  1. Hey-hey. How's it? This is a bit of a large scale topic to tackle but I've been thinking about it every now and then. So the main question is - how's everything changed considering psytrance culture? What do you think? It's obviously a question that's intertwined with our technological/social/human progression. It's difficult to start making an analysis but to get things started... I'm arguing people are in collective terms less focused. This means what we "consume" needs to be easy and fast to digest. Any person needs to make a conscious effort to withhold a long attention span in the age is smart phones and social media. A shorter attention span is not the only thing - if you browse through endless amounts of data (phone/computer...), the creators of this data are in battle to win your attention. Your attention is money, straight and honest. It's views, likes and ad revenue. As you might have noticed, this battle is intense and ugly. It's almost like as if you've suddenly landed in this weird zoo with endless amount of monkeys hitting cymbals together. The loud and obscene run the show. Attention is also a drug like phenomenon, some people crave for it and are willing to take any measure to achieve it. And it certainly has been this way before the invention of internet, but nowadays you can't escape this toxic energy that easily. We're physically less in contact and digitally affected by behavior that we can easily classify sub standard. But isn't it so, that we've actually developed a skill to avoid the negative aspect of internet to some degree? That skill is indifference. People are far more indifferent than before. We just have to ignore a lot of things, because the amount of stimulus has significantly risen in the 10-15 years or so. In global terms the rise of indifference is great for the ones in control. But for the majority, for the planet, for the evolution of mankind... it's toxic. It creates a world of apathy and that's when things get dark when we run out of empathy and hopefulness. Let's see how the aforementioned, in my opinion, affects psytrance culture: 1) Drop of quality / When it's "fast-food" it means you only have to figure out a few things like production standards to achieve the pop-appeal. And sure, there's a place for easily digestible music and it can be fun too. But how about the very opposite? The ruthlessly difficult yet intelligent sound? The reason to do music, the idea behind it, has certainly changed for the worse. The big names are very clinical in their approach and pretty much create the same track over and over again. These days there's more ego & less Soul. 2) Drop of interest / People are less engaged. Less focus means we give each other, not to mention our art, less time and appreciation. We hardly stop to admire a great work even when we hear it. We don't write reviews. Those take time and who cares! Right? That's just the way cookie crumbles these days. 3) No more classics / There's no consensus on what's good and what's not. Just a few single opinions at most. There's no real indicators of quality and popularity these days neither, because views and stardom can be bought. We can all probably agree Hallucinogen's Twisted is a classic yes? But come to talk about anything from the last 10 years I wouldn't know. I couldn't know. 4) Less story-telling albums / ...and more digital singles! Because singles can be released more often therefore staying "active" as an artist/label. Activity is one of the key elements to gaining attention online. A full length album? Yesterday's antics.

  2. My first rave was a Goa Gil Mahayagya in India in 1999 , I think. With no exposure to the music as a teenager and with no idea what to expect I spent the night trying to make sense of what i was hearing , seeing and smelling around me - the 4 by 4 beat , fluorescent backdrops with elves and goblins , braided hippies dancing away , It was an assault on the senses ( in a good way) i was intrigued no end by the setting the music and the people. When the sun came up , i witnessed the magic which then stuck with me forever .I was an initiation like no other. My brother went on to give me his forest of the saints cassette that he had picked up from Goa earlier and the rest as they say is history .. I owe my "getting into" psytrance to the man himself so he will always occupy a special place in my psych. RIP babaji ! hope you continue your party wherever you are .. 🎵🌈🌙

  3. There's dashcam footage of these terrorists looting bodies and rooting through bags: thieves as well as mass murderers, they hide their greed and jealousy behind resentment (for which, no doubt, many of them have good reason). Make no mistake this was a planned attack on music, just like at Bataclan in Paris not so many years ago, just like the Taliban burning guitars and drums and pianos as though a bunch of wood and wires is a threat. The self-styled pious, the self-declared righteous, the extremists, the fanatics, they all hate music because it gives joy to people without ideology. We should feel sorry for them in their silent hell. These extremists driven by hate can murder peaceful dancers, but they cannot stop music. THE DRUMS DON'T STOP!

  8. Hey Folks, An Update here. The album is going ahead. The crowd funder was successful enough to make the project happen. The tracks are finished, and mastered, and artwork was completed, and everything has now gone off to the vinyl pressing facility and it will be around the beginning of June that the albums are shipped to me from the pressing company. It's in motion and will happen. A huge thanks to all who made a contribution, without whom the whole project would not have been possible. Kudos to you all. If anyone wants to pre order the double vinyl from me they can......just make contact with Nervasystem over at the FB page and I can sort you out. Get in touch sooner rather than later though, as they are extremely limited to 100 copies and two thirds of those are already ordered, so after i reserve my few personal copies, and save a few for very close friends and gigs, there's not many left, and they may all go before too long. I won't re-press this release, when they are gone, they are gone. It's going to be a bit special this one: Instant collectors item.....so if you are interested, contact me over at the FB page, or failing that you could try messaging on the Nervasystem Bandcamp. I'm seldom here, so those other ports of call are the best way to reach out if you wanted to secure a copy of the record. Cheers PS.....Here's a picture of the art on the inside of the gatefold cover.

  9. Hello people and all lifeforms on Psynews, I thought imma give you an update on what's going on and arbitrarily share my thoughts about my life and about what is up with me on this forum here: As you might have read somewhat down the line of time, my life recently got a twist - or let me say: a complete turnaround - for the better. Ten years I have basically been sleeping under a rock and all of a sudden it went boom, somewhat - and as I came back to my senses it felt to me like I suddenly was going pretty far on the overtaking side on life's highway, in a fast car and taking turns in the driver's seat with a Soul that makes me really, really happy to be alive. Honestly, I only now realize what I have been missing out and I may ensure you from the deepest of my heart that it has nothing at all to do with any substance ingestion ... that never was my thing anyway. It's just good music and a speed of life that makes me tingle! As good as these news are for me personally, I have to admit it did not have and will not have the best effect on my time here. I will happily stay admin and do stuff when it pops up and when I have time - but I honestly am not much around anymore. If it wasn't for other people who cleaned up here besides me, it would be a true mess! A BIG THANKS to everybody in mod and admin team at this point! The forum has been "kind" to us by decreasing member activity and especially not making my attention so necessary in the past weeks ... but will it stay like that...? This brings me to a question - or rather a decision ... the way I perceive it, we are on a three way crossing and we can pick where we go from here ... the possibilities: 1.: We don't change anything and let all stay the way it is. You will maybe experience delay in requests and reports, in PMs to me, making a few spam posts disappear slower than they should. In fact I will drop by every few weeks, unregularly, clean up some stuff and tidy up a little and together with mods and admins still here we will keep it running as it currently is. 2.: We develop and evolve, get some new members in the admin and moderator panel and rock the place with good content. I'd love that -- but bear in mind that forums are on the declining side of the Internet. They won't get old that soon, but in the medium to long run we would HAVE to evolve into a Metaverse and I'd happily do that with you all, just not as a key driver because my time is a dwindling resource. 3.: Maybe you don't wanna hear it, but the internet has changed, forums are out of date and the activity counter on here shows it. I'm not going to pull out a diagram, but new posts have been steadily declining over the past years and recently some more active members left the community. Makes me wanna think out loud: Psynews could be hibernated and archived, open to browse but not to further post ... a possibility? I am just posing thoughts on my own. Everybody is welcome to voice their opinions. I am NOT saying that we stop this. I am just speaking it out as an admin for the first time and as one option of many - and without having asked anybody else. Bear in mind that this openness is also a form of me saying thanks to everybody for putting up with reduced admin time on here. Let me know your thoughts! If there's a team behind it, I'll happily stay a member, with or without admin rights as you wish, and let you carry the flame on and on cheers RTP

  11. You could have expressed your wish for the track to be released in a more civilized way.. That's all.. Calling somebody, anybody, you don't know in personal, an asshole, because you disagree with his decision, yes for me is serious. I met Juan in Spain at Connection Festival 2018, were discussing about the music, the scene in the past and now etc and asked him about this remix (you see, i share the same wish with you..). He was negative BUT POLITE and KIND.. I am wondering if you were taking part in that discussion, would you call him an asshole..? Anyway, enough said..

  13. Just realized but gotta be honest. Not a big fan of you posting free download links on the site. They look dodgy but also take away from an artist a potential sale which would go a long way to them making more music. You do you, but don't think it should be on Psynews. I'm not saying I don't want you Jotinha here. Just the links on the Russian shop remind me of soundpark

  16. Goa Gil personified the idea of a DJ acting as a shaman, he might even have been the inventor of that concept. He pioneered psychedelic trance parties as a spiritual journey. His Kosmokrator mix is one of the best mixes of the golden era of psychedelic trance.

  18. Friend just posted this. Thought it was well written and aligns with how I feel... We, the ravers. We, the music lovers. We, the psychedelic trance scene. We stand for peace. We stand for love. We do not stand for hate and senseless violence. We stand for peak experiences of joyous hedonism in harmonic juxtaposition of seeking our truth, finding ourselves in epiphanous states from philosophical inquiry and dance floor ponderings. We are proponents of sharing the joys of life with one another and the psychedelic experience, which allows us to transcend the dreariness of the banality of our everyday rat race existence. We celebrate visionary art, provocative inquiry, dissolving the status quo, and transformational experiences in our lives taking us to our next levels of self-actualization. We resoundingly reject hate; we unanimously refuse your vitriol. The global psytrance community is not homogenous or monolithic in nature, but together we collectively embrace and promote LOVE through our MUSIC across this entire planet, from parties off the map made up of 10 people in a cornfield dancing furiously to darkpsy from dusk to dawn and beyond on some Mackie monitors and a blown out sub, up to our massive festivals where tens of thousands of psychedelic trance pilgrims congregate from hundreds of countries from around our planet, to unite together and stand what we have ALWAYS stood for: peace, love, unity, and spending time together dancing to some of the best f*cking music on the planet. We will NOT be afraid. You will NOT take away LOVE from us. We will continue onwards but we will NEVER forget those that were murdered in cold blood during the most beautiful and loving moments of their lives. We have always been the torch bearers for the ultimate experience of peace, love, and music in this world and will continue to do so. With love, and in memory of those we lost.

  19. Thanks for mentioning and getting my attention This is an importnat thread anyway. I'd like to do a "check in" too: My life has turned very much upside down, in a positive way (new relationship), but it was very challenging for me. I've also moved and am in a different flat now, still living out of boxes. I was quite under pressure during the last months. I'm really happy that there was no urgent matter here, for it could very well have been the drop that is too much for me to take... It has now calmed down a little and the cracking and creaking noises in my universe, which apparently was already suffering a little under the velocity of its expansion, have stopped or at least died down ... and I am now using the "calmer seas" to sit down and send out a little signal, that all is well in my life and that I will never forget this site and always will come back, now more than in the months before - it's a pleasure to be an admin and I thank you for it

  22. You are accusing others of bringing politics into it when nobody has done such a thing and you are the one and only person bringing politics into it, in the very same post. You seem more concerned about the possibility of being asked to condemn terrorist actions than you are about the victims of those actions. Seriously, don't you have anything better to do than troll message threads where people are sharing sympathies of victims of heinous crimes? Has it occurred to you that members on this forum know some of these people personally? If you don't have anything nice to say then rather don't speak at all.

  23. Are you being serious right now? You're the only one bringing this up. Nobody has mentioned a single thing about politics. Nobody except you. You can keep your 2 cents. Why are you even commenting here? 260 of our psytrance brothers and sisters have just been savagely and senselessly murdered. Have some common decency.

  24. I don't really listen to goa or psy a lot these days. When I do it will be something old, and in general searching out new music seems draining to me, like most everything else in life. On the electronic side I listen to acid techno and I'm always trying (and failing) to find something dark and evil in the synth world. Google fails me every time. I tried searching "dark synth music" and got the term "darkwave" which is anything but dark. I stopped by Psynews today because I was trying to find something to listen to at work and wondered if there were any non-psy threads. There's a sound in my head that I want to hear but I can't find any music that sounds like it. That's generally a clue to go make it but I can't seem to do shit these days along those lines. I just gave up on new goa after a while. Every once in a while I'd go through the new releases threads here or see what Suntrip had released and it never changed. I guess I did. I started drifting back to metal, occasionally gabber (for a couple songs at a time), acid techno. I want either dark and evil sounding shit, or Enya. 😂

Are you feeling like Amelie, finding buried treasure: "Only the discoverer of Tutankhamen's tomb would know how she felt upon discovering this treasure" (Jean-Pierre Jeunet Amelie) All credit to Suntrip for putting out this compilation of unreleased lesser known Goa tracks; a pleasant antidote to the greatest hits that have cropped up already on many compilations. A worthy exercise! For me the great tracks are Color Box, Mystica, Sun Project, Twisted Travellers, XIS, Underhead, Atomas 303. These tracks are all genuine discoveries and worthy additions to the canon of Goa trance. What a genuine delight and surprise to receive golden age music some 20 years later, with not a single familiar track. This is like finding the love poetry of obscure teens decades later: a unique historical window into the power of the trance dance ritual. ~*~

I've enjoyed crafting reviews (a lot of them silly) and interacting with other people. I don't visit like I used to as we all get older and distracted with this thing called life. And this one is a REAL Deluxe Edition. why is this one even called 'deluxe edition'? because it's hand numbered? it seems it's not even a gatefold cover. is this something we have to get used to when we want music on vinyl now?

  45. Would be really interesting to hear a sample to get a feel for how this dissonance sounds. And yes I agree it's very difficult to get it to work, at the same time a lot of the Psytrance I like has key changes. It's difficult because of not only the loss of energy in the bassline at certain keys, but also obviously because of the tonal elements of the kick drum. The best advice I found when researching this I think is what Erez Eisen wrote or said in an interview. To put the kick drum tuned to the minor third of the main chord the track would go in. There is a lot of transposing the track and changing the bassnotes, BPM and chord sequence, until somekind of balance is found. A good starting point is to analyze the BPM and keys of tracks on albums which successfully overcame this obstacle. Such as the Infected Mushroom Classical Mushroom album for example. As for the melodies/harmony, my impression is that it is common to either put each melody in its own octave, or if they play counterpoint, to make them play harmoniously first all together in one synth layer within the same octave, (or over several octaves depending on the arpeggiated/melodic style), then split them up into separate layers. This is not the entire solution to complex harmonic compositions, and related issues pertaining to phase, however it's a starting point. If you chose to go the modern Psytrance route, I.E to phase align the kick and bass and working with samples of the bass notes, then I think the whole process will so cumbersome when dealing with key changes. So that I would probably stick to a more monotone non-changing bass key structure. IMO, but that's just me. But yeah all depends on your experience level/listening options/room accoustics and what not.(how the star constellations are aligned, your aura, chakra tuning etc.) Maybe the right type of incense is the most crucial detail? Just kidding. However that should never deter anyone from experimenting I think! Or else no one would ever advance.

  46. Good post! I'd love to see the forums flourish too and was surprised to see the shortage of reviews the past 1-3 years. I've been around - busy like many of you. It's nice to see the forums are alive! I disappeared in 2022 as energy went to other things-- self-care, surgeries. Editing our last short Indie film I directed. Then it's off to bigger things > https://jamesliakos.com And YES, I plan to incorporate GOA in features but I digress. I heard the new Morphic Resonance album (better than the second IMO), Filteria (some super tracks though I'm more captivated/impressed with Jannis' third & fourth album comparably speaking), and Khetzal - Examines (2021) I thought was superb, magical, showcasing some of the most beautiful, satisfying (sound/melody work!) Goa songs I've heard in some time. I just came across Chi-A.D.'s lovely 2020's song "Into the Light" and just opened a thread > General Psytrance. Also felt inspired to re-review Virtual Spirit (1997) after returning to CHI-A.D. lately. The artist uploaded virtually every release to her official YouTube page (attached below) https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCk96OhKUo6M0IXAPe7Da4cQ Sounds like its been a busy last few years for many of us, with energy going to numerous things as we evolve and grow. At times I feel very tuned in to the flow of the conscious process. It's cool to see many of us are still there. PS: It's okay to post shorter reviews. Do whatever inspires you in ways that are positive! Stay safe! Cheers

  49. Ubar Tmar - 永劫回帰 (Eigou Kaiki) Panorama Records 2002 1. Cosmo Drome 8:32 2. Souran-Bushi 5:56 3. Spinol 8:16 4. Monkey Magic 8:30 5. I Feel Love 6:41 6. Free Fall Boogie 8:06 7. Yellow Yoga 9:50 8. Eigou Kaiki 10:46 9. Breath 7:41 This is the 3rd full length album, with the exception of Live, from Ubar Tmar aka Uvantam.com Aka Takeshi Isogai, a genius in psychedelia. Fusion has been hailed as one of the most experimental goa/psy albums released in the old days and for good reasons, it did have a lot of moments that just made you go "what the..", but also did have ton of melodies to set it in the goa scale. The 2nd album was less melody heavy and much, much more experimental. Eigou Kaiki is a departure of the 2nd album's experiments and it's more melody heavy like Fusion was. It consists of some older tracks from 96 as well. I don't know the details how many were newer (i.e. 1999-2002) but the style is very consistent. The album artwork on the other hand is just nonsensically funny and awesome and when translated the backcover says "Grade Recommendation: Aimed at 1st and 2nd Year Psychedelic Elementary School Students". I found it hard to write this review but I did my best, I was sad to see no-one reviewed this masterpiece before. You should find these tracks for preview on youtube. Cosmo Drome I always read this as Cosmo Drone. This track starts of the album with Tibetan chanting and very sparkly metallic synths that reek evil and darkness. Dim bouncing bassline, chants, lovely acid lead up till 2:38 where the the melody explodes into this really evil, twisted atmosphere. 3:56 graces the track with a more uplifting melody that keeps flowing towards a break at 4:52 where the journey starts to float away, metallic acid comes back after you and then at 5:48 the evil melody is again there to suck you in. This is such evil goa atmosphere. This is nothing like Fusion, this is a very serious melodic goa track traveling in the halls of doom. Souran-Bushi Starts soft-mixed, the mood is suddenly much more uplifting. We hear lyrics from a famous traditional Japanese song called, you know it(most probably not), Soran Bushi. I guess this is a tribute/homage to it in psytrance form. Epic synth that leads up to a 1:17 this fun melody that disappears and the bouncing bassline and really cool organic hihats and whatnot take us forward. The sweetest melody comes at 1:52 that is just so uplifting and playful. Track stars to spiral towards the heavens. More uplifting melody work ensues. Keeping you entertained till 3:30 where we get a heavenly break and then 3:39 you couldn't want anything else. PHAT acid lead! It disappears and comes back at 4:41. This is such amazing use of the good old 303 acid. This sound never gets tiring when it's correctly used, especially with such pretty melodies. Brilliant. Spinol Echoing mysterious crystalic atmosphere is greeted, melody floats in smoothly, bassline is flowing. Pretty, soft melody arrives. Experiementing with the echoing background. Clapping arrives, melodies continue to float onwards. 2:32 some darker acid starts floating, sparkly synths for a brief moment. 3:20 just heavenly crystallic melodies. 4:15 break time, melody continues to move. 5:33 some twisted acid invades the space and continues to grow into a soft melodic climax. This is definitely Takeshi showing his serious side, very emotion-filled track with tons of out there atmosphere. Monkey Magic But that can't obviously last too long, monkey magic, the trackname alone indicates this is where the trip starts again. Again soft mixed from last track making the album thus far a nonstop journey. Acid, really pumping real huge goa bassline. SuperB hihats. Acid in the background starts creeping. 2:02 A twisted melody starts that evolves bit by bit. Giving some experiemental moments. 4:07 the track gets to a break, beautiful melody arrives and then some Indian samples. 4:54 dark playful melody which turns into a very India ethnic melody at 5:26. Track climaxes has a little break and then just pure psychedelia power in your ear canal at 6:59. Track rolls of smooth towards.. I Feel Love The track starts with very uplifting, as title would say, a little carnival like melodies, bombs and then we're off 0:52. This is a sweet soft rollercoaster that shows no sign of stopping. 2:05 darker acid takes over, echoing heavenly female voice comes back and takes the pitch lower and then 3:04; Ok, these are sounds straight out of a carnival. Then the track just starts experiementing - Trippy! At 4:04 we get the nicest synth just blasting right on. This is more of the experimental Ubar Tmar. Playful fun uplifting style that also tells some story and has good aural imaginary. Free Fall Boogie Hah that title! What to expect? Japanese wackyness? But of course! Playful sounds, melody and sweet hihats start off and then explode into screaming synths which transforms into a psychedelic melody accompanied by more twisted and sounds. 1:35 those metallic synths from Cosmo Drome are kind of back setting up some atmosphere. A cool acid lead arrives and then gives us small powerful climaxes throughout. 3:20 Here we go again with the evil Japanese psychedelia. Track keeps distorting the reality we are in. Just trippy and evil! Yellow Yoga "without compassion ... present and future ... an ocean of measureless qualities ... karma ... in an ocean of joy" Dark sinister atmospheric intro with woman talking spiritual wisdom that leads up to a synth explosion at 0:56. Epic synths, pumping bassline, quirky hihats. Constant beeping melody in the background, some cartoon-like sounds. Acid melody at 1:46 and it just keeps on giving, turning, twisting the soundscape. Lots of psychedelic layers and crazy epic darkly twisted moments and it even turns into hardcore mode at the end where the tempo keeps upping by the second. Awesome uptempo piece with several injections of grade-A psychedelia. Eigou Kaiki Well here's an epic. Just listen to that 2001: A space Odyssey opening music (Richard Strauss - Also Sprach Zarathustra). Dirty guitar right after that as if you were listening some 80's punk rock. Electronic sweeping keeps increasing - break - and then some shouting. It's as if this were no longer goatrance! Guitar is back, big drums, some crowd cheer samples. The track goes through several different type of psychedelic segments, some harsh and fast and some laid back and hypnotic. After each one of them, the track comes back to the guitar and shouting and the general main melody with those metallic hits as heard before. Simply put I find this track utterly WACK in the good sense. It does something I have not heard before and probably many of you have not either. Super experiemental, crazy, blasting and fun. I can see people saying this track is cheesy but I would disagree. Psychedelic masterpiece of sorts more-so - well, actually, this is more of a modernized (soundwise) remix of a psychedelic masterpiece, Eternal Return, found on the debut album of Ubar Tmar. The layout is the same but the segments differ, but fact is, there is no other track like it. Breath. A chillax ender? Hell yeah! Ultra floating morning sunshine atmosphere from the get-go. Bouncing hard but smoothly textured bassline. Echoing sounds fill the smooth space-scape. The pitch of the melody goes up and down and has some changes throughout and it sounds quite hypnotic, even addicting. This is absolutely a wonderful downtempo piece. Heavenly morning atmosphere. Superb ender and makes this whole journey feel so magnificent. So Ubar Tmar actually became serious for a change and made a damn fine journey for us all to witness. The style is Takeshi Isogai, no doubt, but this is the most serious work he's made. There's no random breaks, glitches, sounds. It's all coherent. There are journey albums that are obvious, like for example Dimension 5 - Transdimensional, then there are those that feel like several tracks put together on album form, but the flow is lacking. But there are also albums that have tracks that differ quite a bit from each others, but manage to come together as one big piece and this album is one of those. Amazing journey through the mind of a japanese psychedelic genius. If you really look into these tracks you can find stories in each one of them. IMHO this is an essential in psychedelic trance collections, just like 1997 Ubar Tmar - Fusion and 2005 Uvantam.com - Guri & Guru. If you haven't heard it and you're a fan of goatrance then I definitely advice you to check it out in one way or another. One of my favourite journey albums.
