thought-out gradual development into total pandemonium. And started watching The Autopsy of Jane Doe. Seems promising so far. Afterwards it's time for Insidious. *Really enjoyed The Autopsy of Jane Doe, although it ended a bit unsatisfying, they had a super good oportunity to take it a bit further in the final act, but it ended rather abrubtly. Very novel concept and execution, perhaps they ran out of time or had budget constraints. I wanted to know more about the witch background, it was intriguing.
  19. Watching The Haunting of Hill House, what a splendid horror series. I get the chills everytime now at the end of the first season. It was a bit slow-paced in the first half of the season, but now it really picked up the pace. The haunted manor is like a character in itself, and the story, character development and setting is fascinating. It doesn't hurt that it's stunningly beautiful visually as well. The series is really clever, and plays around a lot with the mind. It's the perfect series to watch with the lights off, at night before going to sleep. So that sweet dreams can be had.
  20. I haven't seen it either yet, the IMDB-score alone makes me curious. Not that the scores on there are always indicative of wether one will enjoy a movie or series, but it can often give an indication of the quality atleast. Or perhaps lately also about the PR-budgets of some companies *cough cough disney/marvel*. Because yeah no one can fool me into believing that the avengers movies are up there with The Godfather, The Lord of The Rings movies etc. It's just that disney went full-on brainwash with their insane PR-budgets, flooding the market with paid reviews, and really put a lot of their spending into having an all-encompassing presence on social media.
