Ever overstepped the mark at work?

Sometimes, being a freelancer I work in places and have to put up with a lot of shit, some shit jobs, some stupid people sometimes. Thing is, it's best for me to just keep my mouth shut, else I won't be there again in an instant.

 

Today however I reacted a bit abruptly at a senior art director, after working two long late nights in a row.

 

Now, I'm not sure if professionally, I should apologise tomorrow or not. What I said wasnt wrong, it just came out wrong in frustration.

 

Ever done something similar? What is best course of action in keeping employment? Hah..

I guess you could just say you're sorry it came it out wrong, and maybe explain that the reason for this was that you were (maybe righfully?) frustrated. It's always hard to contemplate hypothetical situations, where no details are known...

 

Or, you know, it might actually be better to turn it around, around the lines of: "I think I was rightfully (/understandably?) frustrated, but I am still honestly sorry."

Just be honest. Maybe tell him "hey mate, I'm sorry about the way I spoke to you the other night. I was feeling really tired & frustrated, it came out incorrectly and while what I meant the message I conveyed I didn't mean to say it that way. I understand if you're upset at me but I hope we can keep this professional and deal with it in an appropriate manner".

 

Something like that. Whatever you do don't lie cause that pisses off ppl even more & don't make it just about keeping the job as that comes across as insincere. Good luck.

I have blasted the Project Management office like nobodys business. It was a woman and left the entire office gaping. Eventually everybody supported me becuase they all knew this woman did not know how to interact professionally. Fight fire with fire even if it means doing it at work but on the other if it was completely out of line. which it seems like , as in something that didnt warrant you reacting in that manner , i suppose nothing makes thing normal again like a prompt apology.

 

Ever watch "The wire" ? I wish all offices were like that .

I'm the boss and employ 15 people. I often overstep the mark.

I got fired as a store person at an electrical goods storei a few years back. I was taking a 70" tv to a customers car. My back was sore as it was late afternoon after a 6am start (the person for second shift hadn't turned up) & I was having trouble lifting the tv in to his car. He refused to help & said "come on! What are you? A weak homo? Out some muscle in to it!" And laughed with his idiot mate. I walked off after saying "I might be a weak homo but at least I'm not a dumb c#nt like you!".

 

I managed to get a fair pay out for unfair dismissal as well as they had to cover 1 year of all costs relating to my back damage I'd sustained. I also reported them to the government for illegal work practices and they got a fine of a few hundred thousand sometimes it worth doing.

I have colleague at work whos overly nosy about things that are not related to his duties and hes trying hard to push onto others to get into better position at work and trying to push others to the sides to take their places and duties.

Imagine all the negative-hitlerisque stereotypes about jews you know and apply to him(hes jewish btw).

Go figure, but he is annoying and nobody likes him here .

 

Anyway, I told him to shut the fuck up and stop asking dumb questions the other day at work, looks like everyone else is also fed up with his bullshit, even our supervisor was pissed at him.

 

He was being bossy and tried to jump at me so I decided that its time someone stops this wanker from jerking around and doing so I was loud and aggressive in my vocabulary(just what that wanker didnt expect to receive), slightly rude but no swear-words were used !

 

 

 

Oh and Ormion mentioned customers - yeah, them too get once in a while a little bit of their own attitude, if someone is overly annoying during conversation then I simply respond with being exactly the mirror of their annoying behaviour and that is priceless to hear their reaction.

 

My favourite is this - a person starts to question my answers with things like "What if... what if this happens... What if that and that turns out to be this and that..." when Ive listened to plenty of whatiffs as response to my professional answers then I simply respond like this:

"What if a huge asteroid crashes our city as we speak and we all get killed by it, what then?!"

Their reaction usually is: "OH, so thats how you conduct your business?!" To that I say "Well, your asking unreal and silly questions, get over it and accept my answers and stop questioning every thing out there!"

And then our conversation is finally over ;D!

Luckily what I do for now is related to the construction of houses so I don't usually overstep it at work. Just do what I need to and listen to some trance or whatever else. Luckily I don't have annoying co-workers or anything like that. The worse I've endured is some bad jokes from co-workers but that's it.
