Opportunity to revolutionize the psytrance scene!

So I was just watching a show on new sites that allow fans to directly finance artists' albums. The concept is pretty simple: an artist puts some samples online, the fan scrolls through different samples of different artists and decides which ones he like and gives a small donation (can be as low as 5€) so that the artist can finish their album. If the total amount to make the album is reached, then the artist goes on and makes the album, releases it and in the fan-investor gets a bit of the share. If the total is not reached then the project is abandoned, no new album and donnators get their money back.

Now I was thinking, why not use the concept and make a site 100% dedicated to psytrance? IMO this could be HUGE... What do you guys think?

in case you're not familiar with the concept, here are some example sites:

www.sellaband.com

http://www.slicethepie.com/ (here you actually get paid to review new artists before reaching "critical mass" and seek a record deal)

could you please give me some suggestions? I have been listening to hallucinogen, younger brother,
and shpongle for ages, I am hoping someone could give me some suggestions for similiar(better? new?) tracks that are just as complicated and complex if not more so... I can't go back to simple stuff and I don't have time to try to sift through miriad of choices out there to find those little needles in the haystack... those masterpieces like the ones I listen to now... help please...
Which artists will be on your festival, what name you gonna give to your festival and how much will ticket cost? I decided to go with 20 artists on both stages. Let's say that festival lasts one day, so we don't have to post 60 artists, 20 is enough

East Europe: the epicenter of neogoa trance

I was taking a look at the authors of more than 20 neogoa tracks I listen more, and geographically more than 3/4 are from Eastern Europe. Any explanation for that? I think it is interesting, for the first wave of goa and psy, we hardly had any artist from, say, Croatia or Romania. Now we have even a very good compilation from a certain country.

GREAT trance podcasts

So I think my quest to find a psytrance podcast that is regularly updated and explores enough sub-styles (old and new) to keep me interested and has detailed playlist (nothing more frustrating then listening to a killer track and not knowing what it was IMO) has finally ended. Here is what I think is THE best psytrance podcast series out there:

http://trancendance.net/

unlike most podcasts, instead of insisting on only one sub-genre all the time (when it's not outright shameless label self-promotion) this one has an inceredibly vast range, going from early 90s classic trance to modern full-on and even cross-blend dubstep and electro-house tracks. I find it's a great way of keeping in touch with the scene, just dload the latest podcast, put it in your mp3 player and off you go

What do you guys think? Anything else worth considering here?

First we have this

Then this

And then we must dig a little deeper to come across this mix (there was another with a couple M-run unreleased tracks but that mix is not available anymore, was called DJ Stevo the new school experience)
if anyone (especially you newies to this site) are wishing to buy spacific old or obscure releases and wish to know more about them.
maybe whether they are genuine (their are alot of bootlegs being sold as genuine out there)
or just wish to know about sound quality (lossless as mp3 never reflects the true qualities)
or just general comments of is it still worth the money and "obscure true great status"
or who are the best and genuine sellers out there.
there are many on this site who either have it, have heard it, or owned it (in my case owned most but sold alot but at least still have lossless back up on almost all)

not sure what everyone else thinks of this topic, but i always there to help out if its needed

As some may have noticed i been more active lately than usual, i think the elanra ioniser i bought this year is helping (ionized now that name rings a bell!)
I know there are other topics similar but wanted to coincide it with where everyone in this community is at with well being and Consciousness.
This has been a huge year for me in many ways as vibration changes are happening all around for me here in a
Australia.
balance has really taken hold, and am loving all the great new goa being released, and its been inspiring me (along with a few other topics floating around at the moment) to delve into my old collection and dust of some of those gems from yesteryear.
am feeling very happy and content within myself yet there is so much madness going on around the planet.
seems like definatley building up to something.
loving 2012 physically, spiritually and musically, seems others not so content with the releases this year, as i have been with some previous years, but what has changed?
for me i think it's just the way i am seeing, feeling and hearing things now (when in mind, and consciousness)
and psytrance is and has been for almost 20 years now still having a huge inpact on my life. has brought me to this forum (10 years now, as was a stalker for the first 2!) and introduced me to some amazing inspirational people talking about the music i loved and all the different facets involved with this music, artists and fans coming together, recommending me other styles and artists which has taken me in so many new directions, not just with music but life also
financial hardship i was facing and had to do the unspeakable and let go of A LOT! of the classic, timeless and rare releases to help me get through that period and alot of you supported me there (along with getting your mits on my rare stuff ) so i guess this topic is a kind of thankyou to you all for helping me on my journey, and still loving every minute of it!
thank you
so..............
how is 2012 going for you?

This track just blew me away. It is the perfect definition of the word "trance". I forgot I had it on my playlist and was listening randomly to some tracks yesterday on my sound system. When it started it blew me away immediately. I need more energetic, powerful tracks like Nova Fractal's "Perception". IMO, best neogoa track ever.

Beyond Subculture and Postsubculture? The Case of Virtual Psytrance (Journal of Youth Studies)

Was anyone aware of this study? It's already quite old right now though. (2006)
It handles (on a scientific, sociological level) about the psytrance community on the internet. Quite interesting (though I didn't read it all yet), but don't expect it'll be an easy read hehe. Psynews was used as a source by the way.

Source: http://www.tandfonli...676260600914390
PDF: http://www.tandfonli...676260600914390

Second half of the introduction:

"This particular group was
chosen as research subjects as in many ways they appeared to epitomise a
‘postmodern subculture’*a seemingly contradictory turn of phrase, but highly
relevant to the debates about subculture and post-subculture. In other words, virtual
psytrancers are a global, Internet-based grouping (hence seemingly postmodern), yet
whom also share temporary physical spaces (i.e., attend psytrance events in one or
more countries), and who are characterised by a strong attachment to a particular
form of music, and a common set of values, practices and belief systems (i.e., aspects
of what we think of as subculture).
A total of 569 virtual psytrancers from over 40 countries were involved in a unique
[2] large-scale, Internet-based, online-questionnaire-based survey, which assessed the
shared attitudes, global spaces and international connections of the group. Firstly, we
provide some background and explain what virtual psytrance is, before moving on to
contextualise the study within the wider debate about subculture and postsubculture.
We then turn to a discussion and rationale of the research methodology
utilised. Finally, we present a range of data from the online questionnaire (including
both quantitative data and data from more ‘interpretive’ open-ended questions),covering aspects relevant to the subculture/post-subculture debate, such as psytrancers’
sense of community and solidarity, belief systems (spirituality and religious
beliefs), adherence to their chosen musical form and patterns of drug-use in relation
to the culture. We also examine both their use of the Internet and their attendance at
psytrance events (both inside and outside their own countries), to maintain and
cement their dedication to this culture. Overall, the findings presented here reject a
simple theoretical dichotomy, and challenge the notion that tightly bounded
subcultures must be primarily local (rather than being global/virtual), and singularly
class specific, as well as refuting postmodern conceptions that global youth styles are,
by definition, depthless, transitory and internally fragmented."

Need some help/opinions about old school artists

I was watching some videos on youtube about This Is Psytrance, This is Goa Trance etc. and after reading the comments I was amazed about how many people are new in the scene and want to learn more about psytrance. Most of the questions of course were about difference between Goa and Psy, what's Full On, what is Forest etc.
So just for fun I decided to upload some videos myself to explore all the psytrance field.

The idea is to create a video for each subgenre with multiple tracks (fading in/out), possibly write soke comments as well.

Since Goa is a huge field I'm thinking to create more than one vids. Perhaps one for Goa, one for darker Goa or one for neogoa. I don't consider dark Goa or neogoa as different subgenres than ''regular'' Goa, but I think it's interesting for a new listener to hear the differencies.

I also want to have a video about old school psytrance (pre 2000 period). And here's the deal.

There are some artists that over the years we have disagreed if they are goa or old school psy. So I want to have your opinion about them.

Koxbox (pre Great Unknown period)
UX
Slide (Unstable and before)
Syb Unity Nettwerk
Hallucinogen (Twisted album)
X-Dream (pre Radio period)
Psychaos
Sandman
BOTFB (Twin Sharkfins album)
Juno Reactor (oldschool period)
Orichalcum & The Deviant
Quirk (Ping style tracks)
Synchro (1998 and before)
ManMadeMan
GMS (Growly Family & Chaos Laboratory)
Pigs In Space
Tim Schuldt (Single collection album)
Nervasystem

Thanks in advance

Do you agree we have four different Goa styles?

I showed the recent Omega Point to a friend who is not a fan of Goa, and he pointed something I had to agree: Siam and PharaOm tracks sound different from the rest. I asked him why he thought that, his opinion was that they sounded faster, louder, while the rest of album was more frenzy or soft in his opinion.
Me too, since listening to the album for the first time, liked the two tracks best. Not that the rest of the album is not great. It is. But to a different crowd under the same umbrella - as observed in the review of the album. But the second half of the album is a little "pure goa" or nitz, where we can hear very different kicks, basslines and melodies from the mentioned two.
What I want to point is that I think goa now is branched out in different styles: classic Goa, Neogoa, nitz, and the sort of goa that Siam and PharaOm wrote.

Does it matter? Apparently not. But it would help a lot people like me, I waste a lot of time searching for "goa" and end up with nitz or classic goa - styles that I appreciate, but that won't be played in my next party. Mind you, I want tracks that sound more agressive, while being Goa all along. It would help a lot if we came up with different names for different styles of Goa. My vote, if you agree, is to call it Full Goa. Which describes tracks like Siam's (most of his whole work), PharaOm in the Omega Point album, and looking back in some CDs, as far as Sheyba's famous Ganesh track. To mention some.
What do you think?

So I searched "psyprog" and found a 30 album pack of progressive psy. Every album was one of my favourites ! I put those albums (and others) into iTunes under psyprog, and its still the only folder i listen too. I love my"psyprog" only deserving albums go in that folder. 3 years ago tho hardly anyone was using it, Im seeing it around a lot more now tho. Anyone else like it ?
